Vancouver running suggestions

Recommended Posts

We are going to be staying at the Hampton Downtown next weekend and my husband is currently training for a half marathon and would like to do a couple of runs one of 6 miles and one of 12. Just looking for flat and if there is something other than sidewalk to look at that would be great. We are staying at the Hampton on Robson street. Thanks in advance!

Head down to the water (not far from the Hampton Inn) and he can run around False Creek. Either turn around and run back or he can use one of the bridges.

For longer run, he can head towards Stanley Park. All continuous with no roadways to cross once he's on the seawall.

Seawall is where it's at for smooth, level and no traffic etc. Google Maps has the full route pretty accurately laid out if you zoom in to make sure you're seeing the path closest to the water (might need a few manual points selected to ensure this). He can warm up on the walk down city streets to get there.

As others have mentioned, I think various parts of the seawall are going to be his best bet as the views are great and it's essentially flat.

We haven't done this full circuit in one go but the missus and I regularly do parts of the seawall from Kits Pool, to Granville Island, across the south side of False Creek, to Olympic Village, to Science World, to the north side of False Creek, to English Bay, to around Stanley Park, to Coal Harbour, and to Canada Place. The path is fairly intuitive except for some parts like around Granville Island and under the north end of the Granville Street Bridge. However, if you try to keep along the water as best as you can, you'll find the way. Also, if you don't want to run around the perimeter of Stanley Park, there are a few shortcuts that cut across somewhat along Lost Lagoon.

If you want to cut short the False Creek portions, the Cambie Street Bridge is the best as it has a staircase (southside) and ramp (northside) to the seawall. It feels safer to walk across because of a barrier between the sidewalk and traffic. Burrard Street Bridge is ok too. You do overshoot the seawall a bit but it's not too bad. There's a lot of construction going on with it currently though. I generally don't like walking across the Granville Street Bridge. It overshoots the seawall on both sides. There's no barrier between the sidewalk and traffic.

Not sure about distances though. Maybe use this map as a guide or google map it?
