Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. If you are at Mahogany Bay, right at the port there is a Crafters Market type place. The items were expensive though, but they had some beautiful things made of wood, also lots of other things...

    DIY Chankanaab

We are just back. We took a taxi to Chankanaab. It was very nice. We sat under palapas and went snorkeling. It isn't the best but not bad for snorkeling, you do have to go down stairs into the water. We enjoyed it there. We also went to the free Sea lion show , it was cute!
  3. We just got back. I liked the port area, there is lots of shopping, a pool, a place you can swim with dolphins, but what we did was there is a Bird Sanctuary(Aviarius) near the middle. It was nice and is only $14. It's a little tricky to find, ask around. You walk up some stairs and over some bridges, also over the dolphins.
  4. There are no guarantee's. Also depending on how many ships are near port that day. We just got back and there were 4 ships that day. The tenders were a real problem. We made it to our tour, partly because they try to wait for you, but it took so long to leave the ship and get on a tender and then coming back we stood an hour & a half in the heat to get back on a tender to get back to the ship! I hate to say it, but if it is not a ship excursion and if there are a lot of ships, I would not got to shore! JMHO
  5. Viator is refunding our money... Good to know they are looking after it.
  6. We went on Jan.7th get there early, we were there around 9:30, still had to stand inline outside, but were among the first to go in and check in was so easy with the medallion and were on the ship by 10:30.

    Is Roatan safe?

We were on tours when we were there. We felt safe, but I don't think I would wander around in some of the areas alone. Take a reputable tour. We did one with our ship and one with Victor Bodden. We really like Roatan, but there is a lot of poverty...
  8. Yes we were just there, USD is excepted
  9. I'm glad you had a better experience with Belize cruise excursions. I wondered if there were other companies, we booked through Viator, who booked Splash Wave. Now Trip Adviser (Viator) says they will not publish my review! They say it doesn't meet their requirements, but will not say why. Viator says they are looking into it. It looks like V & T A are connected...
  10. We were just there on the Regal Princess. We waited a long time on the ship to get off. In Port there were line ups so long and for 4 ships...it took an hour & a half in the heat to wait for a tender back. We went to Goff's Caye, which is a beautiful little island, but we went with Splash Wave Tours and it was so unorganized and a lot of waiting again in the heat. The snorkeling really wasn't worth all the waiting in lines in the heat! IMHO Snorkeling in Roatan was better...
  11. The problem is if there are too many ships in port, there are long lines to wait in the heat!!!
  12. We are back from our trip. We went through Viator with Splash Wave Tours. They were very unorganized. We were told to sit and wait in the heat for at least a half hour then we were put in a boat, the windows were covered and it was like an oven and sat there for about 45 min. waiting for 2 people. The guides looked like they didn't want to be there. The Captain was nice and we saw him talk to some of the people, but the 2 women where not friendly. When we got to Goff's Caye, it is a beautiful little island. We asked about a guide for snorkeling, but the woman told us she didn't want to go in the water unless there were enough people... We went on our own. It was ok, but not as good as we had thought it would be. Not to do with Splash Wave Tours , there were 4 ships in port and the tenders were so unoranagized that it took a long time to get on one from the ship and when we got back, we waited in line for an hour & a half in the heat!!! I would not go to shore in Belize again if there are more ships in port like that and I would NOT go with Splash Wave Tours! I don't like to give bad reviews, but they need to change how they treat their guests. To Us it was not worth it...
  13. we were just there. We stayed in Galveston for 2 days before our cruise. We thought it would be nice to explore Galveston. However it is hard to get transportation there. Especially to the port. If you are flying in to Houston. The hotels are much cheaper and it is easier to get transportation from Houston. We did it from Houston one other time and it was so much easier. Now if you are Driving to Galveston that would be different. It is still hard to get transportation to the port. Taxi's are not always available. At least that is what we have heard. We took a trolley around Galveston, but we didn't really find a lot that we wanted to do. Accommodations are very expensive. It wasn't worth it to us.
  14. We were disappointed. We were told we would be picked up at 10am. At 8:55am we had a call from the driver saying he would be there in 5 min!!! We were not really ready, but had to scrabble and get down to the lobby and did catch him. Other than that we got there, but Dwayne had told us 10am and to only have 5 min to change course was not nice! Plus we ended up sharing a van, which we didn't mind, but had also been told it would just be us. I would not stay in Galveston again. I would stay in Houston and get transportation from there.
  15. We are taking the Princess tour to the Space Centre after and they look after the luggage and take you to the IAH after. You would still have some time to waste but not as much...
