absolutely yes

I have agonized and analyzed the cheers program for my last three cruises. This year we decided to use Allstate gift card to get a ten percent discount so the cheers program only cost us 720. We had broken even on the third day of our cruise. It was a lot of fun to try drinks we never had before higher end liquors and enjoyed many specialty coffees.

Having two specialty coffees two pops and many bottles of water along with champagne before dinner wine with dinner and an after dinner drink easily paid for the program. we usually went to the alchemy bar in the afternoon before dinner and the steakhouse bar in the evening for some high-end specially liquors .

We tipped the bartenders cash and made great friends and they made us great drinks

If you are on the glory. Tell yulia in the alchemy bar hello and ask for denis in the golden restaurant along with tuty at the coffee bar. Ananaya moved to the freedom. Tell them rileys family says hello

Glad you enjoyed it and your trip! My husband and I purchased Cheers for our Alaskan cruise this past June and definitely thought it was worth it even though we aren't heavy drinkers and it was a very port intensive (and early port days) cruise. :)

I never drank more than 6 (maybe 7) alcoholic drinks and my husband averaged about the same but we LOVED hanging in the Alchemy Bar every night before dinner and then at least one drink after dinner there. Also, it was great to get a nice glass of wine with dinner nightly and ,boy, did we hit up the coffee bar multiple times a day with being on a cold weather cruise. Loved those alcoholic coffee drinks or getting a latte than heading to the bar for a Bailey's or Rumchata shot.

OP

After agonizing and analyzing you got what most people miss.

1) Try new drinks

2) You don't need to drink 15 to break even

3) You didn't worry about it going to S &S card.

Nice to hear another person enjoyed it!

Our experience was that the Alchemy bar was fun but we really liked the Steakhouse bar if you want to try classic cocktails.

I also tried a couple of drinks that I didn't like so I just didn't drink them.

Our MDR waiter was a great source for trying new things. He really knew his liquor. Discovered that adding just a splash of sprite to scotch makes it taste so much better if you don't care for scotch. He turned us on to a good champagne and I think by the end of the trip we had emptied the ship of it.

What was the brand of champagne that you fell in love with so we can try it.

It is well worth it in my opinion, not solely due to the financial aspect but from the value it adds to my vacation by freeing up worries about budget. If I want something, from specialty coffee in the morning, milkshakes after lunch and all drinks throughout the day can be enjoyed with no concern over budget.

Hi iggyc, this is exactly how I felt about getting cheers on my cruise last September. I felt that it was worth it then, and am glad I did so, because now, (for health reasons), I might, and only just might have one drink a day, ie wine with dinner, so it will never be worth it for me again. Getting old sucks ! But glad I got it when I could still enjoy.:)

I just wish there was a Cheers! Lite program. You know...Half the drinks for half the cost?

That would be PERFECT for our level of drinking.

Me too. Why not offer 3/4 day Cheers cards, or punch cards. Not everyone wants or can drink all that flavoured coffee, milkshakes, booze etc for 7 days in a row.

If 6 drinks is the breakeven point for Cheers!, we'll never reach that, nor would we want to. But, my wife loves the coffee drinks and each of us would have no problem with having a few drinks a day, if 3 - 4 drinks were the breakeven for a smaller package.

Plus it would allow us the opportunity to try something else we might not have opportunity to.

For the kind of imbibing we do, I can't justify $800 - $1000 more on a cruise just to drink more. Our bar bill is typically $200 for a 7 night cruise.

I wish they'd do what MSC does (or did, dunno if they still have it with the changes to the drink programs)--they have these "coupon" books with 18 vouchers and it worked out to like $4.something/drink. And you could use it for coffees/gelatos/etc. (although they had a coffee cuddler coupon book as well that was better for the coffees). Although having to carry around the coupons was slightly inconvenient (would be nice if it was on your account and the system would just "deduct" it).

Still debating about if I'll do the cheers on our 2019 cruise.

I usually like 2 mimosas with breakfast.

If we're on a sea day I'll have at least 2 drinks in the afternoon and a drink and a cappucino in the evening. We only drink water, so pop/soda isn't an issue.

If it's on a port day, then skip the afternoon drinks as we're usually out on excursions.

I think I figured it out and it seems we'll be better off without the Cheers program given a 7-night cruise with 3 port days (not counting Galveston), as I think you'd have to drink 6 drinks/day just to break even.

That would be great for us too. Hubby and I will probably only drink 3-4 alcoholic drinks a day, maximum. Even less on port days. We don't drink sodas or juices or specialty coffees, so none of that is relevant to us.

Hubby and I are moderate drinkers and really debated getting the Cheers! package. In the end, I agree that it was also worth it. We broke even each day, not necessarily because they were booze filled, but also coffee, Powerade, water, soda and milkshake filled. I do agree that it alleviates any budget concerns as well.

If you are a moderate liquor drinker, absolutely it's worth it. I like to try and experiment with new drinks, and Cheers allows you to do so without worrying what to do if you hate something you ordered! I loved having it on my last Carnival cruise and sadly won't be doing it onboard the Magic in a few weeks. My dad ends up drinking for free in the casino and DB isn't coming this trip.
