For those who are interested but have not found the little tab on the Star Clippers site. This is updated by the company as of February 2, 2021.

Governmental legislation/regulations regarding restarting cruise ship operations internationally will still take more time to finalize and implement. Star Clippers is working on the protocols necessary to restart our sailing cruises and a summary of these will be published on our website prior to the ships resuming service.

Therefore, Royal Clipper saildates are cancelled until 1st May 2021

We've been thinking about trying the Royal Clipper for a few years and have decided to take a leap in Jan 2022 with the Windward Islands route. We look forward to sailing and a more relaxed intimate atmosphere that seems to be offered.

I'm looking for pre and post cruise hotel recommendations. They offer two nights at the Accra Hotel, is this a good idea or do you book independently and take a cab to the port? We will likely stay a few days prior and maybe a week following.

Hi everyone. Just paid the final balance for Venice - Rome cruise, leaving 5th September 2020. Must say, I was ( and still am) very doubtful that this cruise will go ahead, but was advised to pay up in full, in order to get a full refund if the cruise is then cancelled. (If I cancel my booking now, I lose the deposit and flight costs).
Just wondered if there are others out there hoping to go on this cruise. Not sure if we are actually looking forward to it now. If there are social distancing measures and compulsory masks etc. It will be a very different trip to the one we had hoped for, but ...fingers crossed.

Like everyone else, we are sitting at home "dreaming" about our next cruise. While I am not about to put down money with ANYONE (that may or may not exist if things dont open up in the near future) I am certainly not above looking at future itineraries and "making tentative " plans.

Taking advantage of an amazing deal to make our tall ship dreams come true. Seriously, go check out the prices for next year on their website if you haven't already. We're doing the Star Flyer Treasure Islands Jan 16 2021 itinerary, stateroom 300. We've been briefly to St Maarten on a HAL cruise in December and look forward to going back. We've never been to any of the other islands on this itinerary. Yes, we know about how very different this will be from a regular cruise and that's the appeal. I've read about as much as I can find but the over-planner in me still has questions.

Does anyone know where the Star Flyer docks in St Maarten? The main cruise terminal or ... ?

We like to cash tip our bar tenders generously (even on HAL where it's on top of a beverage service fee). Would it be rude to tip at the bar in US dollars? We can bring euros if the staff would prefer that. I'm hoping they wouldn't mind getting US cash on a Caribbean itinerary.

Any accommodations recommendations that aren't the Holland House? We're familiar with it and it's beach front location. I see no reason to spend $400+ per night. We don't mind being further out and less fancy/lacking a view as long there's at least a double bed, a private bathroom, and within a reasonable taxi ride of the airport and port.

Normally we book our own private excursions, but with this cruise line's non-standard timing I'd rather not bother. So I'd love some clues about what types of excursions Star Clippers tends to do in the Caribbean and what prices are like. How many digits should I brace myself for per tour? I don't know if we're talking under a hundred euros or over a thousand or somewhere in between. I know I'll need to wait until onboard to see what they have available for us.

I'm pretty sure we charge excursions and alcoholic drinks at the bar/dinner to our room. Is that right? Any other worthwhile upcharges or paid services we should be budgeting for?

I will be travelling with my daughter from Phuket to Singapore (7 nights) in just over two weeks.
I wonder if any of you could help with a couple of questions?
This will be the first time on a clipper and in this part of the world, although I was born in Singapore. Some of the locations are a little remote and for obvious reasons we would need currency. Can you get currency on board? If not how much would be recommended to take of which currency? I understand we would need Thai Baht and Malaysian ringgit.
With regard to evening dining on the boat what is the etiquette in relation to seating? Do you get designated a table or do you just sit down where you like? Does everyone turn up for one sitting?

Any tips of what to do on any of the ports of call would be appreciated - it would be especially interesting to hear from someone who has done this itinerary - thank you in anticipation!

Just booked our cabin! It's still more than a year and a half out, but more time for anticipation, right? Actually we wanted to go this fall (as it is our 30th anniversary), but by the time we got around to it all the cruises were sold out. So I started looking for ones for 2020 and as soon as I saw them posted I called, but even they were almost full. Anyway, this will be our first time on Star Clippers and we're excited. Would love to hear from any fellow passengers who might be out there. Advice from prior passengers also very welcomed!

OK, for all those "more experienced" with the Star Clipper Med sailings, I have a question. If we are interested in either a 7 or 14 day Med cruise that maximises the number of "smaller" ports, (Please read here, ports WITHOUT any large cruise ships to contend with) which itenerary would you choose? We are just fed up with masses of humanity, crowds, (and diamond shops!)

Looking at this as well as back to back Greek Island cruises for Spring 2021. Any comments, pros or negatives? We would do this OR the Greek Islands--not both. We like low key travels. No big crowds, no shopping, lots of sea/nature, small local places to enjoy wine/small meals, walking around taking pictures, etc. Have been to Piraeus, Santorini, Mykonos, and Kusadasi before. Have also had a 6 hour visit to Valleta, but way too short. We would come in for 3 nights before the cruise to explore this island and it's history.

First, I apologize. I haven't time to read all the reviews to find answers as I am trying to take advantage of a very good sail with Star Clippers at the moment; and time may be of the essence.

I haven't cruised for a while, and certainly not at this size or luxury level.

I am a solo cruiser and looking to see the islands. Some feel for the islands is great, but there is also the strong draw for snorkeling and ocean time (not just lolling on a beach). I also have some sailing experience, so don't mind putting my hand to trimming the sails or working the wheel.

The Grenadines route appeals the most as does the RCs Class 6 room over the Star size ships, but open for all if the smaller ones might fit better..

Is there a different feel between the 2 size ships? Similar clientele, or are the folks on the smaller ships are they more 'hands on' as intimated on the promo videos?

Is anything included in the price? i.e. wine with dinner, or shore excursions?

As a solo traveler, is it possible to eat alone on those nights one is just too tired to chat? Part of the desire to sail is for rejuvenation, not 'all about the ports', or fellow cruisers (blame it on the introversion). I don't want to be a pariah, but sometimes just need my own time and it doesn't look like there are dining options outside the dining room.

Thanks for feedback to help me choose the ship.

The current Royal Clipper voyage (3 Aug) started disastrously

Due to sail from Cannes, every passenger arrived to discover that the ship had gone to Savona, Italy.

We understand that a dispute concerning the Flying Clipper construction has led to the French authorities threatening to seize our vessel if it enters French waters.

Thus our itinerary has been changed: several destinations dropped in Corsica and we will end in Monaco rather than Cannes.

So, instead of a relaxed boarding at 4pm, we found ourselves being bussed to Savona, 3 hrs away. There, we found that the ship was still at sea. We finally got to our cabin at 8 pm (luggage a bit later). Many passengers arrived later.

Pretty fed up, we went to dinner. This was interrupted by a lifeboat drill at 10pm. Plates of half eaten dishes were left as we stood around, fuming and sweating.

We now have to rearrange our departure arrangements. Today, we hear a few words of regret that we had been inconvenienced, but it is pretty clear that the comfort of passengers is low in the priorities of Star Clippers.

We hope that the company’s financial arrangements do not lead to any further changes before the end of our week. Obviously, this line is not going to appear in our future travel plans!

I only just came across Star Clippers while I was researching Windstar, and I'm contemplating either an Eastern Mediterranean or Southern Caribbean cruise on Star Flyer. From the YouTube videos I've seen, the experience looks like something my wife & I would enjoy, but in perusing the reviews here on CruiseCritic, it seems like nearly half of them contain complaints about rude or disinterested staff, poor communication, or disorganized planning at the ports. It's hard to judge from the reviews, because there aren't a lot of them, and only a few of them are recent. I really don't mean to sound like I'm trolling, but should I lower my expectations if I book a Clipper cruise? There just isn't a lot of information to go on.
