Hubby won $380 (net) at BJ on RCI Explorer.....the ONLY time either of us have won anything..and we do make use of the casinos....but ship casinos are NOTHING like Vegas....let me tell you!

Consider it "entertainment" and don't expect to win a penny!

About 4 years ago on the Crown Princess...$500 in the slot tournament.

I've come in second place 3 times, does that count for anything?

Actually our last time on the Freedom in March I won somewhere around $500 at the roulette table, and $1200 at craps. My wife won close to $350 at roulette.:D

On this cruise we had free drinks coming at us the whole cruise and we weren't playing high stakes. We just made alot of friends and had alot of fun with everyone.:D

Over the cruises I have been on, I feel like I am slightly ahead of the house. I have won as much as 1100.00 on the slots or a few hundred on Let it Ride or 3 card poker. For me its about making new friends at the tables.

And that right there make a cruise. Gambling is entertainment and making friends and money (maybe) just makes it better.:D

I think thats why they have my time/your time/anytime dining. You meet people that you mesh with in the casino and now you can have a meal together. I met an older couple from Boca that I spent most of the cruise with at the casino and dinner during a cruise. Can't wait to see them again this year.

How does that work out since your winnings aren't on a slot machine. Is there a record of your cashing in chips at the window over a certain amount? Obviously I never cashed in a lot of chips at the cage. LOL But I have won over $3,000 on a slot machine on the Carnival Triumph. And yes I had to claim that amount on my taxes, but I also made sure I had a win/loss statement to go with it.

Of course. like every year I keep a diary of every gambling session, Game played, time started and ended and wins or losses at each table. This has satisfied the IRS for years . And yes, I declared on my customs form that I was bringing more than $10,000 into the U.S.. Customs officer got a kick out of that.

How many times has the IRS asked to see the diary?

Wow!

What a royal pain.

Not really a problem. Anyone who gambles on a regular basis should keep a diary. If you ever hit a Big slot jackpot or have a big run at the tables you'll need proof of your losses to off-set the winnings.

Anytime you cash in more than $2500 in chips at one time at land based casinos there is a form filled out, more than $10,000 in a day another form(SARP). There's a warehouse in Washington full of these forms, so I don't worry about it.

From my understanding, there is not a hard rule as to what amount of cashed in chips triggers a higher level of record keeping - it varies by casino (at least in the lower 4 digit range). Granted, if you are around/over $10,000/day they will start a paper trail - CTR© which is a Currency Transaction Report by Casino. That should not to be confused with an SAR© (Suspicious Activity Report by Casino). Those are fairly well explained in the link provided.

I have cashed in over the $10,000 mark (Blackjack) on ships a few times, and I don't recall any paperwork. :)

Back to the OT - my best was $24,000 on a 3 night cruise.

For this last year, I am happy (sad!) to report that my losses cancelled out my winnings... thus the happy part is no extra tax, the sad part is that I lost. Bittersweet, LOL!

I've never had to fill out a form of any kind
