Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. We booked our own flights to Vancouver, originally arriving one day ahead of cruise. Two weeks before the trip we decided to extend it to two nights and we’re so glad we did. (Airlines are pretty flexible these days and we only had to pay the relatively small fare difference). P Vancouver is a fabulous city and we so enjoyed the extra time there. We booked a 12:30 pm return trip, walked off with our luggage and had plenty of time before boarding.
  2. A few days before our inside passage sailing I found an $11 puff vest at Costco. It was by far the most utilized article of clothing I brought. It seemed to me to be a very popular vest that so many folks had, made me wonder if every one got theirs at Costco too. Right before heading to dinner one eve I got something on my dressy top and had to put water on it. Threw on my silver puff vest and it looked pretty cool. The vest was the most versatile: One day I wore it over a hoodie and another under my jacket and it perfectly did the job when worn with over acotton turtleneck layered with a long sleeved T-shirt.
  3. En route to Vancouver and realized if all things we left the pouch with chargers at home. Can someone familiar with this ship let me know if there are USB ports on the Zuiderdam ? If not I’ll pick up charging cords and power blocks when we arrive in Vancouver. Staying in a regular veranda if that matters.
  4. Just looked at Tamarinds menu and love that suggestion
  5. Thanks all. Love the suggestion @Hlitner to dine late, which is typically how we roll at home anyway, so that should flow easy for us, And I can appreciate the the story you shared. And totally agree with booking a veranda @jeff74. Simply looking forward to off the grid days on the balcony, a cocktail and some room service too. The excursion we booked was promoted as “limited small group “. Otherwise I think there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor hiking in Alaska. i suppose I should have expected my honesty to have evoked at least one response to say avoid a cruise vacation and we almost did. But I think it’s going to be a great trip, just a little different.
  6. Still having post covid large group anxiety. Not debilitating but enough to want to avoid crowds. Looking for timing and dining suggestions in less crowded areas/times. Inside passage Zuiderdam.
  7. Here is the Skagway schedule updated 8/5:22 https://www.skagway.org/sites/default/files/fileattachments/skagway_visitor_department/page/33137/aug_5_2022_update_skagway_cruise_ship_schedule.pdf
  8. When I checked out the cruise booking section on HALs website it seems that only the 8/31 itinerary has been changed and listed separately from all other Zuiderdam Inside Passage sailings. Selective Operational Issues??
  9. Same here for same cruise later this month and we rebooked Whales & Mendenhall Glacier Photo Safari: Small-Group Experience
  10. Thanks for letting me know - so disappointed 😞
  11. Just received this notification Due to the Operational reasons, the Zuiderdam itinerary has been modified. The call to Tracy Arm Inlet on September 2nd has been removed and the estimated time of arrival to Juneau, has been changed from 1 PM to 2 PM. We already had booked the Tracy Arm Inlet excursion that leaves from the Zuiderdam - hope this is not cancelled too.
  12. I am confused. We will be sailing to Alaska from Vancouver. After seeing this post I rechecked my documentation on the HA website which read as follows: CRUISE ONLY TESTING REQUIREMENTS Guests who are up to date with their vaccines or fully vaccinated may take their COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours prior to sailing or a medically observed antigen test within 2 days before sailing.
  13. From Holland America: Please be advised that the COVID-19 testing policy for traveling to the United States has been updated. We are pleased to share that if you are traveling to the U.S. after your cruise, a negative COVID-19 test is no longer required for air travel into the U.S. from international destinations."
