Galveston Hotel on the Beach Extended stay?

We would like to spend three or four days visiting the Galveston beach area. Can someone recommend a hotel that would be on the beach and within walking distance to restaurants and shops. We are not cruising, so we are not concerned about proximity to the cruise port. We will be in the area sometime mid October. Thank you for your help.

There is a brand new Homewood Suites by Hilton in Galveston, Maybe 4 months old now. We stayed there about a month ago. All rooms have a full kitchen, so you can cook if you want, frig has an icemaker. It is right across the street from Stewart Beach. Free breakfast and Monday-Thursday free happy hour in the evening. Beer and wine along with light food, Hot dogs or slider type food. There are a few restaurants within walking distance. They have a free shuttle that will take you where you want within 5 miles. Nice outside pool for kids, not so good for adults, it is shallow.

We are staying there in December the night before our cruise. It appears to be fairly close to the terminal and I wanted to see if the hotel can shuttle you to the port or if you walked.

They do have a shuttle that will take you anywhere within 5 miles, cruise terminal is about 2 miles. I don't think they have cruise parking there, parking is pretty limited. It would surprise me if they do?
