Suggestion on what to do in Icy Strait Point for the day??

We are going to Icy Strait Point, We have never been there before.

I was wondering what is their not to miss in Icy Strait Point?? and what would you recommend doing here for the day for a first time visitor?

Any ideas / suggestions are very welcome :D

We loved the In Alaska's Wildest Kitchen excursion. We gained new recipes, learned a lot and got to try some awesome food.

ISP was one of our favorite ports. Real Alaska without much commercialism.

We did a whale watching tour with Glacier Wind and loved it. Small boats with 6 passengers per boat, so book early.

We also had time to tour the refurbished cannery and walk the trails near the pier.

Many people like the Zipline. It looks fun, but fairly expensive and time consuming to get to the top for a ride that lasts a minute or less.

The offered Amsterdam shore excursion that included the Tribal Dance and rain forest tour was what I booked. I enjoyed it. After the tour, walking through the former Salmon Cannery Museum and the shops was also a good experience and informative, as to the Cannery. I returned to the ship by a walk along the water. It was raining at that time and I got back to my stateroom thoroughly soaked. But, I enjoyed it.

During the tour, I even saw Salmon jumping as they were going upstream.

Icy Point Strait surprised me as a cruise port. It was "more" than "less".

We did a whale watching tour through Hoonah Travel Adventures - only 16 people onboard the very comfortable boat. I would highly recommend them. It was one of our favorite days. The whales were magnificent!

We also did an independent whale watching tour (Icy Strait Whale Adventure) for a half day, then hiked the trails, walked to town and hung out in the port area.

I thought it was a great day - relaxing and low key.

So now the next question would be the costs of the tours you took would be helpful for budget purpose. Thanks

Whale watching through the cruise line (Celebrity) was $180 each -- the independent operators charge about $150 each. Neither option is budget friendly, but seeing the whales up close is a priceless experience! :cool:

Glacier Wind Charters is up to $160 for 2018. It's a 3.5 hour tour that meets in Hoonah. We booked it because the maximum on a boat is six people and there are four of us. We booked it because we like family run businesses and personal attention and size of the tours.

We just returned from a Celebrity Alaska cruise. We had a private tour with Glacier Wind Tours and it was outstanding. Check out their reviews on TripAdvisor. You will not be disappointed. Maximum on the boat is six people and it has a bathroom that is immaculate! I wish we had taken more private tours on our cruise versus ship tours. Some of the Celebrity ship tours were definitely lacking quality and were not worth the price.

We were in ISP last month and also went with Glacier Wind. As others have said, it was outstanding! We saw lots of whales, which was very exciting. But the personal treatment from Shawn and Teresa was what put the excursion over the top.

Our Glacier Wind whale watching was first thing in the morning. After that, we walked around the town and then spent time at the dock (watching ziplining, walking in the forest, browsing the shop) before boarding the ship. Loved our time at ISP!

Another vote for whale watching through Glacier Wind. Teresa And Shawn are wonderful and whilst not a huge price difference with ship excursion, the personal attention and maximum 6 guests in addition to Captain Shawn or Captain Casey (their son) it's a definite must in my book. They are already taking reservations for next year and are getting booked up.

Visit the Icy Strait Brewing Company in town. They have a nice selection of craft beer. And if the food truck is open while you're there, don't miss the Pad Thai!

We were just in Icy Strait in August and loved it! A lot of people go whale watching, but we decided to do a Self Guided Arctic Cat tour through Hoonah Travel Adventures. We took at the ATV through the logging roads, where we saw bears! After that, we had lunch at the Fisherman's Daughter, went to Icy Strait Brewing and then headed back to the area where the cruise ship docks to shop and see the museums.
