I am looking for a packing list app. Preferably it would allow me to share between Windows 10 and android. What I want to do is enter/refine the list on my PC and then have that same list show up on my android when I am doing the actual packing.

	Suggestions?

I'm sure there must be (several?) GPS apps for use with a phone while on board (or anywhere else for that matter).

Can anyone recommend anything, particularly something that is independent of the ship's own communications system, please?

We will be sailing the Alaska coast next year and I thought something like this would help with identifying passing glaciers/mountains (ships!).

Something that gives more than just longitude and latitude, but just that, and a good map, would certainly be a good start.

Any experienced mariners out there, who can share their experience of such software?

I read recently that some cruise lines will be discontinung use of the Key Card and going with Smart Phone technology as a way for passengers to access staterooms, shopping and dining, etc. What about those of us who do not own Smart Phones, have no intention of buying one, and hold to the opinion that

Was talking to a couple and cruise cell phone coverage came up. They claim they had their inexpensive cell phone on airplane mode for their entire cruise. Despite not making any calls on the islands, they got hit with $10 per day calling charges(AT&T plan for international calling). They asked for an explanation and was told that inexpensive cell phones can still receive data despite being in airplane mode. So they had to pay the $10 fee per shore day despite not using the phone.

We have inexpensive cell phones. We want to have the cell phone coverage only for emergencies, so we signed up for the AT&T $10 per day international plan (fee only charged if you use the phone).

We had planned to use our cell phone in airplane mode for Medallion app purposes. We called AT&T and they said some phones do access data despite being in airplane mode which would trigger charges. Sounds funny to me. Has anyone heard of this?

It will cover us on board and also on the islands we are visiting. Just curious though as to how it works if you are on the ship while in port? I know it only works in International waters so they shut it down before you get to port then you are covered on the island. What happens if you don't get off the ship? Are you covered as if you were "on the island." Haven't been able to find the info and ATT reps keep giving different answers.:confused:

We traveled on NCL Joy June 2019 and were able to communicate on board between other iOS devices. What we did was turn cellular mode off. Leave Wifi on, login to ship network with NCL app to get on ships wifi network. Its free for NCL app updates like schedule. After that, we were able to send and receive iMessages through the ships network without having to use the NCL app. Not sure if the feature still works but if you're traveling on NCL, lets keep this thread updated whether it works or not. Works great if your travel group has iPhones or iPads.

This is cruising related because it deals with RCCL and their affiliates who use Air2Sea or Choice Air

Choiceair.com doesn't work for me. It never connects IF I'M USING XFINITY/COMCAST AS MY ISP.

If I disconnect from Xfinity as my ISP and use my T-Mobile cellular data service or connect to my Skyroam mobile wifi, I can connect to Choiceair.

Here some other stuff I've narrowed down.

Air2Sea/Choice Air really rolls over the CruisingPower.com. If I go to CruisingPower on their secure site (https) I can get there. (However, this is a secure login site for TA's. Not for general purpose). If I go to the UNSECURE CruisingPower (http) website, I cannot connect if using the Xfinity isp.

Browser selection makes no difference. IE, Chrome, Firefox, Safari. No difference

I know it's not my cache, it's not my Windows defender firewall, it's not my Norton,,,, it's not computer dependent. It's 99.999% isp dependent. people who use Spectrum, Cox, Charter, and other isp's indicate they can connect.

Does anyone know what terminology I could use to get Xfinity to understand and own the problem?

Again, it does not matter what platform I use, if I use Xfinity as my isp, I cannot connect. Any other isp and I can connect.

	Problem:

I know for a fact that I put my iPhone in Airplane mode and then connected to the ships wifi. Go about my business. An hour later, look at my phone and I'm roaming on the ships cellular network. WTH!, put my phone back into Airplane mode. No further problems.

Later on that day, my wife looks at her phone, exact same thing.

That evening at dinner, my BIL tells me over dinner about his Galaxy phone somehow automatically switching back to cellular roaming sometime during the day.

I am interested in hearing from members who have used the Skyroam Hotspot while cruising. I have been researching it today and have read very mixed reviews - some glowing and some dreadful.

Usually I take my own MiFi device and international sim cards with me but end up getting very frustrated when they don't work. I understand that none of these options work while out at sea and that we need to be in range of phone towers. I am thinking the Skyroam looks like a simpler option. One thing I do have trouble with is sending emails when overseas with other sim cards - I wonder how the Skyroam compares?

I am only looking for data - do not need to make phone calls or send texts. Australian telco prices and roaming plans are exorbitant so this is not an option. We don't use the internet a lot while away but do want to have access for sending emails, researching ports, uploading some photos to Facebook etc, so please don't suggest leaving the phone off - it is also not an option. I don't like using free WiFi except as a last resort and ship's internet is also exorbitant.

	Any information gratefully received!

First time cruiser and I’m a little confused about using my phone for calls and texts. I was told to put my phone in airplane mode and enable WiFi calling as soon as I get on the ship in Bayonne NJ. I would be able to make calls and texts as usual because I am purchasing an internet package from Royal Caribbean, as long as I am on the ship. Would I still have to purchase an international plan from Verizon also or as long as I call from the ship, it will be fine and I won’t be charged extra for calls or texts? (my Verizon plan is unlimited calls and texts). I am going to the Bahamas and may have to call home a couple of times to check in on things. TIA

	Hi!

I have read all the recommendations of putting your cellphone to airplane mode while on a cruise, to avoid expensive roaming charges. However, is this true also for Europe? Within the European Union roaming fees have been removed, so basically you have more or less the same cellphone plan as in your home country no matter where you are. My experience of travelling by ship so far is that out on the open sea there is no phone coverage, but when I am close enough to land my phone connects to the cellphone network in that country, and I can use my phone again.

Will this be different on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean somehow?
