Rare babs135 Posted June 4, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 4, 2017 DD is looking at a cruise that sails out of Cape Liberty. What, if any, sights can she expect to see? Will she see the Statue of Liberty?
easyboy Posted June 4, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 4, 2017 Yes, we saw it on the way to verazano bridge. Sent from my iPad using Forums
TSS Alex Posted June 6, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 6, 2017 Statue of Liberty is a little over two miles to the left of any ship sailing from Cape Liberty - you will not sail past it. Lowest Manhattan is just under 4 miles away, which will give you a good view of the skyline. Just to the right as you leave the pier is Robbin's Reef Lighthouse. As you sail out, Staten Island will be on your right and Brooklyn on your left.
Innocent bystander Posted June 8, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 8, 2017 There is also the 9/11 Teardrop memorial. It is fabulous.
acctgtogo Posted June 13, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 13, 2017 Back before Bistro on Five became sushi, we would eat lunch there after boarding. We had a table by the windows and could see the Statue of Liberty from our table. Now, I didn't see it at first because I was looking for something big - as it was a distance away it was much smaller than I thought it should be. But we could definitely see it. We did not sail past on our way out but I heard that sometimes the ships do that. Maybe you will be the lucky ones to sail past.
cruiserking Posted June 17, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 17, 2017 On the port side about fifteen minutes after you go under the Verrazano Bridge you'll pass Coney Island. You can just get a glimpse of the old parachute drop, if you have binoculars you'll see it even better. Jonathan
Finabear Posted June 24, 2017 #7 Share Posted June 24, 2017 The Summit will sail up past the SOL, turn around, and then proceed out when she is able. We did that on our trip to Bermuda.
philpcruiser Posted June 24, 2017 #8 Share Posted June 24, 2017 The Summit will sail up past the SOL, turn around, and then proceed out when she is able. We did that on our trip to Bermuda. She has not sailed up to the SOL the past 5 cruises. Even last year, sailing up was not a gimme.
Rare Got2Cruise Posted June 24, 2017 #9 Share Posted June 24, 2017 She has not sailed up to the SOL the past 5 cruises. Even last year, sailing up was not a gimme. That stinks. I wonder why. Capt Leo and then Capt Kate used to do it on a regular basis. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
philpcruiser Posted June 24, 2017 #10 Share Posted June 24, 2017 That stinks. I wonder why. Capt Leo and then Capt Kate used to do it on a regular basis. I wonder why too. The weather hasn't been bad, nor was there unusual harbor traffic. Fuel costs? It was a nice treat. Hope Capt. Kate heads up on Tuesday.
