Hello I'm on the princess sapphire in Feb.

I am in the UK now and have booked most trips privately on the internet with your guides.

I plan on 're confirming all the arrangements just before I leave Heathrow in the Uk.

I don't want to pay for cruise ship internet and I'm not that technical.

In Europe I just turn off my roaming and hook onto free wifi in cafes etc.

Is this possible in the ports please ?

Singapore

Bali

Penang

Kula Lumpar

Phuket

Leam chambang ( for bangkok)

Kho samui

Phu My Vietnam

Any suggestions would be very welcome 😁

Penang has free wifi in port when docked. Found out inadvertently when we saw staff on their phones speaking to loved ones via messenger.

We then phoned our family [emoji4]

Depending on your embarkation city/port - you might wish to get a "local" prepaid data sim card to cover your duration of stay/cruise, covering the Asia regions - those prepaid/refillable sim card with cellular data often include access to their own partnered network of Wifi hotspots, rates are a lot cheaper than ship's satellite connection.

If you have WiFi calling on your device, you can use it to make free or inexpensive calls back home - depending on your home plan, or, do VoIP calls like Skype or its equivalent (Google Hangouts/Voice for us, FaceTime or Facebook Messenger for others, etc.) Keep in mind that the typical WiFi hotspot has a limited range of 75 to 100 meters, 150 to 250 ft. in ideal situations - with nodes that limit x number of users to be connected at a given time while resulting in sluggish response & throttling down everyone.

Phy My, VN is probably one place that I won't count on any free access to data, whether it's WiFi or cellular, without getting access to the local ISP. Last time we're in HCMC on an escorted land-tour, we got an inexpensive Vinafone prepaid Sim card for a few USD ... data was relatively expensive but it was good enough to make IDD calls back to the USA.

SINgarpore Int'l A/P (@Changi) has free WiFi (3 hours or 24 hours access) for travelers. Throughout this urban city, you should be able to find a reasonable # of WiFi hotspots. The Cruise Terminal has free WiFi access for passengers -

Keep in mind, you will need to be off the ship and at least inside the cruise terminal, if not outside - during your port stops to track down these "free" hotspots ... enough reasons for us to have other options.

Lindyloo.

From experience I know that the best way to find free wifi in any port of call is;

Ask the crew, or follow the crew.

They will have already docked in these ports of call, and will be experienced in knowing how to get in touch with their loved ones back home.

Regards

Phil
