Slot pull and those little details..

Hello from Indiana, everyone!

On my upcoming cruise (September 25th, Dream ) we are doing a slot pull. We have quite a few people doing it but some questions popped up.

Whose card gets inserted? Is there a way to get a "slot pull" card so no one is getting everyone's points? And what if there is a win? How would you handle that and the tax issues?

Thanks for any help!

No "slot pull" card I know of?

You can have a drawing, or decide ahead of time whose card is to be used. Sometimes we used the organizer's card, and sometimes we just picked at random. Unless you win big, then it matters a bit. Just get the card holder to buy a couple rounds of drinks!:)

And what if there is a win? How would you handle that and the tax issues?

I have not had the pleasure of a "Big Win!" But when we won $750 between 10 of us, nobody from the casino asked us about taxes?

Thanks for any help!

I will be doing my 3 slot pull on my next cruise and am wondering why Wheel of fortune is the preferred machine used i have yet to win and thinking of pulling out, sure it is a lot of fun but there are a number of other machines that can be used.

I was on the Dream last September and we had a slot pull. The original organizer is the card we used. Everyone else brought cash, ours was 15 dollars for 3 pulls on the wheel of fortune machine. Hope this helps.

Our group, on several cruises, decided, that the $3 WOF machine was the most accommodating for a large group. Plenty of room around it, most of the time.

We have tried other machines, but always migrate back to the WOF machine?:D

I am of the opinion that the organizer gets to insert the card... after all they are doing the work, collecting names, cashing in and distributing the money and taking the responsibility of taxes should u win big... I organize several and the wheel of fortune is universally recognized and liked. I tell the casino host and they will usually give u t-shirts/hats which I give to the highest "spinners".

I coordinated a slot pull a while back and stipulated (as part of coordinating), that my card would be inserted in the machine (I downloaded the total amount from my S&S card and kept everyone's cash), and that if won big (big enough to be a tax concern), that I would keep 30% of the winnings and would evenly distribute the remaining 70%... I also told everyone to meet me at the casino cage to "register" (I was holding up a sign that said "Welcome to the Slot Pull" so that everyone could find me easily). Needless to say, we didn't win big, but we had a lot of fun. I contacted the casino hostess on the first day of our cruise to explain to her that I was bringing a group of 30 people to her casino for a slot pull. She made available several door prizes (towels, hats, robes), which we raffled off at the end after distributing the winnings. The cashiers split our winnings up into equal piles and I handed them out, checking off names as people took their portions. We gave any remaining "change" to the person who generated the biggest win.

I just don't get why some people get their nose bent because of the points. If you have 30 people (nice size group) and everyone pays $20 that is only $600. Each point on a slot machine is $2.50. So the organizer gets 240 points. You need 1500 points for a DOU card on a 7 day cruise. Not many points for running the slot pull.

Most of the pulls I have played the organizer uses their card and 25% is withheld if taxes come into play. Even if you are not in that 28% tax bracket a sizable win could shift you up in levels and you would end up paying at a different rate.

Agree on all points! It's just easier to put one card in and keep it there... And, if you are taking the time and effort to coordinate, it should be your card (as long as you have the taxes covered).:)

you have got to be kidding

I didn't take anything wrong out of that. Sounds like they are just taking the amount they would have to pay for taxes. Carnival is going to 1099 the person whose card it is on so what would the better option be? Split it evenly and the organizer pays more than they received?

Seems reasonable. The person posted that if it was enough for tax liability that they would do that. Marginal tax rate of 25% federal plus your state income taxes could exceed 30% in some cases.

Unless you're volunteering to pay the taxes for someone else?

LOL!
