I always have so many photos from just a week or two trip and now we are thinking of doing a longer one. How do you manage your photos? I suppose I could periodically upload to my Shutterfly account but that could be really slow going on a ship.

I mostly use my cell phone camera (unless i really want to zoom in) --it's easier and quicker to upload to Shutterfly or Instagram.

A while ago, tommui987 asked me about MacPhun's Luminar software as a Photoshop competitor and at the time it was only available for Mac. I looked at it's feature set and was interested but the fact that it could only be used on 4%-5% of PC made me wary of their path forward. They were developing a Windows beta but I was happy enough with Lightroom and PS to walk away with a wait-and-see note in the back of my mind.

Well, here we are a few months later and the beta is officially over in a week or so. MacPhun is on borrowed time as they are officially changing their name to Skylum and a full version for Windows is dropping into the mainstream. I took a second look and decided that they are serious about the product and have used the resistance to subscription programs to fuel enthusiasm for what appears to be a increasingly sophisticated product. Add the fact that the new Luminar can be used as a Lightroom plug-in and their intention to launch a Lightroom-like organizational tool in 2018 and I decided to plunk down my $60 and give it a try.

So, here I am, taking one for Team Cruise Critic and will be posting my impressions and opinions of the package as I dive into it.

I wonder how shipboard photos may look like. Consider wearing a mask for much of the week on the Lido deck. Laying out on a deck chair. Soaking up the sun. Then posing for that memorable formal dinner night photo with the ships Captain.

Maybe pics like this will be the new normal?

Sadly, I had to buy a car recently and can't quite justify the $6500 ticket price. Though I must say the price seems reasonable considering the specs on this beast. "Reasonable" for a pro that needs this much horsepower. Not for a happy hobbyist like me who wishes to maintain marital bliss.

	Afternoon,

Wife and I are booked for a cruise on the Viking Venus in February 2022 entitled In Search of the Northern Lights. So what I am wondering is if anyone has suggestions for:

	1) Packing suggestions for the winter time conditions in Norway during our ports of call up the coast to above the Arctic Circle and for just walking around the overnight ports of call.

	2) For the photographers of the Cruise Critic group, suggestions as to taking the best photos. I have a remote shutter release for my three Nikons but looking for other suggestions as well as reference material that I might peruse or get off line to review.

	3) Any other suggestions for clothing to pack for onboard the cruise ship.

Thanks and if anyone is also going on that cruise, let me know and maybe compare notes.

My wife and I have photo albums of every land and sea cruise we have been on ,60 total.

Do most people keep albums forever or just a little while ?

I have three Sony cameras, all of which use the same Lithium battery, NP-FW50. I also have several chargers, so the batteries are being charged when they are not in the cameras. My question is this: sometimes I go for several weeks to a month without taking photos, particularly during long periods of inclement weather. During these periods of time, should I leave the batteries in the cameras, or remove them? I know that alkaline batteries should be removed during periods of inactivity, since they can corrode the terminals in the camera, but I am not sure about leaving Lithium batteries in the camera.

Adapting another thread, if you have a DSLR and wanted a new lens to make your Alaska shots the best you can make them, what lens would you get. I already have a zoom and the 18/135 kit lens. How much wider would you go?

Just an FYI for my friends here on the CC boards. I have posted here for years and most of my posts for the last several of those years are linked to my Zenfolio account. Recently, I have started transforming my pptphoto.com site and adding my galleries there using a Java-based album builder. My Zenfolio account was up for renewal this month and I am far enough along on the project that I decided to pull the plug and terminate my account. This means that except for the most recent photos all the links are severed.

The revamped site is still at pptphoto.com and the galleries are being added as I have time. The album builder is very easy to use and I should have everything back online within a month or so. Of course none of the old links will work but I suspect that if I hadn't said anything, nobody would have noticed. 😉 Not a lot of people take the time to scroll back through years of posts.

Here's to looking forward to a happier future!

First week of 2021! Things are still rough and most of the problems that spawned in 2020 will continue into 2021 for a while. At least there is some light at the end of the tunnel and we can reasonably predict that it isn't an oncoming train. Cruising should resume and getting out and about will be easier before too long. Until then, I personally intend to make it a point to take more pictures of things that make me smile. Photography has always been a form of therapy for me. Trying to find interesting compositions and subjects takes my attention off the harsher things that surround us. Not in a delusional, all-I-see-is-unicorns-pooping-rainbows way, but rather an attempt to find and capture the beauty in the world that is so often overlooked. I realize I am preaching to the choir here since this is a photography thread, so I challenge all of you to take some time this year and encourage friends and family to join you in capturing happy images and sharing them. Maybe you can bring a smile to a face in need of one...or even save a life.

We like most today have all our pics on everything but old school paper . I saw that Walmart was only .09 per pic. and went for it half today and the rest tomorrow . I worry about losing all these pics from Europe and Caribbean cruises. it is a lot of pics from 12 years of travel but I think it is a great Personal gift (Mrs. Dolittle is hard to buy for) .It may end up costing a lot even at .09 per but worth it . I got her a couple of albums too .Anyone else buying anything cruise related for Christmas.
