Did you enjoy oasis or harmony ? I can't chose!

You will enjoy either one, as they are very similar. I have been on both of them.

Harmony is newer, and the Balcony stateroom prices seem to be a little higher in cost when compared to the Oasis. With a limited budget, I would let price be the deciding factor. Also, western Caribbean sailings are often less than the eastern Caribbean sailings.

I would recommend going in to see a "cruise specialist" a TA who knows the various cruise lines. Ask friends, family members who they have used in the past and liked. Go with in desired dates, an idea of budget. The agent can book your cruise w/o any charges (just make sure to ask if there's any cancellation or change charges....a good TA won't charge these). You can book your flight for at least a day ahead to make sure there's no problems with weather, etc. and then you'll be able to relax after you get to your embarkation city.

Don't tell to schedule out every moment on board or in port. Go on the website for the cruise line you have chosen and read up on the FAQs and any other info.

My husband and I began by identifying a couple of ports of call we wanted to visit. Then, we contacted a travel agency that specialized in cruises and told them our wishes. Our agent there created a summary for us of various cruise lines and ships, given the time we wanted to go and the ports we wanted to see. Seeing the cruises side by side that way, to compare length of cruise, price, other ports, etc, helped us to decide what we wanted to do. And it was easier than having to visit multiple cruise line websites and make lists of offerings.

We're from Canada too and just booked our 1st cruise for December as well.(techinally 2nd, but that was 10 years ago and a 3 night cruise. We booked the Cruise line and ship that best suited our budget, dates, things the ship had to offer, and itinerary. We're cruising on the Carnival Vista on Dec.16. Can't wait!! Good luck!

One thing, for a first cruise, I would pick a cruise that has a mix of port days and sea days. And see what you prefer.

I LIKE sea days. Port days are nice, but I at least want a balance.

You can also book out of Baltimore, MD on Carnival or Royal. We just did a 9 night on Royal that had 4 sea days (all day at sea), and 3 ports (first port was late arrival, depart next day: second and third were arrive and depart same day).

We're also Canucks & the Dec flights are a killer!! We now always sail out of NYC or NJ - both about a six to seven hour drive. We stay overnight at hotel in NJ where you can park for free & they shuttle you to port. Saves us about $1,000 each on airfare!!

  • 3 weeks later...

Going on your first cruise.... wonderful....One thing we did, was goes to a TA we knew that others were happy with, and asked what do you think would be our best first cruise......... After an hour plus of discussion... it was decided...... for us it was 13 nights ( with 6 sea days ) time to enjoy the ship... with an older passenger group....in a nice cabin with a view

One thing is go with open mind and enjoy it........ Our TA nailed it, so much so we are doing a same cruise again....... and we can't wait....

So read lots on CC talk to your TA. and go on a cruise... it is the only way to find out it cruising is for you..

Cheers Don

Such fun planning a first cruise. We started with an interior cabin on a 5 day cruise to see if we liked it..... and we do! Personally I would consider a 7 day with a mix of ports and a couple sea days. Also don't feel you need to plan every moment on the ship or buy excursions at every port. Our favorite line is RCCL but we have had great experiences on each cruise.
