Cartagena Private Tour

There's different schools of thought regarding tours or doing it on your own. You get a better cultural experience if you immerse yourself in it rather than the buffer zone of a tour with a guide who is leading you everywhere and doing everything for you. History can be found on the internet, why do you want to waste your time while you're there learning about it? Make the most of your time, do your research ahead of time, go and see what you like on your own schedule. Cut the apron strings, Cartagena is a piece of cake to get around, very tourist friendly.

We just did the Princess tour 2 weeks ago and were really glad we did. The tour was 4 1/2 hours and we saw and learned a lot during that time. Yes we could have done it on our own and we did contact Dora to check that option out but decided on the Princess tour. Our guide loved his country and told us so much about the customs & life in Cartegena. We would not have learned that doing it on our own. We spent most of the time in Old Cartegena on a walking tour as well as toured the fort. It was VERY hot and we really appreciated the air-conditioned bus during the tour stops. We went all over, even through downtown Cartegena and learned all about the different lifestyles of the classes of people.

No matter which way you do it, the vendors are in your face everywhere you go! That was absolutely awful...the worst we have experienced in any country! And they are all selling the same junk. So beware! Even in the cathedral, there are nuns begging for money!
