Does anyone know when they usually announce what will be done during ship refurbishments / dry docks. We are booked on the Elation this October and I read where it will be dry docked for nearly a month just prior to our sailing. Wondering what all will be done.

Yes I know...as I am booked on her for October. She will go into dry dock on September 27th to October 9th...the reason why I chose October 21 is sometimes they don't finish what they need to do in dry dock and sometimes the first cruise after the dry dock may have restrictions because they will continue the work while the cruise is on with passengers.

They are replacing the Grill and rotisserie for Guy's Burger Joint

Replacing Mongolian Wok for the BlueIguana Cantina

Adding Alchemy Bar

Adding Cherry on Trop

crew area renovations

Hotel maintenance and cosmetic enhancements in public areas...new carpeting, wall coverings, tile and lighting

It was a great ship/crew already. Dry dock renovations can only add to what was a great cruise. Many of the cruise snobs won't consider the Elation because they "only sail the newer bigger ships" [emoji849]

We have only sailed on bigger ships(Carnival Dream and RC Liberty) but we are looking forward to trying a smaller ship. I read a lot of negative things about the Elation but I looked at pictures and videos and it already looked pretty nice to me. Can't wait to see it after the renovations. We are doing the 5 day Oct 7 sailing to Nassau and HMC.

Anthony, we went on the Elation last Spring and it was one of our favorite cruises we ever took. It was a last minute decision and we booked i believe 3 weeks out. HMC was in the top 3 of beaches i have ever been to. It was gorgeous. It was one of the most attentative crews i have ever been around. From the cabin steward to the waiters to the bartenders, they were all great. The CD was incredible (forgot his name, looked a little bit like Colin Kapernick). You couldnt beat the price either. We had a choice of the Elation out of Jax for 5 nights or I believe it was the Sunshine out of Charleston for 4 nights. Both leaving port the same day. We chose the Elation because it was 1 night longer and $600 cheaper. I hear the Sunshine is a really nice ship, but you give me the choice of cruising 1 day longer and saving $600, lol, there is no choice! :D

Now onto my soapbox so let the flaming begin.....

(Anthony, not directing this at just you, just spouting off)....I would really like to know what the negative reviews are about. I have never understood the statement of "We only cruise the newer, bigger ships".....okkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk,,,,,,why? If you say "I like balconies and the Elation doesnt have alot of balconies"....you know what, that is cool, the Elation doesnt have alot of balconies, so i get that

"We like Specialty restaurants and the Elation doesnt have any"....again, good reason, i understand that and to a cruiser that may be important.

The "newer/bigger" argument just for the fact is the ship is newer and bigger is perhaps the most idiotic reasoning i ever heard....Its like saying "i dont like sunny days on Tuesday", it makes no sense. Let me take a stab at something....the "newer/bigger" mindset LOVES the Vista because, well, its "newer and bigger".....:D....so when a new ship comes along in 3 or 4 yrs and the Vista isnt the newest and biggest, does that mean you dont like the Vista anymore?....seriously?

Anthony, good choice on the Elation, i am sure you will have a blast!!!!

True! And We will have fun, we are not too hard to please. And we thought Carnival was way better value for the money than RC and had better food and entertainment. But maybe that's just us.

Let me try to make you understand. Many people choose to cruise for the ports, while others cruise for the ship. After cruising 25 times in the Caribbean over the past 30 years, I choose to cruise for the ship. Would love a cruise that went nowhere for 8 days...Save on port charges. Went on the Destiny in back to back years when she was the first ship to be 100,000 tons and enjoyed the Breeze when she was the first Carnival ship without the neon colors. And we'll be on the Horizon in 2018 and 2019 because of the exclusive Havana area. There is no way that I would go on a 70,000 ton ship again. And I also prefer my cruises to be 7+ days out of either Miami, Fort Lauderdale or NYC because I prefer reasonable nonstop airfare.

It was a month long dry dock. When did they change it

Just checked and it is still a month dry dock 8/31-9/27. So one would assume they would do more then just add 2.0

SNJ, you said you like the Horizon because of the Havana area....that makes sense, I get that. What I seriously don't understand is when you say you will not go on a 70K ton ship again? Why???? Just because a ship is heavier, its better? Or are you saying that you only like certain amenities that are only on a 100K ton ship?

SNJCruiser- I agree with you completely, next month will be my 70th cruise and I turn 54 so been there done it all tired of the same old ports...but the southern Caribbean every now and then is very enjoyable. Honestly, I don't understand why people cruise for the ports because your basically docked at the most unpleasant part of the island and you only have a handful of hours there, you don't have the time to see the actual island, the nicer parts. I feel if you want to see the island go on a land based vacation there and you have the entire experience of the island. Our favorite island well we never thought it be because we took cruises to Aruba, then one year family was going to Aruba and we joined them, well needless to say, it was the best trip the best island we ever been to we loved it so much, that we go there each and every year for two weeks mainly in July and August (the months where I won't take a cruise, I stay away from certain times of the year when kids are out of school and prices are the highest at these times). So I understand what your saying. I also prefer cruises of 8 nights or more but we are limited to them unfortunately.

I do enjoy the smaller ships which to us are very quaint and we find we make the most friends as we get to bump into the same people over and over...they lack the bells and whistles yes, but its not the only cruise we take....we generally will take a larger newer ship around May and then take a smaller ship around October. Carnivals low prices are great, gives us an extra cruise a year plus our Aruba trip and a couple getaway trips a year. When I cruise Carnival I know I don't eat well but we expect this and have dinner each and every night in the Steakhouse which to me is the best specialty restaurant out of all of RC! We been doing this on the past four or five cruises with the exception if the ship doesn't have the steakhouse, but that was the Fascination out of Jax now we have the Elation that has the Steakhouse and thankfully she is going into dry dock this year before we get to cruise on her. I love the fact Carnival still has the live band playing at night and the casino treats us the best out of all other cruise lines and we find the staff/workers to be the friendliest of them all.

SCAnthony those were the dates I found on all the sites of dry dock of course they could be wrong off a few days. I am sure you will have your cruise, perhaps they planning on doing some type of work while having a sailing date?

:) They are doing more to the ship than you will see....recently onboard for series of B2B2B2B cruises and the hotel manager was very kind to have a couple of conversations about the drydock.

The crew quarters and other areas we do not see are getting much needed upgrades. That is why the ship is in drydock so long.

Rumor has it they will add some balcony cabins like they did on the Fascination years ago but then again, if that were true, they let us know so people can book them.

If they do would they let us upgrade without charging some kind of change fee. I did find it odd that all but a few of the OV cabins were listed as sold out as far back as a month ago. Maybe they're holding them til they announce the addition of balconies? When I booked I think there was only like 8-9 OV cabins available, none mid ship. Would that be normal to be nearly sold out 7-8 months in advance for an October date?

Yes. You're correct with your assumption regarding the amenities that are on the newer, larger ships. Since new Caribbean ports are few and far between for me, the ship is the destination for me 90% of the time during my decision making process.

No idea if it's true or not, so please don't shoot me if it doesn't happen, but there has been more than a few mentions that it might get the Red Frog Rum Bar and Blue Iguana Tequila Bar as well. As I said, NOT sure, but I for one would certainly enjoy both!

Does anyone know if it will get waterworks added to it. I'm looking at either booking her or Ecstasy, and idk if one slide and a small pool will make my 8 year old to happy. Super happy about Guys though.

I've wondered the same thing. I would think with a month long dry dock it would have to be some major upgrades like the water park.
