NYE Cruise

Recommended Posts

Can't pull up the Explorer article, but in our experience of several NYE cruises, we find there are many "packages" that included beverages, snacks and reserved seating. Many of the seating areas are reserved for those who pay for packages. Most "open" seating will be filled by someone by 8PM. Unless there has been a change, a complimentary glass of champagne was offered close to midnight.

We missed last NYE but have sailed NYE for several years in a row prior to last year. We never bothered about seating as we wondered around the ship from about 10 till after midnight to catch the different types of parties.

Yes, prices are generally higher but somehow we lucked into pricing that made our NYE week just a bit more than a regular Oasis sailing. We planned to sail Jan 7 2018 and Jan 14 but this great NYE price was just $ 200 pp more (Ocean Balcony) - than Jan 14. We dropped the Jan 14 and picked up the NYE and kept Jan 7 for our B2B . We booked in June when the non refundable had not come into effect yet. Our price monitoring site alerted us of the category drop. Drop lasted one day.

NYE is very festive. We find the passengers to be the friendliest as everyone wants to have a good time. If you are into college football, it is fun to watch a game on the big screen by the pool or with groups in lounges. Lots of games that week.

NYE is generally a formal night regardless of when the day falls in the week. It also is the dressiest of cruises.

We enjoy it and are happy to be sailing this year.

We are also sailing the same two weeks as you are on the Oasis. New Years is the best time to sail. No worries about drinking and driving. We just have to make it back to our cabin. As a fyi, since you board on the 31st, that is the first formal night. Last year we ended up carrying our formal wear on board in case our luggage didn't get there before dinner. We won't be doing that again. Got our luggage in plenty of time.

I wondered if they will make first night formal.

Thx

Did the Anthem NYE cruise a few years ago. There were signs on tables in most venues regarding "limited" champagne table packages. Essentially they were limited to how many they could sell. We walked into a few venues and were told feel free to sit anywhere there weren't reserved signs. There were reserved signs everywhere.

Don't remember the package prices, but they were not cheap and we felt this was gouging passengers who already paid double to sail this cruise. We have done other cruise lines at NYE and haven't seen this tactic.

Needless to say we were not happy at won't do another Royal cruise over NYE. Have seen other postings that this is standard practice on all Royal ships over NYE.

That is great!! Also looking forward to meeting you. This will be our first time being on Oasis for 3 consecutive weeks. Hopefully, I can handle it!

Yes, the first day is formal night for New Years. I wish the cruise would start on the 30th instead. On a positive note, once New Years is over there is still almost a week left to that cruise.
