At the moment, P&O have extended their pause in cruises to 24th April 2021. My cruise on Britannia is supposed to be sailing on 25th April. part of me whnts them to cancel, but the other part of me still wants it to go ahead. My problem at the moment, is that I really don't want to book and pay for travel insurance, car parking or 'Forced' excursions. Basically, because I don't know whether I would get any money back from all of these if the cruise gets cancelled. I would also prefer to be able to do my own thing when docking in the various ports. Clearly this is not possible at the moment with all the retrictions in the various countries. My question to everyone is:

Does P&O announce extensions to the pause in cruises at a certain time in each month or is it just a case of wait and see?

	Hi everyone,

I have (... well, had 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️) two one week cruises booked - one with Royal leaving 7th May and then one with P&O leaving 15th May both from Southampton. Now obviously due to the announcement this evening, I will not be able to go on either of these, but is there any chance whatsoever that the ship might still sail (with passengers who have flown to the UK and then cruise out of it)? I suppose what I’m asking is, is there a possibility that I might be refused a refund of my deposit because the ship is still sailing? Or do you think ships will be prevented from sailing out of British ports - until after 17th May? Any help would be appreciated - thanks 😀

Following on from discussions on various threads the following information on International Travel is in the government roadmap document released today. As so much depends on what the rest of the world is doing it doesn't look hopeful for Summer cruises.

 International travel

The Government’s objective is to see a safe and sustainable return to international travel, for business and pleasure. When it is safe to do so the UK will again be the destination of choice for international visitors from around the world. In the short- term, the Government will continue to protect the vaccine rollout and mitigate against the risk posed by imported variants.

Vaccinations could offer a route to that safe and sustainable return. Once more is known about the evidence of vaccines on transmission and their efficacy against new variants, the Government can look to introduce a system to allow vaccinated individuals to travel more freely internationally.

The UK is working with other countries who have started similar programmes, to lead global efforts to adopt a clear international framework with standards that provide consistency for passengers and industry alike. The Government will make this a reality through ongoing work with the World Health Organisation and other multilateral organisations, the UK’s presidency of the G7 this year, and by working with other international partners.

However, any such system will take time to implement. It will be heavily dependent on improved scientific understanding about the role vaccination plays in reducing transmission. Introducing such a system also needs to be fair and not unduly disadvantage people who have yet to be offered - or gain access to - a vaccine. That being the case, the Government does not expect this solution to be available quickly, and restrictions like those in place across the world are likely to continue for the near future.

The Government recognises that international travel and tourism bring many economic and other benefits to communities across the UK. The aviation sector in the UK drives large direct exports and is a critical enabler of wider UK trade and economic activity. It facilitates around £95 billion of the UK’s non-EU trade exports,72 directly contributes £22 billion to the UK economy73 and supports half a million jobs. International travel is particularly important in gateway cities and underpins the competitiveness and global reach of the UK’s national and regional economies, supporting jobs in hospitality, in retail and in our world class museums, theatres and visitor attractions. It is also the case that global restrictions have hit airlines, airports, cruise and travel operators particularly hard. The resumption of safe travel will be particularly important for these businesses.

Therefore, the Government is keen to find ways to work closely with the industry to ease restrictions on international travel gradually and sustainably.

The Department for Transport will lead a successor to the Global Travel Taskforce, with an ambition to develop a framework that can facilitate greater inbound and outbound travel as soon as the time is right, while still managing the risk from imported cases and variants. This will look to take a risk-based approach, making use of thesuite of measures the Government already has in place such as testing and isolation and the recommendations from the first Global Travel Taskforce last year.

The Taskforce will report to the Prime Minister and work with UK representatives of the travel sector, including airlines and airports. It will report on 12 April, with recommendations aimed at facilitating a return to international travel as soon as is possible, while still managing risk from imported cases and Variants of Concern. Following that, the Government will determine when international travel should resume, which will be no earlier than Step 3. The decision on when international travel can resume will be dependent on the global and domestic epidemiological picture, the prevalence and location of any Variants of Concern, the progress of vaccine rollouts here and abroad, and what more the Government has learned about the efficacy of vaccines on variants, and the impact on transmission, hospitalisation and deaths.

In addition, the Global Travel Taskforce run last year committed the Government to publish a Tourism Recovery Plan in support of the sector. The Government intends to set out proposals in the spring, including plans for a world class marketing campaign to welcome back visitors to the UK as soon as it is safe to do so.

Restrictions on international travel will need to remain in place for the moment. However, following the Taskforce’s report in April, the Government will take a decision on when these can be removed, which will be no earlier than Step 3 (17 May). This decision will be dependent on the global and domestic epidemiological picture, the prevalence and location of any Variants of Concern, the progress of vaccine rollouts here and abroad, and what more we have learned about the efficacy of vaccines on variants, and the impact on transmission, hospitalisation and deaths.

Is the FCC amount just reallocated back to the customers account (100%), or is "additional FCC" applied to the amount, meaning that 125% is put in the customers account (if the cruise was booked using FCC and cancelled by P&O)?

A hypothetical question right now I know, but is it possible that P&O (which serve a predominately UK based clientele) may consider resuming cruises round all or part of Britain only assuming sufficient UK Gov Covid 19 protocol's are in place by the early summer? What I could envisage is that some ships, especially Iona which is scheduled to undertake one week cruises to Norway, could, if it is not possible to meet the requirements of the Norwegian Government at that time, instead visit some UK ports, where presumably guests could go ashore and wouldn't be travelling outside the UK at all. Probably wouldn't make for the ideal cruise holiday, but after well over a year of going nowhere anything would be better than nothing IMHO.

I just saw on P&O's website that they are making few changes on their cruises due to the pandemic which I guess is fair enough.

However the one that is sticking out for me is that they will not allow passengers to get off the cruise ship in ports unless they are booked on one of P&O approved excursions!!!

What I like most about cruises is being able to get off the ship and explore and get lost in the cities on my own. Not only will I not be able to do what I want on the cruise but they will charge me a premium to have to go on excursions which I have no interest in!

My cruise is booked for November 2021 and if this new rule is still applicable I will be cancelling.

We are currently working on a new programme that will be available including options at a lower price and available to purchase via My P&O Cruises eight weeks prior to departure. The new programme and additional options will ensure that we have options available for all guests to travel ashore.

Arcadia was due a dry dock in March in Cadiz. I thought it would come under lock down, but Celebrity Infinity is there , with a Carnival ship alongside.

The drydock is very important for hull inspection. Will hull inspections be waived?

As you know, I'm keeping an eye on our little fleet of ships and a couple of unusual movements occurring.

One for the locals this. Aurora will be calling at Portsmouth International Port tomorrow from about 0930 to 1600. This is a curious movement.

Arcadia, is currently not scheduled to return to Southampton following her call tomorrow. This is a concerning movement. I know where she is apparently heading on departure from Southampton but have no confirmed if anything has changed since last week. Update as soon as I can.

Britannia has had a late call introduced for Saturday and is unusually calling a berth 38/39. I'm thinking this is a first for Britannia who has usually always called at Berth 46 or 106 as she is 330m long and the berth is only 360m.
