Looking for mostly shaded tours or excursions from Nawilwili, Lahaina, and Hilo for hiking through forests, rain forests, and for bird watching. Will be cruising April of 2018.

On Kauai we are taking the Princess Waterfalls and Tropical Garden tour.

From Hilo, try the National Tropical Botanical Gardens. It's almost all shaded very tropical plant cover, beautiful waterfalls. The trail is steep in some places, but there are improved walkways and, if necessary, they can send a golf cart to bring you back up the hill if you can't make it on your own. Great scenery and photo opportunities. You can easily get there yourself by rental car, or there should be tours available. Make sure to take drinking water and mosquito repellant.

Looked up the NTBG's and they are on Kauai the Hawaiian Tropical Botanical Gardens are on the Big Island and they do look like they have enough shade for me, but photography of birds could be difficult with little light. We do have the HTBG's high on or list now. Tx

Sorry about that! We've been to both several times and got the 2 mixed up. The Kauai gardens, at least on our last visit about 3 years ago, had more open, sunny areas than there are at HTBG. If you do go to HTBG, you might combine it with a visit to Akaka Falls. We've read that they lost quite a few trees due to storm damage last fall, so there might be more open areas now than there used to be. It's a short trail from the parking lot, but the falls are beautiful.
