Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. If you look closely at certain parts of the ship, the Quantum class was designed for a new Celebrity class ship in mind but then switched over to Royal. When Quantum class first came out they had dynamic dining where you had 4 different dining rooms to choose from, similar to what you see now on the Edge class for Celebrity. The indoor pool has the same structure as the solariums on Celebrity. The shops walkway going towards the music hall and theater on deck 4 have the same look as on Celebrity’s Solstice class. The buffet layout is the same as you see on Celebrity. Even the lettering and signage at some venues is the same font used on Celebrity ships. When we first traveled on these types of ships, we always thought of it as a hybrid of Royal and Celebrity but it just didn’t have the feel of a traditional RCL ship. Maybe on the upper decks it did, but the lower public spaces definitely had a Celebrity feel. Royal fans have long wanted a larger Radiance class ship, and maybe this was corporates response but I don’t think it satisfied what people wanted.
  2. Hey all, This will be my first Elite cruise and have some questions. I received a email asking about my preference for alcohol and mixers to have in the room, spa credit or excursion credit and if I will be parking or flying in. We chose flying in and was wondering when we will receive the email from the transportation company regarding pick up. We are sailing out of Gavelston and wanted to spend a couple of days there before the cruise. Is the transportation only available on the day of the cruise or can we arrive a couple days before and be driven to the port? Has anyone done a Casino Elite cruise recently? Any info about the prizes, contests and perks? Thanks in advance!
  3. Journey cruises are the only way we sail on Carnival. The crowd is older and more subdued but it still has a fun atmosphere. Since the cruises are longer, you don’t get the typical crowd you see on the normal Carnival Cruises. We did the 15 day cruise on the Venezia as well on Sept 29th and had a good time. One negative is that since it’s more of a older crowd, there are a lot more scooters and slower walkers who suddenly just stop and look around. Also the buffet lines on the Venezia are slow due to the buffet line design and the slower people. Get to the shows early as the seats fill up in the theater quickly. The view points in this theater are very poor unless you sit on the lower level and the middle. Every where else your view is obstructed some way.
  4. Wow not even by .50 cents increase anymore… just straight increase of $2.
  5. On our last cruise on the Carnival Venezia, it seemed like the photographers were more aggressive than the local taxi drivers in Nassau trying to sell you a island tour. Yes there is probably a quota each photographer has to make in order to keep their job, but it seemed very overwhelming where a no thank you wasn’t enough to turn them away. They would keep insisting, especially once you walk off the gangway in to the port. In my opinion, I feel most people won’t buy random pictures they didn’t want to take in the first place. Nowadays, Everyone has a camera on their phone and can take their own photos. Prices have become very expensive and I doubt a picture with a giant towel animal is a popular sale. Has anyone else experienced the aggressive behavior of the paparazzi on other ships recently?
  6. Just saw this picture and never knew Allure of the Seas Godmother was Princess Fiona from Shrek. Lol! Since the Dreamworks and RCL Partnership has ended, I guess we won’t be seeing her roam the ship! Maybe one day RCL will bring back Dreamworks (?).
  7. We are currently on the last leg heading back to NY on this 15 day Journey cruise. Seems like Carnival celebrates Halloween all month. Yesterday was our Halloween themed day. I have included the activities so you can get a idea of what to expect. If you have any questions, let me know. Happy Sailing!
  8. For those casino players who receive Elite cruises, how much do you “donate” before you get those offers? How many casino points do you accrue for a week long cruise usually? Bankroll?
  9. Was Utopia of the Seas always planned for 3/4 night cruises or do you think originally it was meant for deployment elsewhere but was changed due to global circumstances?. The Wonder was built for the Asia / Chinese market but then it was changed. Was Utopia meant to be in Asia as well? It would be very interesting if RCL used Icon 2 Star of Seas for 3/4 night cruises. The price right now for Icon of the Seas is shockingly very expensive compared to when they first opened up the sale of cabins.
  10. We decided not to take this cruise and took advantage of doing a back to back to back cruise in Europe on the Pride instead. From another post it seems like the 30 day transpacific cruise was in for a rocky (literally) start and missed ports in Alaska. 10 straight days at sea before they reached Japan. Seems like it was a good idea to skip the cruise
  11. I just booked a cruise through Royal Caribbean’s Club casino and was wondering what the code “ YHP5 Slots” is on the invoice. The amount was deducted from invoice amount like a discount. I don’t play slot machines and only play table games. I’m just curious to know what that may be. The other part of the invoice had casino comp listed but it didn’t cover the whole balance.
  12. The cruise director just made an announcement that we will be heading back to Dover tomorrow at noon! We should arrive by Monday to pick up more guests and do the 7day revised itinerary!
  13. Yes there is a lot of misinformation going on between the shoreside office and the ship board personnel. Cruise director ensured there would be buses waiting to bring the passengers from the smaller airport to the major Gatwick and Heathrow airports. There were no shuttles so people had to pay almost $200 to get to their hotels by the airport. Once they arrived there some of the hotels didn’t have a list from Carnival and people had to pay for their hotels. I think the effort was there but the logistics of the whole situation was not carried out properly.
  14. Hello, We are having an issue where it seems like our future cruise credit is “lost” between the Aon Travel Insurance we booked through Carnival and Carnival cruise line. The Aon insurance group said they have issued the future cruise credits and when speaking to a Carnival representative, they are saying they never received any notes from Aon and to give it more time. The cruise was canceled March 16th and the email from Aon said 2-4 weeks to process. It’s been more than 3 months and this is getting frustrating. If anyone has any information like a email address for Carnival’s guest resolutions department that I can write to or a number where I can speak with someone who can actually will solve my issue and not try to get me off the phone so they could take the next call to book a cruise, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
  15. -There is no such thing as “low kid” season anymore (For Caribbean sailings on large ships). Expect lots of families and children any time of year. Royal Caribbean has made it clear that the family demographic is their target audience. Lot of the shows will become more family friendly such as the Effectors and Effectors II. Icon will have Wizard of Oz. -Buffet will basically serve the same food every day and change up one station for “dinner theme”. Specialty restaurants are going to cost as much as ordering from a land restaurant. If you have a dining package, expect smaller portions and limited menu. -Expect room steward to tell you what time they will clean your room. Since room cleanings have gone to one time per day, the room steward said he will be coming to clean our room between 4pm-5pm each day. A positive from this is that you know when to be out of the room and also that you won’t be disappointed if the room hasn’t been cleaned when returning after breakfast or lunch. -Cleaning staff shortages. On our recent sailing on the Wonder, we noticed there was a lot of wear and tear already. The ship is only a year old and it seems like maintenance hasn’t kept up. Floors are constantly filthy on the pool deck, the buffet, in elevators, stateroom doors and walls. -The “new” menu is basically the same menu as the old one, just now the classic items are scattered and added to other days. Lobster tails are not unlimited anymore. $16.99 if you want more than 1 tail. -Spa treatments have risen in price significantly. Look for port day specials for some lower prices. -Pizza quality is back to Ellios frozen pizza. At one point it seemed like Royals pizza was going in the right direction, but now it’s back to pre made frozen dough. Toppings are good quality but dough is sub par.
