There is a cruise ship that is a floating condominium - each cabin is privately owned. Anybody know what the ship has been doing the last 10 months?

I have worked for 2 major cruise lines Royal Caribbean and Disney cruise lines. I have been the broadcast manager for each of the company's. I was looking for information about the person/position that is responsible for the broadcast station (tv station, satellites, onboard media, on demand tv, etc) as I would like to apply for this position with the world. Would anyone happen to have any information on this position broadcast manager/ tv operator ?

Hi everyone-

We live near the Port of Charleston, and I noticed that The World will be docked here for 2 days in October. I would LOVE to tour the ship, but I don't know if that is allowed to respect the owner's privacy.

We would love to be residents on this ship, but we are way too far from retirement to do so anytime soon. But a long term goal if its possible.

Does anyone know if they do tours? Is there a minimum salary requirement just to do a tour? Background check, give up your first born, etc? :)

Hi All,

Just got back from a one-week RSSC Diamond cruise. We met two Virtuoso Travel Agents onboard who spent four days on the World before joining our ship in Istanbul. They were extremely impressed and we thought we might like to try it.

Then, at breakfast one day, we met a couple from England who mentioned the extremely negative press the ship received in their country. Apparently a number of owners are unhappy that the ship takes passengers on short-term cruises, feeling that it downgrades the level of the ship.

So, that's my question. For those of you who have sailed before, did you feel welcome or did you feel like you were being discriminated against because you were not an owner of a unit?

Thanks!

Kathy

We have been on over 150 cruises around the world and are curious about traveling on the ResidenSea. Can someone explain the following to us:

-How do you "rent" an apartment on board

-how expensive is it; a range from least to most expensive

- what does this include

- how short or long can this cruise be

Thank you.

Hi

I am trying to make contact with the World ship (or a handling company in Florida) but cannot find an email address. They only offer a postal address which is not ideal as I am based in Australia.

Can anyone help?

Does anyone know where to find the day-to-day itinerary for The World? I can see that the ship will be near me this month (Denmark) and I hoped to catch a glimpse.

I actually saw a ship yesterday outside Helsingør that I thought might be The World, but can see the current position is Riga so must have been another.

Once I purchase a 1 bedroom, I know I have the annual maintenance fee. Other then that, what does one have to pay for? Dinners at the restaurant? Drinks both non alcoholic and alcoholic? Use of the gym? The toys offered once at a port?

Excursions at ports I assume I pay.

Is it like purchasing a home? Any service/meal normal living experience to survive the same?

According to MarineTraffic.com, The World has been in Cadiz for over a week, and from the satellite view it looks like she's in a drydock facility. Anyone know if this was a scheduled stop for refurbishment, or did she encounter some trouble? Her itinerary shows Cadiz for March, not April.

Thanks to their leisurely schedule -- they're not scheduled to be in Hamburg until May -- she's not too far behind schedule (if at all), but I've never seen them stay this long in one port.

Two or three years ago I was contacted by some salesman in Miami about a brand new residential cruise ship due to be built, backed by an upmarket hotel chain, Four Seasons, I think.

They had a very elaborate brochure and website, and the salesman was very anxious to relieve me of a deposit for an apartment. I told him to come back to me when the ship was built.

As I have not heard from him, I presume she was never built, and was probably a victim of the credit crunch.

Any idea of the name of the vessel, and what would have happened to my deposit?
