Sept 30 Divina still going to San Juan? REALLY MSC?

from this morning's post:

MSC Divina (Update: September 21, 2017)

We are closely monitoring Hurricane Maria and our thoughts and prayers are with the Caribbean islands currently in the path of the storm. At this time, our itineraries for MSC Divina remain as planned. However, we will keep you posted should we need to make changes. Please continue to check this web page for further updates.

I mean at this point it would almost be disrespectful to pull into San Juan with a shiny pretty ship full of passengers on holiday into a devastated island. Reports indicate weeks to months of areas with no power. If you are reading this, MSC, please change the itinerary, or at least not post things that basically indicate that everything is all hunky dory. :(

I believe MSC and other cruise lines know better what to do than regular Joes in internet what to do, and they doing it with full approve of San Juan .

It takes time to formulate alternative plans. I'd look for an update next week.

They won't be going to San Juan on that cruise or probably several more, but both the cruise lines and San Juan will be wanting to have ships calling there again as soon as it's feasible.

I can only imagine what MSC and all of the cruise lines are going through right now. Trying to book alternative docks for different calls at ports, getting new itineraries out to booked pax, handling all of the pax who are cancelling or rescheduling cruises, and the list goes on.

I know it must be unsettling to not know which ports of call your future cruise will go to, but at the same time, MSC will do all they can to make sure you have a wonderful and safe cruise. Be patient and cut them some slack!

Can't say enough good things about Captain Massa and the entire staff and crew for how they handled our 2 week that was extended to a 3 week cruise due to Irma.

Did you notice that they've removed the statement about visiting Antigua instead of Saint Martin? So if you were to read that message today and had not previously noticed the change, you'd have to assume that they were planning on bringing us to Saint Martin and San Juan.

Rebuilding requires money. Tourism brings money and solidarity.

Not going might mean passing an opportunity to offer a little help, like other ships did in the Caribbean when they offered transport to stranded people.

exactly my point; which is why I can't imagine MSC posting that everything is "as is" for now.

Better to not say anything.

Possibly they issued a statement because they are being besieged with inquiries wanting to know what's happening. I'd be inclined to interpret the statement as it's 'as is' because at the moment we don't know rather than attempting to imply everything is ok.

Perhaps they should've just put an update which said "we really don't know and it's just too soon to know"....

You've just stated what I was thinking, but couldn't put into words, CF.

The devastation in that region is almost incomprehensible and the logistics for cruise companies must be a complete nightmare.

It goes without saying (though I will, anyway) that thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this catastrophe. But, for those booked on cruises, concern for their holiday plans is understandable.

I'm on the NCL Escape for what was supposed to be an Eastern Itinerary Dec,2. It's been changed to Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Great Stirrup Cay, and Nassau. would think in the end, that is similar to what the other lines will do, except for Great Stirrup Cay.

I wonder if the cruise lines will open up their private islands to other ships to help accommodate. I know that they have allowed "other" companies to visit in the past. Carnival has stopped at Coco Cay (Royal Caribbean's island) in the past.

Not sure if this article will show- http://www.travelweekly.com/Cruise-Travel/Carnival-ships-to-call-at-private-island-of-Royal-Caribbean

I agree. Maybe Cozumel and Costa Maya. I am booking my excursions that have limited availability (for instance Nachi in Cozumel takes only 130 guests) this week/next since the Western itinerary will be very crowded.

Loved the Escape. Was on her in July for my 50th with my dh (left kids at home).

It was one of my best cruises ever!

In spite of the title of this thread, Royal Caribbean has adjusted it's sailing from this weekend to Wednesday from San Juan. This is based on the anticipated port opening. The airport is scheduled to resume commercial service tomorrow. So with airports and ports open for business, I'm sure MSC is waiting to make adjustments. The Old San Juan area is not as devastated as other parts of the island from the pictures I have seen. Obviously, shore excursions and anything that affects other parts of the island are on hold.

I read an article that stated the airport in san juan is devestated and i also seen pictures of old san juan where the streets are COVERED with debris and the trees and benches and lamps are all destroyed and the buildings are missing walls and roofs. If that is not as bad as the rest of the island that is good but it is still more damage than I would like to see. I know what i am about to say may sound selfish after all the destruction there but dont get me wrong i am praying for the people there and I am hurt for them BUT I just dont want a devastated san juan to be my wifes first impression of my second favorite country..

Amazing, The wind has barely stopped blowing and the vultures are out? Give MSC a break. Changing an itinerary takes some time and the available ports are now getting a bit crowded. Your cruise line needs a few hours (or possibly days) to analyze all the options. If I were a betting man, I would bet that you might get an extra day at sea. The problem is that your ship is schedules to go all the way east to Antigua....but that would pretty much eliminate any other port because of storm damage. And there might be issues as to whether Antigua is capable of handling a ship at this time.

The reality is that the cruise lines have major problems finding where they can go. The Western Caribbean is fine, but will now be overcrowded and a totally different kind of itinerary from your cruise. So you need to take a breath, relax, and go with the flow.

I am being patient over this. There change in statement eliminating the subbing of Antigua. We know that Nassau is still ok. I think they are waiting to see what happens there. I think those two ports (Nassau and Antigua) will be our ports. So, IMO they just need to change San Juan. The good idea for me is to have another day at sea.

I am hoping that we do not get an extra sea day but see that is the easiest change to make. My thought is that they may put Freeport in for Thursday before Nassau. That would give 2 sea days , Antigua , 1 sea days, Freeport and Nassau. Another idea would be an overnight in Nassau, there is nightlife to do with the Casino nice restaurants any thoughts?
