Ghost on the Triumph?

Wait a minute. Did you say the Triumph? My Grandmother sailed with us on the Triumph. She passed away in her sleep on night on our 7 day cruise back in 2011. She loved cruising and always said she wanted to be buried at sea. But her hair wasn't dyed.........it was naturally red. And we didn't stay in cabin 2234. We were up a couple of decks. Of course, she was also dyslexic.

OOOoooooooOOOOOOooohhhhh!

Not on a ship but in my house. We just moved in and my son asked why his dad came in his room in the middle of the night. His dad never did. A few nights later my daughter asked the same question. I didn't think much about it we found out an elderly gentleman died in our home.

Considering the cruising demographic, with an extra high % of elderly, or obese, or diabetic, or sleep apnea, or high blood pressure, and/or cardiac issues, I doubt that any cruise ship in existence for a few years has escaped having at least one fatality, probaly a lot more. When you factor in the risky behaviors such as over eating and drinking, with too many ED meds, it's really a wonder that every cruise ship isn't heavily haunted!

Just read an article on aol.com news (it ran the day we got back from our recent cruise) about stuff cruise employees don't tell you (or something along those lines) and in the article it stated that every ship has 2 or 3 people who die on board per month and that there is a morgue on board. That statistic wouldn't surprise me at all given the number of elderly people I saw on my last cruise in wheel chairs, a few of them with oxygen tubes. I'm thinking the strain of traveling might be enough to send them off.

Once we were on a cruise (not Carnival) and we may have seen a ghost. We were in the MDR and had finished eating. A man walked up to us and he looked a lot like our waiter. He asked how we were doing and my wife asked for coffee. He vanished and we never saw him again. The next night our regular waiter was back. Spooky. :o.

That happens all the time in the casino. You see a waiter, but then they disappear never to be seen again.

Maybe it is ghost sitting in those pool chairs with the magazines, flip flops, and towels on them. Could it be they are not empty, but haunted??

No chairs hogs, chair phantoms?

Ah, you may be onto something there!

My uncle is a priest who has gone as chaplain on hundreds of sailings, and he has told me that people die on ships with some regularity - a lot of why the cruise lines bring a priest/minister/rabbi on for free.

I don't believe in ghosts, but I work in a very old house (early 1700's) and a few things have happened here that nobody can explain. Things being moved overnight with nobody in the building, as confirmed by security cameras. People hearing footsteps going up and down the stairs when there is nobody there. To my knowledge nobody has actually seen anything here - if anyone had there would be no way that I would work alone at night as I occasionally do.

So, though cruises are my "happy place" I tend to think my body releases a lot stress throughout the week on a cruise and the way it comes out sometimes is in dreams. I do this at home too, when I'm very stressed or on trips when I'm out of a routine.

On the last cruise, my friend was dead asleep and she said I woke her up talking in my sleep, something she is kinda used to at this point (last time i threw a pillow across the room and yelled "witch" with a B at something). She just looked at me and said, "Brooke shut up." lol. But she said she woke up later and I was whispering something with my hand held out. She got closer and she said I was saying, "Help her, help her." She said that I then started making strange noises in my throat. She swears up and down that I was speaking to some ghost of the sea or something who had drowned. I say i was dreaming and probably not propped up enough on my pillow, so I was snoring.

I've been on a few ghost hunts and find then pretty interesting, mostly for the historical parts of them. I don't know if they are real or not, so I keep an open mind. But that's the best story I got as for a cruise ship ghost story.

The queen Mary has been investigated many times by groups and the things people caught there are crazy..

When DH and I where on our honeymoon in Oct 1988 we had a tour of the Queen Mary. The night before the tour we were watching a show on TV about ghosts on the Queen Mary in our hotel (it was close to Halloween so all those types of shows were on). Of course we were on the look out for ghosts the next day as we toured the Queen Mary. As we toured the ship we were down by the engines when they let off a big puff of steam. I about hit the ceiling I jumped so high.

I have not had an encounter with a ghost on a ship but the night my grandmother passed away when I was about 15 I had a dream about her where she told me everything was going to be ok. I found out the next morning that she had passed in the night (it was unexpected). That always comes back to me when I find myself in hard situations....and everything eventually does come out ok.

I love ghost stories. When I travel, I always try to book a "haunted" hotel. I haven't seen a ghost yet, but when I have traveled with my daughter, we have had some "weird" experiences. When I travel with my husband, nothing weird happens. I think he scares them off. lol

Here is a website that documents cruise ships' accidents and deaths. I doubt the death tallies are accurate because there are not many listed, but I still thought it would be interesting to some.

I worked on The Mississippi Queen and Delta Queen. I believe both were haunted. And I certainly had several pax die over the years. Legend has it.....(go look it up....its interesting reading!) BUT....I did not know any of the legend before going to work and still thought that it was!

Back in the late 80s or early 90s I was working for a bakery and had to deliver to the Delta Queen. It gave me the creeps when I walked onboard. Not sure what it was about that boat, but I couldn't get back off fast enough.

I really dont know much about this sort of thing, but I have been told that one of my grandmothers had psychic ability, and that I seem to have inherited some to those. Not sure really, but, when i was much younger, I had some very strange experiences, having heard the voices of departed relatives and some other strange occurances. As I got older, I tended to shut those things, feelings, and things out, but occasionally I just dont seem to be able to completely block some things, and at some times when I have been in troubling situations, I seem to have been guided strangely enough out of those.

My point is that I think some of us may have an extra sense that others dont, or that some of us , like myself dont choose to cultivate, and sometimes we are the ones that experience these sort of things, like OP. Some who are not frightened can find ways to deal with such experiences, but I am not one of them. I am interested and tempted but am a bit frightened still. I am however still more intrigued and interested however than frightened.

So maybe the ghost appearances were because she was one of those who had the "open" mind to the paranormal?

dont know but just pondering.

It's so intriguing, isn't it? I'm a very open-minded person, so perhaps you're right about that. I just can't figure out where I stand on ghosts and the paranormal though, as I don't believe in an afterlife.
