Swimming end of August

We're going back to Alaska the last week of August and I'm wondering if it will be too cold to swim. Looks like temps are usually around 63-64.

Are you talking about in the ship's pool? If so, as commonly discussed here, many ships, but far from all, have at least one covered pool. So swimming is a definitely a possibility.

Thanks. I'm really wondering about outside since there will be slides and a water park.

Only the hardiest people are in the water outside in late August - I'm not one of them!

While it may be in the low to mid 60's, that 10-20 knot cruising speed will make it unenjoyable. At 64 degrees with 15 mph winds, it'll feel like 54 degrees. Once you get wet - you'll be joining the Polar Bear Club

My experience is that you never know what to expect on the weather.

Remember when you look at averages that's all they are.

Better to also look at historic highs and lows.

You might be able to swim but if it is windy and cold and rainy that days(s) it might not work.

I have seen people on all of my Alaskan cruises swimming. Especially the covered pools.

It was pretty warm when the sun was out when we were there at the beginning of August. Some people were in the pool, but we hopped in the hot tub!

We had temperatures of 77 in Ketchikan and slightly lower but in the 70s in misty fjords, wrangell and Sitka in early September, just a few weeks ago Clearly exceptional but we were out on deck in short sleeves drinking at 6.30pm! Pack shorts just in case!

it's not like a bathing suit takes up a lot of space! it's not worth worrying about .....just pack it and hope for good weather .
