Daytime Attire on QM2

Hello! This will be my first time on the QM2 and I have a question about daytime attire. What would be considered overdressed? In my everyday life I typically wear dresses and skirts on a daily basis, would dressing this way make me look out of place? Is the typical day wear mostly jeans, shorts, and t-shirts as it is on other cruise lines? I am quite excited that there is an evening dress code enforced and have many ballgowns and cocktail dresses picked out for those occasions. But any afdionral information would be very helpful! Thank you!

In our experience of a recent two way Transatlantic crossing.....most wore the same as on our other 35 cruises! I.e. trousers, t-shirts, shorts, etc. But also there were people in dresses, even hats, so I would say wear what you like to wear, it won't be a problem !!

Your usual day wear sounds fine, I usually wear skirts or dresses but there is no specific daytime dress code so you will see a variety of outfits.

Please carry on wearing exactly what you typically wear. As a self appointed member of the fashion police, someone needs to help me up the game ;)

You will enjoy your QM2 crossing experience, I've lost count of how many I've taken , in fact I prefer a transatlantic crossing to taking a cruise, much more sophisticated and lots to do. Anyone who finds they are bored are certainly working at it.

Same here Bell Boy, I love B2B crossings. Loads to do and a great way to enjoy the ship. Next June can't come quick enough.

I'm just back from our TAs and I would say that I saw more slacks than jeans, on both men and women.

One consideration for the OP is destination. I think dress is more conservative on crossings than on cruises. People aren't going to go out and walk all day, get dusty and/or sweaty in port, so they wear nicer clothes. People who are dressed very casually tend to stand out because they're in the minority. On the WB, I was surprised to see a number of men in shorts and tropical-print shirts. That isn't against any dress code, but it looked out of place to me, especially when I heard one of them grumble that he didn't like how chilly it was outside. Hello? 50 degrees N latitude is not the Caribbean!

Just off my umpteenth TA, really people wear just about anything during the day from bespoke suits to tank tops and multiple tatoos for the gents. especially in the smoking area in the rear deck . This talented fellow with his bodyguard was on board the July 21 Westbound and was mingling nicely. He did not however don a suit and tie (bad for his image I suppose) and seemed to take meals in the buffet instead of the Grill.

Rather than attempt to decipher the daytime dress code, and save for trips to the gym or the pool, I'm just going to err on the side of cargo pants and short-sleeved Oxfords or polos until 6 pm.

I am in my early 30's and am taking full advantage of this trip to channel my inner Audrey Hepburn in my style of dress. Even less reason to be worried about being overdressed on the Fashion cruise. Have a wonderful time !

We four are easy to decipher. We are four hard-working professional women who are reduced to acting like school girls due to our excitement about this vacation.

As for you, Bell Boy, we are very excited to meet someone with such vast Cunard cruising experience, and who already has been so kind to us. We want to learn more about you on the cruise, if you are willing. After all, since we are leaving our significant others at home, you are our only Prince Charming/dancing partner. (Not to worry. Do you like old movies set on ships? I just watched one you might enjoy: "Romance on the High Seas", from 1948. The fashions were so glamorous and so flattering.

Are you able to post any pictures, when you return? I'm sure we would love to see them.

Travis is a QM2 regular. He doesn't like flying as he was involved in an air crash in the past.

Hi Sailing Sara. What I wear during the day on QM2 depends on where I'm going and what I'm doing (chapel? casino? library? Kings Court? Britannia? Walking the deck? Swimming in the pool? )

Nobody knows where your going, or what you have done unless your bathing suit is dripping wet :D - so I say:

wear whatever you feel comfortable wearing, and have a great time!

I had actually asked a very similar question prior to my first crossing a few years ago on QM2 (around the same age as you too :)!)I too am a dress/skirt kinda of gal. Over time on my QM2 sailings/Crossings I have worn dresses or skirts everyday except for maybe five days out of the whole bunch. (not sundresses as the weather has always been too cold on my sailings for that particular garment) As mentioned above you will see all types of attire, but you certainly will not look out of place smartly dressed in a dress :) I hope you have a wonderful time!

Cargo pants Ugh! Why is it that men have managed very nicely for decades with 4 pockets in their nether-wear but now walk about looking as though they have either had an embarrassing accident or are imitating a bumble bee who has had a busy day foraging?

depending on the weather and the age of the cruisers- from shorts to jeans- from wellington boots to Arctic like jackets - mostly from those who stride around the decks in the worst weather.:cool:

I prefer cargo pants when traveling internationally because a) they're much easier to wash and dry than jeans and b) in addition to my usual wallet and phone, I can also carry my passport (which I keep on me at all times when abroad) and a Kindle on my person without also having to carry a bag.

I'll keep your secret, but I'm fairly certain that there are fashionable cargo pants and Capri pants for women, in addition to other accoutrements which allows women to carry their own ID and cell phone.:cool:
