No, your ship board credit will show up only once you are on board.

That is why it is sometimes called On Board Credit;)

It will be a credit on your ship account. It can be used for optional excusions, beverage packages or other drinks beyond wine /beer at lunch and dinner, spa treatments or in the shops.

It also cannot be used for the gratuity.

Moreover, in the advanced sale phase, you cannot put a tour into your shopping cart and then expect to pay for it on board. Anything in the shopping cart is not yours until you have checked out and paid for it. There is no holding a tour in your cart while you make up your mind. Plus, advance sale closes two weeks before sailing and the shopping cart info is not transferred to the ship's shorex system.

That is really awful. We are long time Crystal cruisers, and Crystal does not charge for an excursion until shortly before it departs, and you can always use your on board credit to pay for excursions. This Viking policy will encourage us to make alternate excursion arrangements, which are usually much less expensive, too.

Q

It's hard to beat Crystal in so many areas of service. We too are booked on a b/b on Viking and don't expect it to come close to Crystal. Our suite on Viking, however, will be much larger although with NO butler.

You can do this on Viking as well, just not in advance of boarding. Book your included excursions ahead to get your favorite time slot and once on board, book your nonincluded excursions. Pay with shipboard credit or cc.
