Jan 2 2018 crusie along east coast of Australia - Need advice

Recommended Posts

Hello

I am thinking about this cruise:

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

NEWCASTLE, AUSTRALIA

AIRLIE BEACH, QLD, AUSTRALIA

CAIRNS(YORKEY'S KNOB),AUSTRLCAIRNS(YORKEY'S KNOB),AUSTRL

PORT DOUGLAS, AUSTRALIA

WILLIS ISLAND(CRUISING),

BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

Knowing that is the rainy season in Australia has anyone done a similar cruise? What kind of weather did you encounter? DOes rain last for more than a few hours?

Thanks.

It is the "wet" season in Queensland. It will certainly be hot and very humid, when it's not raining! It is not the time of year I would travel north, but of course you may have fine clear weather too and then it would be hotter.

Sea are pretty smooth over summer.. as above it could be hot. i'm talking 38" (100F"). Plenty of fluids. You might get some classic Aussie afternoon thunder storm. Hot day & then a very violent(&colourful) Thunder/Lightning storm.. Enjoy your-self MATE..

It would normally be hot and up in North Queensland it will be humid as well. Up there if it rains, it will make it feel better until it stops raining, when it will become steamy again.

It will only be humid when on land, while at sea, you don't really notice it, so depending on what you are doing on port days, be aware of this.

Cruise is in the middle of the Cyclone Season. If there is a cyclone or a low, it can torrential rain/flood for days. If there is no cyclone, you are in luck, just sunny hot and humid with occasional afternoon thunder storms.

It's the rainy season north of Mackay (Airlie Beach), further south it's just summer.

In summer it's not really that much hotter up north than it is down south. But it is much more humid and doesn't cool down overnight as much.

When it rains, it really rains but most often in the afternoons. The mornings (not always) can be fresh and sunny at least until lunch time. So if you are planning excursions I'd go for the early one.

As for cyclones, to have one hit you, you would have to be unlucky. One of the strange things about cyclones is that the days immediately after one passes through can be quite nice. Of course that doesn't help if you are on land. If a cyclone occurs the Captain will avoid it, even if it means missing ports.

All in all, don't worry about the weather, just have a fun holiday even if it rains.
