	Hello
</p>

<p>
	I have a two part question.
</p>

<p>
	1, Is it best to buy the cruise line insurance?
</p>

<p>
	2. If not the cruise line insurance which is the best policy for the best price?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Thank you in advance

	Someone posted on the Celebrity forum that there is a new travel policy now. Didn't mention what the changes are. Does anyone have that information, please? I formerly had a hard copy of RCI's insurance, and I have kept a printable copy of Celebrity's policy on line for reference.

	Has anyone ever claimed on a cancel for any reason policy? This isn't a cruise-related trip, but until I can do that again we are planning a land vacation and I'm hoping someone can share their experiences with me...just in case.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	We are planning on booking a beach house in September. My husband's job is essential and if the state where the beach house is on our state's no-go list, we will need to cancel the trip even if we are healthy. However, no regular insurance policies cover things like this -- I've already checked.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	We live in New York and this state does not allow cancel any reason insurance policies. My parents, who are traveling with us to the beach house, live in Pennsylvania. They are allowed to buy cancel any reason policies. If we have them book the beach house and we end up not going because of Covid restrictions, what kind of information will we need in order to make the claim? Can we just say..."not going!" and get our money back after filling out some basic paperwork?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I know filling out a regular claim is mountains of paperwork, doctor's notes and other official documents that need to be filled out (been there, done that -- twice). How does it work for cancel any reason?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	And does anyone know if certain credit cards will offer this type of travel insurance?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Thanks and here's hoping we're back to safe cruising soon!

	Some of you might recall previous posts about GeoBlue coverage for COVID.  I just talked to the GeoBlue folks, this morning, and want to offer an update.  Keep in mid that GeoBlue (part of the Blue Cross/BS Network) is licensed for sale in most States (there are a couple of exceptions) and is only travel medical and medical evacuation coverage.  If you want cancellation or interruption coverage you need to look elsehere.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	GeoBlue primarily offers two kinds of policies, and annual trip medical plan (usually called "Trekker") and individual trip plans (usually called "Voyager").  The annual plans DO NOT currently include coverage for COVID (or other pandemics).  But their individual Voyager Plans do INCLUDE coverage for illness due to COVID which makes these plans attractive for some travelers.  However, although GeoBlue does cover COVID (under Voyager Plans) they exclude trip evacuation related to COVID!  This latter issue is why I called them today and they did confirm that their Voyager Plans do not cover evacuation for COVID cases.  One very nice thing about their Voyager Plans is that you can choose your coverage amount (up to $1 million) and deductible (ranging from $0 to $500).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	So, if this is medical evacuation issue is a problem what to do?  Medjetassist (a highly rated medical evacuation program) does include Medical Evacuation for COVID from a handful of countries (including most of the Caribbean and Mexico).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I should add that another option for those seeking medical coverage for COVID is a plan offered by Atlas International.   While their plans do cover medical evacuation for COVID my issue with them is that their coverage limitations for older folks is very limited (i.e. maximum might be $100,000 or medical).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I will again sound a personal warning about medical insurance maximums.  Most of the policies offered by the cruise lines have relatively low maximums (often $10,000 or perhaps $25,000).  While this might seem adequate we think it is wholly INADEQUATE unless folks have other medical insurance.  In this new COVID world one can easily run up far more then $100,000 in medical bills with a bad case of COVID (i.e. hospitalization in ICU with ventilator).  I remain outspoken about medical limits and think that $100,000 is a reasonable starting point to consider for coverage.   Always remember that your personal liability for medical costs is unlimited and medical costs are still the #1 cause of personal bankruptcy in the USA.
</p>

	Can someone share their knowledge and opinion of travel insurance. In the past I havent worried about having it.   I have heard so many if, ands, or buts about it that I'm confused.  Of all the policies I look at  there doesnt seem to be much coverage for medical and medical evacuation.  My Medicare Supplement covers a certain amount of medical, with a $250 deductible.  The policies I've seen dont add much to what I have.  I could pay for routine issues like a small injury. Medical evacuation is the costly part. If I was seriously ill I would want to be transported home when I was stable. My daughter was flown from her home to a regional hospital, about a 1 hr flight and it cost close to $100,000 (yes,her health insurance covered it)   I'm 70 yrs old, World Nomads wont even cover me.   I dont have to pay the rest of my ticket until September. I think we might have an idea how the pandemic recover is going. I'm booked for 1/3/22.  My nonrefundable  deposit was $241 and I am willing to risk that.   I am even willing to risk the entire fare (about $2,000) if there are many exclusions to the policy.  But the medical side is a worry.  I checked my credit cards and they do have trip cancellation insurance as long as you paid with that card (which I would have)  I've already waited too long to include pre-existing conditions on a travel policy (and I have a few conditions but nothing super serious)  Help, please!

	I've always been amazed at how many people travel without insurance and assume it won't happen to them.  I guess those people will just go merrily along until something happens to them.   For those of who worry about things like emergency evacuation, or being hospitalized in a remote location I'm wondering if you have new requirements when shopping for insurance for your next cruise vacation.

<p>
	I'd like to also point out that there is a special Q&amp;A going on for Cruise insurance on CC hosted by Steve Dasseos of TripInsuranceStore.com.  Steve routinely monitors the CC Insurance board and is very helpful.   Disclaimer - I don't have any affiliation with Steve or his company and have never been a customer although I probably will be when I return to cruising.

<p>
	Doesn't look like Canada will have us all vaccinated until Sept/Oct this year and even with that, only adults and kids, so I am not hopeful on going.

</p>

<p>
	Let's say the cruises start again in the US, but there's a rule that we cannot travel without vaccinations, now what? Especaily, if kids are not part of the vaccination group?

<p>
	Right now, they don't allow for us to drive to the US, only fly. I think the US wants a covid negative test to get in and Canada wants one to get back.

<p>
	Do you think our trip cancellation insurance would cover?

	I booked cruises and made deposits for cruises in Oct 2022 and Jan 2023. Each a 14 day cruise. I didn't want to have to pay for travel insurance so far in advance. But I like to get insurance to cover pre-existing conditions. Are there any insurance I can purchase at final payment? And how much more expensive will they be because I didn't purchase when I paid my deposit?

	It has struck me, that maybe in the future, Insurance companies make ask in their health questionnaire, if the vaccine has been administered.

	Maybe a reduction if you have been vaccinated?

	So we just booked a southern Caribbean cruise in 2022 RT from Ft Lauderdale completely paid for by cruise credits from a previously cancelled cruise which expire April 30 of 2022.  I expect the only prepaid cash for the booking will be port fees and taxes.  Post expenses are the usual tips, excursions, and restaurant charges.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Our flights will be purchased with Chase points.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	My wife is a 2 time Kidney Transplant patient and is currently doing well.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	So the question is what is the appropriate insurance in this situation.  Do we just get Medical insurance?  If we pay off the cruise with a Chase Sapphire card which was just downgraded to Preferred but can be upgraded back to reserve before final payment.  Is that adequate for the medical?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Is there a scenario where we would get money back for the cruise credits if we had to cancel early for medical or other reasons that would justify a more comprehensive plan?

	<font style="color:#333333;">Royal Caribbean and AON (insurance carrier) will not refund the full cost of a cancelled <span>cruise</span>, although written proof of a terminal illness that I am currently undergoing my 3rd round of treatment for was provided. COVID-19 began spreading in Florida the first week of March 2020 and Royal Caribbean's March 13 blog noted they were cancelling all <span>cruises</span> for 30 days (<a href="https://www.clickorlando.com/news/local/2020/03/20/timeline-the-spread-of-coronavirus-in-florida/" rel="external nofollow">https://www.clickorlando.com/news/local/2020/03/20/timeline-the-spread-of-coronavirus-in-florida/</a>). Three days later, due to my compromised immune system; I cancelled my <span>cruise</span> on The Oasis of the Seas, set to sail on April 12, 2020. Despite Governor Ron DeSantis' coronavirus stay-at-home order of April 1 (<a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/04/01/coronavirus-florida-desantis" rel="external nofollow">https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/04/01/coronavirus-florida-desantis</a>) and Royal Caribbean's March 13 cancellation of its <span>cruises</span>, I have received no refund. I've repeatedly contacted Royal Caribbean and AON, via telephone and email. I've provided all of the requested forms correctly completed by medical personnel; listing terminal diagnosis, course of treatment, and reason(s) to not travel during coronavirus. Now AON wants my medical records, which I will not authorize.  Royal Caribbean was paid in full for a service that they cancelled.  AON just strings you along.  Customer is SOL.</font>

	Wife and I are heading on a Mediterranean Cruise out of Italy next June.   We booked the cruise through Costo and airfare separate through Delta and didn't purchase and trip insurance at the time of booking.   Our biggest concerns on travel are the potential COVID travel restrictions that may still be in place next summer, primarily the following:   1)  We live in the US but are flying in/out of Toronto and are worried that Canada won't let us cross the border  and 2)  Italy won't allow travelers from the US to enter their country.  I called Travel Guard (who Costco uses for Trip insurance) and asked for a quote but found out that they wouldn't cover either of those situations.   If we had purchased the travel insurance up to 21 days after booking the cruise and flight, we could have purchased the "cancel for any reason" police through them...but now it's too late.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Has anyone had a similar situation with Travel Insurance and are there any reputable companies where we can use a policy based on travel limitations out of the US?   Any assistance is appreciated.

	I have a $500 credit from a Royal Caribbean claim that was issued April 2020 with a year to use it.  I currently have it applied to a December sailing.  My TA was told that if I cancel the certificate will be issued with the old expiration date which does not seem fair since they already have not sailed for 6 months of the one year it is valid for.

	We had a family cruise scheduled for April 5 which was canceled by RCCL. We requested a refund of our payments to RCCL, rather than take the FCC that was offered.  We had also purchased 3 insurance policies through TravelSafe (Trip Insurance Store).  When the cruise was canceled, we immediately contacted TravelSafe and asked for refunds of our policies.  We received a request for confirmation of receiving the refund from RCCL.  It took almost 4 weeks to receive the monies credited back to our credit cards, but when we received the refund, we forwarded the proof to the insurance company.  We have now all received the refunds for our policies from TravelSafe..

Thankful I've got it but would like to have a bit more coverage.<span class="ipsEmoji">🤔</span>

Some readers, however, are learning the hard way that some insurance providers are no longer interested in covering their cruise vacations from unexpected interruptions and cancellations.

	We get trip insurance to protect ourselves in case the cruise lines go under as a result of coronavirus.  But if a few of the big players don't make it, and the travel industry in general takes a turn for the worse, will the insurance companies themselves be ok?

	Hi there.  I mentioned this topic within another thread but thought maybe it deserved it's own.  Was wondering what your opinions are about trip insurance, especially independently purchased.  Has anyone ever had to actually make a claim?  With all this trip shuffling lately, we are also dragging around insurance policies (and dollars), or at least will have a voucher to use on something not booked yet.  Your input is appreciated, as always.

	On the main Celebrity board someone mentioned this.  In my prior research a few months ago I was surprised to learn the Medjet wouldn't transport anybody with an infectious disease.  This was important to me as it appears that the cruise lines are planning on disembarking people with covid for isolation, treatment if symptomatic and maybe even quarantine if test positive or in contact with someone who tests positive.   This is my opinion based on what I've been reading and not really the point.   My point is that having this type of coverage is important to me as I don't want to spend a length hospital stay on a Caribbean island.

	I didn't see anything on this board regarding this change so thought I'd post.    Now if GeoBlue annual plan would cover Covid treatment I'd be good to go when I feel comfortable with the risk.
