Good morning from the fabulous Best Western Airport Hotel in Baltimore Maryland!!!

My live-in lover John and I have road tripped from Cleveland, eaten our crab cakes, relaxed in this lovely hotel and now it's almost time to hop on that shuttle and board the GotS!!!! Five long months I have been waiting for and imagining this day - while enjoying so many tips, photos and live reviews from you all here on Cruise Critic. I hope to add to that with my gauche and foolish posts over the next week or so.

That's right.....this will, in fact, be my First Cruise EVER!!! First for either of us. Sure I live on Lake Erie and have been on small tour boats and river boats and there was that three hour tour on the SS Minnow that seems to drag on and on but nothing before so grand as a Grandeur is the Seas!! [emoji924] So please, follow along and be amused by my inexperience. I have a pretty good sense of humor so feel free to make fun of me and add any advice you see fit. As I understand it I should get up early place my belongs on a pool chair and never return. Then head to guest services and complain about at least five things a day that don't really matter and finally make sure I adjust all my gratuities to 0% before I leave the ship, all correct right?? I need your help here, friends!

I have a wifi package and a drink package. I gather the former will be spotty and the latter spot on so that may affect my posts. You've been warned. [emoji483]

Oh! And J'adore food porn so we'll begin with this lovely photo of the appetizer platter John and I shared at Timbuktu last night. Please follow with many comments about how I should have eaten somewhere else.

I look forward to amusing you all for the next 10 days!

Thanks! [emoji8]

Have a "Grand" time on the "Grand"eur......first cruises are normally the best and will have the best memories, good and bad (let's hope all good)....Hope you have fantastic weather and lots of fun. You picked a great ship and port for your first cruise experience. We have been on the Grandeur over 12 times and are looking forward to our cruise Oct. 28th.

Have a great cruise.....I'll be following along!

I'm so glad to hear this. We chose somewhat haphazardly based on proximity but it seems like a good fit for us. Thank you :)

My first cruise was also on the Grandeur of the Seas! It was to the Mexican Riviera and we had a great time! I hope you have a wonderful time!

Following. We are on this itinerary in late October. We've been on Grandeur many times, but have never gone North. We are interested in finding the best lobster rolls and poutine to be had in our ports of call, so please go to as many tasting sessions as you can and report back here frequently! Any other insider information you have to offer is also most welcome, as the only place we know for sure what we are going to do is Boston (day trip on our own to Sam Adams using the "T.") Wishing you fair winds and following seas.

Following! I love reading entertaining posts, and yours ranks right up there!

Please, if you can, do lots of pictures of the public areas of the ship. We are doing our first ever Caribbean cruise on the Grandeur in November, and I want to know what to expect.

Gladly! Thanks for letting me know what's useful :)

Oh yes. These are things we want to do as well. As I understand there's lots of options so I'll share what I can! Won't be long until your cruise comes along!! :)

Congrats on your first cruise. You sound like an easygoing person who will love your experience.

Grandeur is a good starter ship as it is not overwhelming in size and has a great crew. Please say hello from "short Caucasian woman with tall Korean husband" to Huangxiu Chang if you see her outside the Windjammer squirting sanitizer. She is small, wears glasses, is friendly and fun and will teach you some Chinese if you are willing. She was our fave employee on our 9/7/17 New England/Canada cruise.

Huangxiu Chang is by far the most memorable crew member on Grandeur in my opinion. Most of the crew is of a similar disposition, which is one of the reasons I come back to Grandeur, The ship may not have everything the bigger ships have, but they have a very good staff.

I am not sure where you will be going, but by far the best chowder I had was in Freeport. I cannot remember the name of the place, but it was off the main street, almost in a basement. Very few places to sit, and you ordered by size and type (clam, halibut, etc...). Don't even ask for Manhattan clam. It reminded me of the "Soup ****" on Seifeld. The best lobster roll I had was right on the water in Portland.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Mike

The shows, Rock n Roll trivia, rest and relaxation, and horseback riding on beach in Bermuda. Grandeur was also our very first ship in 2005. Since then, we've been on the mega ships, and they are okay, but it was fabulous to be back on the Grandeur. ENJOY!
