Carnival Fascination-Jeans

Can my husband get away with wearing black jeans that are not faded or ripped for formal night? He hates to dress up! He will wear a black/dark polo shirt with the jeans. Is that acceptable? Or will the maitre'd turn us away?

He will be fine. In fact slightly overdressed in my world.

As a great man once said "I will have a diablo sandwich and a Dr. pepper"

Do you always have to have the last word? Bless your heart...

Hey Pork, my old friend! Imagine meeting you here. You aren't getting all serious on me, are you? I'll tell you what. You reply to this response in whatever way you wish and I'll ignore it. That way you get the last word. How 'bout dat?:D

It is very funny to read some of these posts that assume all men have khakis as part of their wardrobe??

I didn't realize it was a requirement for every USA male??

I guess so!

At his old job, DH wore khakis every day as part of his uniform and now he wears black Docker-type pants every day. The last thing he wants to do on vacation is wear khakis or Docker style pants though he will sometimes.

I think you may be misleading the OP a bit, as it DOES happen, not every time, maybe not even most of the time, but the possibility of being turned away is real.

We have actually cruised on Fascination and men did wear dark jeans (in good condition) to the MDR on Elegant Nights. ;)

I'm not doubting that a bit. I've seen lots of sub-code clothing that made it past the maître'd. I was just giving the OP a heads up that folks do sometimes get turned away. Is it likely they will make it in? Yes. Is it 100% guaranteed? No.

Khakis is somewhat of a generic term. It's actually a color. There are also Khaki shorts. So in those terms, yes everyman probably has a tan pair of slacks. Dockers could be called Khakis as well

Definition of khaki

  1. 1a : a khaki-colored cloth made usually of cotton or wool and used especially for military uniformsb : a garment of this cloth; especially : a military uniform —usually used in plural
  2. 2 : a light yellowish brown

Just my opinion here, and I am one who wears a Tux; Your husband should be fine. I would seriously doubt he would be turned away. Dressing in dark colors appears more "dressy" than khakis. I suspect your husband will be more comfortable in his jeans, as that is what he is accustomed to. Therefore, he will exude an air of confidence vs being ill at ease in something he is not use to. I say go for it. Enjoy.

My DH got some black cotton slacks - like black "khackies" with a good shirt they look like dress slacks but are comfortable.

I don't know about anyone else but in warm weather I prefer lightweight cotton slacks to heavy jeans :D

You know I think the same thing any time someone asks about jeans because they "want to be comfortable" or don't want "to dress up." Just me, I guess, but I find jeans uncomfortable - unless you're talking about Pajama Jeans [emoji12]. And they make "dress pants" now too.

Sometimes comfort is more about confidence than actual comfort. Jeans look better on me than slacks, which makes me feel better. However, I only wear jeans that actually fit me so I don't feel uncomfortable wearing them.

Anyway, people go way too far on these dress code threads. The question was if they would be turned away. The answer is that there's a 99% chance that it will be no problem. Unless you're wearing a shirt that says "look at me I'm wearing jeans!!!" Most people won't notice.

They actually have t shirts printed with a tuxedo shirt that would go quite well!

I'm so amused at how some of you nosy nellys think the way someone else dresses is going to change the taste of your food. I personally, dress up for dinner every night but the first. That being said, I'm not up in arms and thumbing my nose at anyone else in the dining room and how they choose to dress, however tacky it may be. Have some more chocolate melting cake and lighten up.

I've cruised with someone that wore what we refer to as a "Texas Tuxedo" on formal night. Nice blue jeans, boots, a button down shirt and sport coat and nobody blinked an eye. OP will be just fine.

12 years ago, I would have said "yes, he would be turned away." But, after some of the things I've seen pass for proper attire on formal night during our last two cruises, I'd say you can pretty much do whatever you want.

Not everyone wants to buy new clothes for a 1-2 hour dinner...

Not to get flamed, but this response cracks me up. You're going to drop at least a couple grand on a cruise, but can't afford a $20 - $30 pair of slacks?

Where am I wrong in my thinking?

Here's something that, while technically is rule-worthy of formal night, is downright tacky and was seen on a few men during formal night. But, to each their own I guess.

LOL I've actually seen this outfit on a guy on my cruise this past March and thought it was awesome! I actually took a pic with him in the casino too! It's "Florida Formal" lol (I'm from south Florida and so was the guy wearing it ;p)

There were a trio wearing them on our Vista cruise. I really didn't mind them, save for the fact that they were loud and trying to get everyone to notice what they were wearing. I guess I like my formal night a little less frat-party'esque.

A polo shirt has a collar, right? I guess that type of shirt, not a t-shirt, with nice jeans would suffice.

I agree khaki pants would be better, but men can really be stubborn.

The Texas Tuxedo, sounds great. A nice sports coat makes anything look classy.

Being frugal all year long is the only reason we are able to afford cruising in the first place. I don't drop $30 on crap I don't need, because I want to be able to save that for more important things. In the same way, we don't spend $2 on a soda at a restaurant, we use coupons at the grocery store, etc etc. Every dollar counts.
