Anyone ever try to go here while in port? Assuming take the ferry then a taxi. Just not sure if it will be worth the time it takes to get there and back. Also would like to spend some time in st george while there.

We did that very recently.

We were docked at Hamilton this time so we took the bus from Hamilton to St George's. Form there we took a cab to Clearwater. We walked to Turtle Bay and spent time there. Entrance to Cooper's is just a few yards from Turtle Bay and there is another trail to the other side of Cooper's right across from Clearwater. On return we took the #6 bus back to St George's. The bus stop is across the road from Clearwater. Wait was about about 6 mts, although other have reported waiting for almost an hour....bus comes on the hour every hour, give or take a few minutes minutes. We spent the afternoon in St George's and took the bus back to Hamilton.

You can take

1. the ferry to StG from the dockyard and back,

2. the ferry to StG and then come back by bus to Hamilton and take the ferry from Hamilton to dockyard.

3. the ferry to StG and then come back by bus to Hamilton and take the bus from Hamilton to dockyard....very long!

You can take buses both ways with change of bus in Hamilton.....even longer than option 3 above. We have done all the options. It will depend on how much time you have, how much bus riding you want to do.

In my opinion, #2 will work out for you better, since you want to spend time in StG after coming back from Clearwater area and the ferries do not run as often as the bus.

We did this two years ago (docked at the Royal Dockyard). We found a cab driver willing to drive out there and return later at a designated time to pick us up. There are some taxi drivers who don't want to go all the way out there. The cab driver was great and very talkative about what was going on in Bermuda (plans for the casino, prep for the America's cup, etc.) as well as pointing out interesting spots along the drive.

Taking a taxi is definitely the pricey, but for the long trip we found it to be worthwhile. A year prior we took the bus from the dockyard out to Tobacco Bay in St. George. That required a bus transfer in Hamilton and felt so LOOONG, so by comparison the taxi was worth it for the long trip out to Clearwater.
