I posted this on another forum and advised to post this on here.

Hi

I am going on my first cruise with P & O in September. I am aware that a daily gratuity charge is added to the bill but I was wondering if you tipped stewards bar staff etc. and if so how often and how much?

Thanks

I expect this thread will turn into the usual debate, so I will just give a simple answer to the question.

I always pay the "automatic tip" and unless it's a very unusual situation, I consider that to cover everything.

If you leave the auto tips on there is no need to do anything else. Bar staff are covered by the drinks they sell and the bar stewards are on higher wages than the waiters.

Simple answer is to leave the tips on and enjoy your cruise.

Which is basically the same answer you were given in the other thread you started.

It seems to be a very emotive subject no matter what site you belong to.

My own thoughts (for what they are worth) I personally will leave the advised tip - no more as I would see that as tipping twice. People must do whatever they want but I have no issue with tipping for a service.

Until it is compulsory then it is very much an individual decision.
