Aussies Ditching Their Kids To Cruise

We generally cruise in school holidays. That is when there are lots of kids. We have cruised once for a special reason where 4 days of the cruise was outside of school holidays (and the week before that was the longer private school holidays) where there were 28 kids in total on the Solstice! So I would think it is easy to cruise without children on board. I agree that poorly behaved children are obnoxious, just as poorly behaved adults are obnoxious. But not all children are poorly behaved, not all teenagers are bored. Mine played a lot of board games on the Solstice cruise I mentioned above.

First, Lots of kids actually dislike coming on vacation and being thrust into the overly physically active things like rock climbing and giant water slides. They simply do not appeal to all children. My kids always preferred quieter activities, perhaps even more intellectual or less competitive activities on vacation,

Please tell me what "intellectual" activities Celebrity offers kids on board. What Disney ship has the rock climbing wall. Disney does have a lab where kids wear lab coats and do science experiments, great nightly shows that are geared towards families, large family friendly pools, no casino's and on and on. Anyway here is Cruise Critic's list of best ship awards for family's. Sorry Celebrity did not make the list. https://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/cruiserschoice_index.cfm?Category=Family

I think it depends on what sort of cruises you take too. We get off at every port and spend as much time in the ports as is possible, and the kids are with us. We confer, before we sail, what everyone would like to see and do during our time there. On our next cruise, we have very few sea days (I think 2) where they will do their own thing onboard. They are seeing the world, one cruise at a time ;). Usually, we also spend time at pre/post port hotels and there are normally no climbing walls etc. there either.

I never said that the other cruise lines do not appeal to some kids. I countered your assertion that Celebrity has nothing to offer but elevators. It simply is not true. Kids love art classes, trivia, scavenger hunts, photography challenges etc. You are making assumptions that are incorrect.

Southerbreezes screwed up on how to do a reply, which in return has screwed up who said what in your reply and the above quote. I'm pointing it out because I don't want the second paragraph of your latest post to be credited to me. It's Southernbreeze's somewhat irrelevant statement.

I love Cruise Critic but don't pay much attention to their lists of best ship awards. Years ago the people on the Disney board were ticked off that one of the Disney ships was not listed as the best of everything ever created in there world. They had a concerted effort on their board to make the Disney ships as gods own creation and it worked. I think also that many of these awards and rankings go by reputation. My kids grew up on Celebrity and their children's programs were very underrated. And to show I'm being fair, how many people on here think that Celebrity now deserves all the accolades for their food that they got back in the Roux era. I think not.

You are in the minority here I am afraid. Celebrity DOES DESERVE accolades for the food during the Michael Roux era. Like Duh! ;p

You misinterpreted what I said, please note the location of the word now in my original statement, they absolutely deserved the accolades back then but do they deserve those same accolades for their food now. I don't think so but if you look at reviews and surveys they still get the same comments from them that they did 20 years ago. Hope that explains it a bit better.

You know that second paragraph was not my quote. It was Southernbreeze's.

I understood perfectly what you meant, Don, and was just about to state it: do they deserve to take credit NOW for those accolades awarded during Michael Roux's time.

Sorry Don, I misread. The Michael Roux era was obviously the best for Celebrity.
