We will be calling at the following ports and our traveling companions want to make them DYI ports (they are too cheap to pay for ship excursions): Miyazaki, Sakaimoto & Akita.

I have not been able to find out very much information about these ports. Has anyone been? I would appreciate any info on ship shuttles, taxi service, etc.

Thank you for your help.

If you spell it right (it's Sakaiminato) and do a search here (use posts not threads) you'll get some information.

Miyazaki is more difficult. Start here: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e8000.html

Takachiho is good (location of the Japanese foundation myth) but not easy to get to without a tour or a car http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e8050.html

Check the Miyazaki guide at the JNTO pdf archive: http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng/pdf/travelguide.html

There are (fake but good) Easter Island Moai at Sun-Messe, and more local info here:
