I will be in a Penthouse Junior Suite on an upcoming cruise. Description of this cabin says there is "Complimentary laundry, dry cleaning, pressing & shoe shine services" but nowhere can I find that they provide specific information. Their Live Chat seems to be pretty busy so I thought I'd try CC. Thanks.

As it does seem wise to book very early just wanted to ask a couple of questions in a new thread about room choice before doing so. Like the look of PV but tempted by Junior Suite although about $3000 more each (AUD) . Looks like a bigger room obviously and some earlier access to bookings and confirmed reservations. Perhaps the biggest attraction is laundry service:) As a newbie not sure how difficult access to laundries on board are or whether the extra guaranteed dinner reservations and early access justify the expense of almost $200 extra each day? I know at end of day these are personal choices but would appreciate feedback from experienced cruisers on these points. As will likely settle on the PV option I assume PV1 is the preferred choice given it is more expensive ?

We are taking our first ocean cruise ever with Viking. I know absolutely nothing about ocean cruising and cabin selection in particular. We are looking at Deck 5 towards the bow but I thought it was always better to be as low as possible and towards the center. But, the lifts are in the center and we don't want to be near them.

Please share any insight or thoughts you have. Thank you.

I should have added that our cruise is in the Mediterranean.

I have been trying to get to Italy since 2001. This is my 4th try. The viking Ocean cruise around Italy has been cancelled twice so far. We are now scheduled to cruise on 9/16/2022. I was looking at the included excursion while in Rome - and it states that it is a 9 hour tour. It mentions the coliseum, but not sure if it is a "drive by", or do you actually go inside? But I also noticed that you can purchase an excursion that does go INTO the Coliseum.

	Here are my questions.

	1. Is it worth it to go INTO the Coliseum, or is it enough just to see it from the outside?

	2. Has anyone taken the INCLUDED Rome excursion through Viking, and how was it?

	3. Do the Viking excursions (both the included and the extra) include "skip the line"?

thank you very much. So looking forward to this cruise

I must admit that I reached a stage in the last few months when I did not even want to think about cruising, let alone make any detailed plans. There was no end in sight and it was impossible to imagine ever enjoying time on the ships in the way we had.

The very positive recent news regarding the vaccines has gone a long way to changing my mind though and I wonder how many of you are now feeling more optimistic too?

Of course, it is sad that we have had planned cruises cancelled but, at last, I feel DW and I can look forward to the trips we have booked to replace them. To illustrate this here is a couple of lines we hatched up together during a long, socially distanced walk along an isolated coastline. (With apologies to John Masefield!)

For anyone that has done the Homelands or Russia and the Baltic routes with an overnight in Stockholm.... could you give me a quick review of what the included Stockholm excursion was like? We are trying to plan our precruise days in Stockholm and didn’t want to waste time doing something that would be included later. I am assuming it is a mostly coach tour around the city but didn’t know. Did you go through any museums or the Royal Palace?

Have taken a Viking River Cruise from Basel to Amsterdam during Christmas Market time and had a great experience. Now my lovely wife and I a looking forward to Chasing the Northern Lights with Viking Ocean. We know that it is a little more expensive but the perks seem to make it worth it.

We do not use the casino or drink, so the drink package is not something we would use in either cruise.

We are seasoned cruisers having something like 20 or more cruises with various line (Sitmar, Princess, Norwegian, Celebrity to name a few), but have stayed mainly with Princess. So we are wondering, is there really a comparison between Princess and Viking?

This thread is for discussion of all-things Viking Expeditions, a new division that complements Oceans and Rivers.

Viking initially plans two ships for Expeditions: the Viking Octantis and the Viking Polaris. These ships will have immersive itineraries in Antarctica, the north polar regions, the Great Lakes and Canada. Each ship will carry up to 378 passengers, have rafts that are boarded inside on the hanger deck, and will even have a submersible.

The Inaugural Sailing of the Viking Octantis is January 13, 2022 from Ushuaia, Argentina. However, the journey begins in Buenos Aires on January 12, the date for the cruise listed online and the brochure. The ship is named after Octantis, the South Star, as the Viking Polaris is named for the North Star.

Got our official notice from Viking that our April Trade Routes of the Middle Ages ocean cruise has been cancelled. All cruises through May 31, 2021 have been cancelled. They are offering the same 125% to rebook on top of the previous 125% if you rebooked in 2020, which we did. However, we are “jumping ship” and asking for a full refund. Things are just too iffy and they have already had our $$ for over a year. No matter how many safety procedures Viking installs, we’re just not willing to gamble. Plus most European countries are still experiencing severe illness/death.

Viking announced in early December of cancellations through March 31, 2021. Italy is closed until April 30 as of this moment. I suspect that Viking has not yet announced an extension of cancellations as they want to provide a realistic date for resumption of cruises. I am certain that our Venice to Istanbul cruise for April 18 will be cancelled and at this point we are waiting for the cancellation and 125% voucher versus just rescheduling.

When our March 22 cruise was cancelled, we decided to take the 125% and use it towards a 2023 cruise we booked in September. The plan was to add an extension, and save the remaining money (about $700) for excursions and possibly tips. When the vouchers were applied, there was a small deficit left (almost $300) which was subtracted from our $1,000 deposit - as we planned. What we didn’t know is that Viking doesn’t hold the $700 - they refunded it to the payment source of the deposit. Nice surprise as we’re not limited to use it for our 2023 cruise as we thought.

Working through the detail I noticed that, in addition to the date from which speciality restaurant reservations may be placed, a date for reservations in The Restaurant. This caused me to look at the My Journey area on the website and I see that there is a button for the Restaurant in the section for speciality bookings (obviously, these buttons don't work yet).

Chinese water torture is a painful process in which cold water is slowly dripped onto the scalp, forehead or face for a prolonged period of time allegedly making the restrained victim insane....

I'm not blaming Viking for this but at my age you have to wonder when is it time to move on???

Looking at my Viking book, my wife made reservations for Northern Lights trip on Sept. 16 2019 for a Feb 25, 2021 cruise. My guess is we paid the full amount some time in early 2020. We had been on several Viking cruises and we were really looking forward to this trip. My wife died in July 2020. I called Viking and got my Son in Law on this trip, and my daughter on a Feb 2022 trip. Both were both excited.... drip drip drip..

Feb 2021 comes around Trip #1 canceled. My SIL had already requested vacation time but we were not surprised about the trip being canceled..The virus is out of control. Still will save up his vacation time. Called Viking and the agent tells me come August things should be ok. Scheduled Viking homeland. SIL all excited. Gets his vacation scheduled. Since Feb. this... year.... drip drip drip.

Now we are hearing another round of canceled cruises. Didn't quite make it to August this time but probably the next go round August will be in it. From now till June or next cancelation? drip drip drip. The prepaid money that I have put into the trip would have done much better in the stock market. If I am understanding you can only get the 25% deal once and I don't think it is worth much... we can't cruise till....Maybe 2022 or 2023? Should I reschedule a cruise if August is canceled and wait until some time in 2022.... drip drip drip...

Not blaming Viking. My prepaid money would have done much better in the stock market and I would not have gone through this torture of waiting to see when my trip is canceled and rebooking and waiting to see if my next trip is canceled.... drip drip drip. I think at this point if August is canceled I'm done.
