This was my friends' cabin on our recent Boston-to-Bermuda cruise:

Ship - Norwegian Dawn

Deck - 10

Stateroom # - 10698

Stateroom Category – BB (accessible cabin)

Starboard or Port Side - Port side

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Yes

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No

Balcony View - Nice port-side view, no obstructions

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Huge balcony -- wide due to oversized accessible cabin layout. There is no wheelchair ramp up to the raised balcony, so you can't roll a wheelchair up onto the balcony.

Was wind a problem? - No

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - not applicable

Any specific problems with this cabin? - Just the lack of a ramp up onto the balcony as noted above.

Any other comments? -

Unlike cabin 10700, the entrance to cabin 10698 is not blocked by a steel pillar. It would be easier to travel with both a motorized scooter and a manual wheelchair if you booked this cabin.

The location of this cabin was great -- right near the aft elevators, so that a person in a wheelchair or scooter does not have to travel down a long hallway full of laundry carts to get to the elevators.

Only one 110 volt outlet in cabin (plus shaver outlet in bathroom). There were also 220 volt outlets (one near closet, one for TV/coffeemaker). Bring a power strip and/or international adapters.

Ship - Breakaway

Deck - 5

Stateroom # - 5208

Stateroom Category – OB

Starboard or Port Side - ???

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Yes! Clean, spacious, comfortable

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? -no

Balcony View - N/A

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? N/A

Was wind a problem? N/A

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? The level to stop the sink doesn't work, so not so great if you want to rinse or soak your bathing suits, underwear, etc...

Any other comments? Quiet, convenient, spacious, comfortable, things are arranged intuitively. Nothing blocking the closet (I visited a mini-suite and the bed was placed in front of the closet, making the closet space almost useless)

Ship- Escape

Deck 9

Cabin 9318

Stateroom Category H6

Port side

Quiet stateroom- extremely quiet heard no noise from either side or above us.

Not a connecting stateroom

Balcony view was aft (back of ship) and gorgeous

Balcony size- for this category it is the largest balcony. We had table with 4 chairs and 3 loungers. There was plenty of room to stand.

No soot or wind problem

No issues with this cabin even though one level above waterfront and above Cagneys. There were no noise issues ever.

Even though the cabin is aft the walk didn't seem far to the Haven- we'd walk down stairs to waterfront and walk to forward elevator and go up to Haven. Nice walk and never felt far.

Ship -Breakaway

Deck - 13

Stateroom # - 13858 and 13860

Stateroom Category – BA

Starboard or Port Side - starboard

Quiet Stateroom? – yes. We expected to hear noise from the connecting cabin, but with both inner doors fully shut, we heard nothing. I was pleasantly surprised and would not hesitate to book a connecting room in the future.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? -yes. These two staterooms connect. 13858 sleeps 3; 13860 sleeps 4. Both cabins use the sofa for the third person. This was the first time I saw it made into a bed and was surprised at how large and comfortable it was. Definitely OK for an adult (unless very tall or very wide)!

Balcony View - the straight downward view from both cabins is the lifeboats and the Waterfront .

Balcony Size? Normal for the BA (small!)

Was wind a problem? -no

Any specific problems with this cabin? The shower in 13858 didn't drain well- causing flooding if you took a long shower or turned up the water pressure. We asked for the drain to be cleaned, which helped a little. If you book this cabin, be proactive and ask for maintenance as soon as you see a problem starting.

Any other comments? - We asked to open the balcony divider. We were told that they might be able to do so once we were docked in Bermuda. Before then, we examined the divider itself and realized that if it was opened, it would block the balcony door for 13858. Since our plan had been to use 13858's balcony door to access both balconies while the little ones were sleeping in 13860, we gave up on opening the divider.

For those into bed positions: 13860 has the bed by the balcony and 13858 has the bed by the bathroom.

Headed to south america next year on the Sun,staying in cabin 9076 (aft facing suite) and im pretty sure that NCL has the cabin picture and floor plan switched with the forward facing suite on there website. I think this could cause some serious problems for them with booking these cabins. I did chat with 1 of their representitives and she said she would let the techies know.

Hope I am doing this correctly!

Ship - SUN

Deck - 6

Stateroom # - 6007

Stateroom Category – Oceanview Guaranteed

Starboard or Port Side - Cheapside??

Quiet Stateroom? – Very quiet. There's only a few rooms in this part of the ship and above me were just cabins. I did however hear when the person to the left of me would get morning wake up calls but it was very low. I was also on the jogging path and you don't hear it from inside.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - Yes

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – NA

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - NA

Was wind a problem? - NA

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - NA

Any specific problems with this cabin? - The only problem was fairly small. The minibar was stuck all the way at the end of the cabin near the porthole in a cabinet. In order to open the minibar's door, you had to sort of lift it up.

Any other comments? - It was a great cabin. I was just a party of 1 and was very happy with it. I felt like I got a bargain on this cruise. Here are some photos I took of my cabin.

Ship - Escape

Deck - 16

Stateroom # - 16100

Stateroom Category – H8

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Quiet Stateroom? – Yes. End of passenger hallway. Only heard ship crew traffic for a few minutes when disembarkation luggage was picked up for the rest of the Haven Spa units.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No, but the master bedroom was private from the living room except for lavatory access. Much larger than the 309 square feet NCL posts for the Spa units.

Balcony View - Great view

Balcony Size? Oversized. Could handle two loungers and 2 sitting chair, most in this Spa category could only handle two sitting chair or maybe a one lounger with no walking room on balcony.

Was wind a problem? - As anticipated and appreciated.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? - No

Any other comments? - Likely the greatest value available in the Haven Suites, particularly when traveling with 3. The Haven Spa units come with complimentary spa access yet offer all the other benefits of a Haven unit usually at the lowest price. One only needs to walk up a stairway or two to step into the Haven enclave. While the living room sofa was not much more than a day bed when made up at night (slightly narrower in width than a twin) the extra room throughout the cabin was enthralling. We were delighted to have a king size bed rather than the merger of two smaller beds we usually experience. There was even a pocket door between the master bedroom and closet area en route to the lavatory/shower to provide maximum privacy. Even a couple would appreciate this cabin should they manage to snag it. We are still scratching our heads as to how we lucked out for our party of 3, all other Haven Spa cabins could only accommodate a party of two on this ship. Top of the line Stateroom Steward and Butler provided.

Ship - Jewel

Deck - 5

Stateroom # - 5504

Stateroom Category – Porthole

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – The stateroom was quiet except on port days when you could hear the ship being tugged into port or pulled away from port. This was an Alaska cruise and the trip through the Misty Fjords the captain decided to play Titanic and break up ice bergs. The ice bergs could be heard dragging against the hull.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No

Balcony View - N/A

Balcony Size? N/A

Was wind a problem? - N/A

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? - see above about Quiet

Any other comments? -It's a cabin for three people. Two twin beds plus one Murphy bed. Not much head space between the top and bottom bunk. I was on bottom and kept bumping my head on the top bunk. Storage space was plentiful. Three shelves for toiletries in the bathroom even though it was a bit cramped.

Special thanks to Mysticks1 on the Celebrity Cruises forum for this idea. I would like to begin to assemble one for NCL

To the moderators, I would appreciate if we could make this a "sticky" at the top of the page for all to see.

Twice a month - I will try to post a PDF for all the ships and cabin information compiled here.

Please, refrain from posting cabin questions here so this can purely be an informative thread, especially for those that are first time cruisers or seasoned cruisers looking for a great cabin.

The template is as follows:

Ship - Norwegian Dawn

Deck - 9

Stateroom # - 9208

Stateroom Category – Handicapped-accessible balcony

Starboard or Port Side - starboard

Quiet Stateroom? Yes (With comments on problems) –

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - no

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – no obstructions.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Huge. It was equipped with two chairs and one small table but the cabin steward brought us an additional table upon request. If available the balcony was large enough to accommodate two loungers.

Was wind a problem? - no

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? - no. The cabin was almost twice the width of a standard balcony with plenty of storage except in the bathroom where the lack of a counter and cabinet for the sink causes less space for toiletries. The shower was large and contrary to some complaints that I had read online we had no problem with water spreading Beyond the shower drains which encircle the shower.

Any other comments? - The cabin was equipped with two twin size beds (convertible to a queen) which headboarded on the same side of the room as the bathroom. Opposite the beds was a Bistro dining set with two padded arm chairs. There was a upper bunk folded up against the wall which would allow the cabin to be occupied by three persons. We loved this spacious comfortable cabin. It was located close to the elevator which was excellent due to my difficulty walking.

Ship - Gem

Deck - 9

Stateroom # - 9148

Stateroom Category – BC (Handicap Accessible Cabin)

Starboard or Port Side - Starboard Aft

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – yes

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - no

Balcony View - View was fine... no obstructions

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - normal with ramp for access. Also had an automatic balcony door

Was wind a problem? - no

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - no

Any specific problems with this cabin? - This cabin has a closet with a "pull-down" mechanism so it could be used by someone in a wheel chair or scooter. However, the hinge portion of the mechanism had been screwed together so it no longer pulled down. The pull bar had been left so it took up some room in the closet.

Any other comments? - we would book this same cabin again!

Ship - Breakaway

Deck - 11

Stateroom # - 11296 and 11298

Stateroom Category – BC

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Quiet Stateroom? – Sort of. The connecting doors between the rooms made it impossible to NOT hear our children next door, even when both doors were closed. The door to the bathroom in 11296 squeaks really loudly, so anytime anyone got up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, everyone in our party of 5 could hear it. And there was a fair amount of noise coming from the balcony area; other guests nearby had a tendency to have loud family arguments with their balcony door open, but we also had our balcony door open a fair amount. We probably would have heard less of that if we closed the balcony door.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? Yes

Balcony View - Unobstructed view in both rooms. Great view.

Balcony Size? Normal size. Fit two chairs and a small table. Perfect for reading or watching sunsets.

Was wind a problem? Only when the balcony door wasn't fully latched. The wind would whine through the crack in the door, but if you pull the handle up the noise goes away.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - No. I think the room is considered more mid-ship, but it's more aft of mid ship.

Any specific problems with this cabin? I made the mistake of locking the balcony door of 11298 one evening with the upper lock, and it would not unlock. Took a visit from maintenance to get it unlocked; that took about 12 hours to happen. Also, in room 11298 one of the closet doors is off its track and so it bangs a bit when the boat is rocky.

Any other comments? I thought deck 11 was the perfect place to be. A few decks below the craziness of the pool area, and a few decks above the craziness of the casino/restaurant area. Other than the random noise that comes from being in a large hotel area with other people, we couldn't hear anything from the dance clubs or daytime pool craziness. My kids loved the ropes course and Entourage club, which are located aft, so being toward the rear of the ship was good for us.

Our kids are 17, 14 and 10. We did the connecting room because you have to have an adult in each room. I was registered to one and my husband to the other, but my husband and I slept together and the kids slept in a room together. We won't be cruising again until after my oldest is 18. Still, I don't think I'd do connecting rooms again. It was hard to get a break from the kids. If I had to do it again, I would get two rooms and pay for each of them to use the messenger app on board so they could contact us without constantly feeling the need to be in our room.
