  1. I agree with this logic. I had to question why there wasn’t an option that didn’t include keeping things the way that they are. Or, One of the main differences between SB and other luxury lines is the lack of included excursions, or the baked in cost to cover some excursion credit. That is a huge difference. The scenarios as I recall included ‘x’ amount of excursion credit, or included excursions. A key differentiating factor wasn’t in A or B.
  2. Thank you all for additional responses. The aft is on deck 7 so I would hope soot isn’t a problem. From experience, are these cabins on the smaller sq ft size? ‘the expended balcony is next to crew staircase so it’s actually extended in both in length (1 1/2 vs normal) width and depth. That caught my attention. It’s over the ‘blank area’ of the MDR, so I wonder if that is the kitchen and could be noisy later.
  3. Thank you for your feedback. I would think that the dining room would be quiet during the night, more so than other venues, but this is a valid point to consider. ‘With the steep prices in all cruises, it’s a bit more challenging than it used to be. Years back a Neptune we sailed in was a real pleasure, and not as painful as it is now. In today’s retirement dollars it is a different lens we are viewing through, so I looked at the Signature - again, a great point to consider that you are mentioning!
  4. It’s being discussed on other social media sites as well as here. Seems to be same consensus as here. Since CC is purportedly such a crazy small population of pax on cruises, I sincerely doubt that the generalized topics discussed here from the survey, rather than actual specifics of the survey will catch HQ attention. It it does, then they pay more attention to CC than is presumed based on lack of response from SB on this site. Surveys that truly seek customer needs and expectations can be valuable tools of that data is implemented in marketing strategy. Surveys that are ambiguous and without clear definition can be marketing ploys to say a survey gathered data, only to justify what they already are planning to do. I sincerely hope it was for the first and not second reason.
  5. We are looking at sailing the Oosterdam for the first time. In looking up cabin sizes the balcony cabins have a wide range in size. How does one go about finding the larger? 216 sq ft would feel pretty tight, but the larger end of the range is attractive? In trying to find this information, I came across two options that caught my attention. Cabin 7149 aft….and 4166 with the extended balcony. We tend to use our balcony quite a bit, so both have their distinct advantages. Does anyone have experience and thoughts on these locations as well as interior space? We also looked a Signature suite 6115. Not sure if these are worth the extra cost? thank you in advance
  6. Received their survey asking if we would appreciate changing the model up of offerings. There was one write in area, which I used. Almost missed it. I think it’s important that they get a feel from their customers what their preferences are. Hopefully they listen to the feedback, and it is not just a marketing tool. Without discussing specifics, I also answered No on all We booked SB because of their business model. Instead, their prices have skyrocketed last month without any changes to their model. IMHO, they can’t have it all, or they won’t keep them all.
  7. That’s what happens when we are all cheering at grandkids sports games on my watch app! And we are talking - lots of people cheering and clapping! No way would I want that at a pool!
  8. But if you pay the increased prices to receive what you hope you used to have on any line, and we all keep reading that isn’t happening, where is the solution? Agree. Prices are up. Significantly. If one pays those prices, it seems fair to expect some type of value. Hiltner, really enjoying your live and balanced updates. Seems like your overall assessment is pretty positive. Your issues (excursions, etc) seem valid and should be addressed by O. Agree, Malta is one incredible sail in. Loved every minute of it!

  10. We spent 3 weeks 14 years ago in NZ for our anniversary on a land trip. Still to this day one of my favorite places. Simply beautiful. People, land, culture….stamp to memory I researched prior, was told no tipping. As in none at that time. The only time we felt like we may have messed up in not doing so was with a concierge at one lodging. He did quite a bit for us, and in hindsight we probably should have. The reference that I made earlier to Venice last year….When in a nice restaurant, we tipped very modestly. In one particular, the service was so bad that we didn’t tip, and when we left, the server was not happy with us and made it very clear. Oh well, he didn’t deserve it. Would it be great for servers to be paid a living wage here in the States, and therefore no tips required? Yes it would. After all these decades of tipping, can you imagine the confusion and chaos that would create? But if it were a perfect world, and a living wage was offered, yes. As has been said here. Tipping cultures can be so confusing.
  11. I think that you meant Oceania’s smaller ships. Viking has no R class ships. We always very much enjoyed our Viking experiences. Ocean and River. We have not yet tried Oceania, however there are itineraries and price points that we are looking at for next year. I have followed both for quite a while, and I think we would enjoy Oceania. Seabourn last year was a great experience. I think we would sail on any of them given the right sailing, and price, during our window of travel. I’ve also looked at Azamara due to their itineraries. Their ships give me hesitation as we would absolutely need to book a suite due to cabin size.
  12. Maybe sometime you can have the opportunity to experience the States in other geographies. Even within the United States, we tend to have varying cultures. I traveled a lot when I was working. Various regions within our country can be quite different in many different ways.
  13. Vallesan, it does sound like you ran into a few off-putting situations. I am sorry you experienced that. It can happen anywhere, in any country. It can plant an image in our minds when that happens. My brother years ago had a bad experience in a country in Europe, and he did not want to return. He was a bit hard headed though. When we went to the same country and had a wonderful time, shared our experience with him, he still would not change his opinion. (Not suggesting that is you). Tipping in the States is a culture that has been in place for a long time. Right or wrong. Mostly it occurs because those servers really do rely on that income. We tip based on the level of service. We are generous of good and not so much if not. When we travel to another country, we try to understand what is expected and standard in tipping. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that servers do make a living wage and that even with great service, it is truly not necessary at the same rates. What we have encountered a few times is a server who almost expects a larger tip simply because we are from the States (happened last year in Venice). So I think it can be confusing from both perspectives at times. We always hit ATM’s and/or order foreign currency when we travel. The one time it was challenging was on a 29 day Viking trip that covered a multitude of countries with different currencies. There were days we just limited our purchases to credit cards only, as going to ATM’s in each country for a day was not the smart play.
  14. I hope that works out for you. It probably makes the most sense to do an excursion in Santorini with the over crowding of ship passengers. Thank you for your review of Cinque Terre. We have not been, have wanted to though - it sounds like it is always pretty crowded. So glad that you are enjoying your trip!. It’s great to read along with you. I trust your even and balanced feedback.
  15. I wish they would do this for the US market. it seems as if they are somewhat mirroring Viking….and V doesn’t include gratuities here either.
