I have a free cruise on Carnival thru Tropicana casino, im looking to upgrade to a balcony room. Was wondering if you were to book with a travel agent do you get any more perks , such as onboard credits or a lower rate from booking it thru a travel agent??

The answer is no. I don't know the specifics of the cruise certificate you got but the programs all work the same. I'd be surprised if you could use your own TA. These promotions are booked through the cruise line's own casino department. You cannot get any additional tax benefits. Of course you will get any loyalty benefits if you have status with Carnival. Some of the other cruise lines, NCL for example, still allow up to take advantage of those 'free perks' promotions they have based on the cabin type you choose. But Carnival doesn't have that type of promotion running. You should also know that your can pay to upgrade to any other type of cabin category other than what's listed on your free cruise certificate.

Hello. My mom received this promotion from the Tropicana in Laughlin for a free cruise. When she called to claim her cruise she had to go through the number given to her on the certificate. She could not book it with our PVP had to be with that specific department. So I'm doubtful you'd be able to book with a travel agent. Not 100% sure but with her only being able to book by calling the number they gave her I'd doubt there would be any other way.

She was able to upgrade to a balcony for the additional upgrade fee. You still have to pay taxes, port charges, and gratuities.

Happy cruising!

Some additional information. I am VERY FAMILIAR with these cruise line casino programs ; my husband is a regular gambler on land based and cruise line casino sites. In fact this year we will be on 10 cruises with various cruises lines and they ARE All complementary casino cruises, either from the cruise lines directly or via land based casino promotions! In our opinion, Carnival has BY FAR the best cruise line casino program. Princess is the worst. Celebrity JUST Revamped their program, looks pretty good. NCL's program is tough to accumulate points, and their 'comped' cruises contain additional administrative fees that no other cruise line adds on.

Have fun and once your finish that cruise, depending on how much you gamble, you will be invited directly by Carnival to comped casino cruises. They actually have a tiered comped cruises, meaning that for higher level players you are invited to special comped cruises that actually GIVE YOU CASH in addition to a free cruise!

I usually only cruise via Casino Comp. Inside cabin $0, Window $100, Balcony $2-300 or Suite Up to $600 pp. I am going in December for 7 nights and decided to upgrade to one of the suites with Extended Balcony since it will be myself with 2 of my adult children.

I would agree that Carnival has the best Casino perks out there. Please be sure you always use your card so just like land Casinos they can track your play.

Have fun!
