I was looking for a forum on TUI cruises, but I could not find it. It is a long established cruise line and one of the few who is sailing at the moment. It might be of interest for cruisers to know about the experiences made while cruising during COVID?

I don't have any inside knowledge, and I'm not trying to be comprehensive – but I do know of two personnel appointments by Ritz Carlton that bode very well for the line. (1) Philip Herbert has moved from Azamara to be Hotel Director for Ritz Carlton – he was much loved at Azamara and should do a great job of staffing and establishing standards for Ritz Carlton. [This is confirmed] (2) Captain Magnus Davidson has also left Azamara, and the rumor is that he is also joining Ritz Carlton. He was also much loved, and posters have mentioned how well he and Philip worked together.

We have a Vantage cruise tour booked on the new Ocean Explorer in late October. While I think it is realistic that ships will be sailing by then, my question concerns whether the ship will be ready to sail. Cruises were offered in January, but we all know that they won’t sail—perhaps until late summer.

How does one find out if the ship is ready to sail? I am always hesitant to book the maiden cruise or even the second as there are bugs to work out. It was being built by a shipbuilder in China. Is there any way to find out if the ship is finished and ready to go when the CDC clears ships to cruise.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I have yet to take a river cruise on any of the river boats and know only what I researched for our June 2020 cancelled trip. I know even less about Emerald Waterways.

	1. In these crazy times, how has Emerald dealt with all the cancellations?

If there's a cruise that we can sail, you can bet that Cruise Critic will find a way to be on it.

Here's our first report from last week's sailing on Stephen Taber, a 22-passenger schooner that does three-to-six night cruises out of Rockland, Maine. The captain instituted some pretty strict health and safety protocols. The ship is one of two that he owns, and they are the only cruise ships (to our knowledge) sailing in the U.S. right now.

The ship is apparently the MV Narrative which looks like it is being refurbished from another vessel, rather than a new build. Does anyone have any verified and certain information about the Clive Palmer’s project to build a replica of the Titanic? This controversial project has already been pushed back so many times. In the Internet you can find news that the project is not canceled, and the ship will enter into service in 2022. However, there are no official statements from the Blue Star Line and there is no contact with the company. It all looks suspicious. If the ship is supposed to be ready in 2022, the construction would probably already be in progress, right?

Croatiaweek reports as of April 24, 2020 the 3. Maj dockyard in Zagreb has started work on Eclipse II, for Scenic. This ship is the first new ship to be built at the dockyard after four years. According to the article the laying of the keel, which I believe was previously to have been in late March of this year will instead be at the beginning of this summer with the Scenic Group planning to buyild an additional four MORE polar cruise ships in the 3. Maj dockyard with a contract value of 860 million Euros. www.croatiaweek.com is the source of this information but it is especially good news for those cruisers booking cruises in 2022...wonder where the maiden voyage will begin and how, with two ships at sea, Scenic will deploy them--maybe some circumnavigations of Australia, New Zealand and Japan?? Inquiring minds are spinning! Three cheers for some good news in these challenging times.

As already known, the German Tui Cruises, a subsidiary of RCCL is the first large cruise line back at sea. Their two ships Mein Schiff 1 and Mein Schiff 2 offer short panoramic voyages from Germany to Norway without getting off in any port. Unfortunately, it turns out that the interest is not that great as expected. I found out that on the 4-day trip from Kiel to Oslo, which started last Monday, there are only about 1,000 passengers on board. Normally, the ship could take about 3,000, and after reducing the capacity due to the situation, they could take 60% of that, so almost 1,800 passengers.
I know that in the case of huge cruise ships the break even point is achieved even with only 30-40% occupancy, but is Mein Schiff 1 one of those ships? With only about 30% occupancy on this trip, will Tui Cruises be able to cover the cost at all? Especially since there is no additional income from shore excursions and shuttle services, and I suppose that on such a short cruise people do not have enough time to use many extra paid attractions on board either.
