Baoshan Wusongkou Cruise Terminal Taxi Question

Our cruise will end in Shanghai and we'll dock at the Baoshan Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal. Please notice this is NOT the Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal, close to downtown Shanghai.

1. Do you know what is the taxi availability at the cruise terminal? Is it usually easy to get a taxi, or are there usually long lines waiting for taxi cars?

2. Based on my research, the cost of the taxi from Wusongkou Cruise Terminal to downtown Shanghai is approximately CNY100. Based on your experience, is this correct?

Thanks in advance for any information!

Thom

When we disembarked there two years ago there were lots of taxis and there were bilingual workers there to tell the drivers where you wanted to go.

However do not trust that they get it correct. Luckily we had been in Shanghai overnight, knew a few landmarks and recognized our taxi driver was not going where we wanted. We had the address of where we were going in Chinese script and once we showed it to him, he quickly changed course.

So, there should be taxis. Have the address you want written in Chinese and make sure they have the meter turned on.

Thanks for the info, MaryAnn!

I wonder if anyone would have recent info on how much the cab ride costs.

Thom

Thom -

We are boarding when you get off - our hotel quoted around $16US for the cab ride to the cruise terminal from the area near The Bund, so that jives with 100CNY.

Hello Joe!

It is very unfortunate that we'll not be on the same cruise this year. Wish you a fantastic voyage. Cheers,

We too will be staying in the Bund area (Hyatt on the Bund) and will need transportation to the Wusongkou Cruise Terminal. Can anyone verify that the taxi cost was about $16 ? Also, I have read that taxis are not allowed right in the port area and that they will drop you off at the gate. How long a walk is it from the gate to the cruise terminal? Pulling luggage, is it a well paved walkway or over rough surfaces?

Mapped distance between the new mega-ship cruise terminal and PVG's city center a/k/a the Bund area is about 25 to 30 km or 15 miles ... trip time is about 45 minutes depending on traffic via the major multi-lanes highways. Fares is about 100 RMB (about $16 USD) - keep in mind that unless it's a taxivan, they are smaller & is good for 2 to 3 riders with "reasonable" luggage, pack & travel light.

Keep in mind that metro Shanghai has a population of 25 to 30 million people and there are tons of vehicles of all kind on the road ... transfer by rails, motorcoach (buses) & subways aren't the easiest, although signage at major stations are bilingual in English. Only some of the educated & younger generation speak a foreign language, so asking for directions & help can be major challenge - plan ahead & use an offline translator App would be useful. Have the destination, name & address prepared ahead in simplified Chinese to show to the driver.

Yes, taxis are available as soon as you exit the building at the terminal. There are different coloured taxis which indicate what districts the taxis can operate. I'd ask someone who works there which taxis go to the airport. Don't expect your taxi driver to understand english.

We just got back from Shanghai. There are signs directing you to the taxis, we had a 5 minute wait. Our taxi was 117 yuan (RMB) or about $19 to Nanjing East. Traffic was very heavy.

We had hotel name printed in Chinese.

One comment about the importance of making sure they use the meter, we needed a taxi to the train station from our hotel and had to ask 3 different taxis before one was willing to use his meter. They asked for 100 yuan, the meter was 13 yuan when we got to the station.
