Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. @Etta1213 Greetings You indicated there may be some mobility issues. I found information on the Princess website for people using wheelchairs, scooters, etc. that have mobility issues. Please follow up with your Travel Agent. Per Princess Cruise Line: You must complete a Mobility Request Questionnaire. Mobility Requests: Guests using mobility devices or who need additional assistance should fill out the below Mobility Questionnaire and return it to the Access Office. Traveling with a service animal requires review and prior approval from the Access Office. The Access Office can be reached at accessoffice@princesscruises.com or by fax at 661-284-4408. Mobility Requests: Log in to your Account. Go to -- Manage this booking. Select -- Check-In A “pdf file” for the request is found in the middle of your “Check-In” screen. Also, you may want to check the sub forum – “Disability Cruise Travel”. This forum provides general info regarding tips, accessibility, mobility, wheelchair assistance, tour operators that accommodate persons with mobility issues, etc.
  2. EZ Air provides 4 options – Economy, Premium Economy, Business and First Class. Is First Class the same as Business? John
  3. Thanks for your comments. Over the years, I’ve learned to respect you comments and/or opinions. You indicated there’s a legal requirement (statutory) for a dry dock ever 5 years? I assume the dry dock in 2025 will require the docking facility to be flooded to allow the cruise ship to float in, then, be drained once the vessel is positioned on supports. This gives shipyard workers access to the ship's hull and other areas that are usually underwater. Many people (myself included) often refer to a cruise ship dry dock, thinking of typically of items like normal maintenance, repairs and refurbishments, painting, replace carpeting, replace furniture, and other furnishing. But, it’s much more than that without getting into specifics. Question; What‘s the difference between SOLAS and Lloyd’s Registry requirements? Do both have a 5-year requirement? John
  4. The top of the request form states: Please complete and return this form to adminsupport@princesscruises.com. If you would like to transfer multiple cabins, a form must be signed and submitted by one guest per cabin. Bookings may only be transferred within 60 days of booking creation so long as (a) the request is made outside the Final Payment period, and (b) the booking is not paid in full. Make sure you're using the latest dated form. Please note at the very bottom of the form (lower right). The date should read: 03042022. Yes, the request must be signed. Five (5) months ago I sent a request form using my “Travel Agent” phone number and it was rejected. They could not find my travel agent. My TA has been working with Princess for over 30 years. Go figure! On the form the “Phone Number for the New Agency” must be the “booking” phone number. What! I never heard of such a thing. After talking to my TA, she gave me the “booking phone number” for the agency. Not her direct line. The Revenue Department sent me an email with a request to resubmit the form with the correct phone number. The form was resubmitted. After another 30 days -- nothing. So, I sent another email asking why the booking was not approved. I stated (in the email) that the "updated" form was submitted at their request. They sent another email an apologized. My request was finally approved well after the 120 days from when I created the booking. John
  5. Transfer booking to Travel Agent Recently, I booked a cruise on line (Princess web-site). Now I want to transfer the booking to our Travel Agent? The Princess request form states I have 60 days to transfer the booking. Will my Travel Agent receive a “full” commission if transferred? I thought I read somewhere that TA’s only receive a “partial” commission. I that really true? John
  6. Princess coming new sales. If there is a “sale” or promotion I like -- then I book the cruise on line (Princess web-site). Can I transfer the booking to our Travel Agent? I assume the answer is yes. What is the “limited time” to transfer to an agent? Example -- within 30 days from the date you booked? Where do you find the forms to start and/or complete the process? Will your Travel Agent receive a “full” commission if transferred? I thought I read somewhere that TA’s only receive a “partial” commission. I that true? John

  8. Looking at the Inside Passage (which is over 600 miles long) – there is a difference in the route these big cruise ships take. For me, the “Inside Passage” going south from the southern tip of Alaska uses the Grenville Channel. The Grenville Channel is possibly the most dramatic part of the Inside Passage. Large cruise ships (Royal Class) do not take this route. The channel narrows to about quarter-mile at mile 518. Just beautiful!! The Northern Canyons is especially dramatic 100 mile stretch of the Inside Passage which begins at Boat Bluff Lighthouse. The almost 90-degree turn is too sharp for large cruise ships like the Majestic so they use a modify route. Once you approach the Queen Charlotte Sound large ships (Majestic, Discovery, Royal) traverse west of Vancouver Island and smaller ships (Emerald, Grand, Sapphire) enter the Queen Charlotte Strait then the Johnstone Strait with very beautiful scenery as you head toward Seattle or Vancouver. Farther south at Seymour Narrows – all ship traffic along the Inside Passage must pass through this narrow gorge. There are swift tidal currents in this area. Again, very beautiful! From here you enter Georgia Strait which has more open water to navigate. Vancouver Island will be on the starboard side. If I remember correctly, the problem with these very large Princess ships (Royal Class) is their rudder/propeller configuration. So what might set the Royal Princess class ships apart from other megaships? They use standard propulsion: propellers and rudders. Azipod propulsion (used by Norwegian, Royal Caribbean) performs better at low speeds when big ships need to maneuver in tight spots. The Azipods can rotate 360 degrees to give you thrust in any direction. Plus, the fact that Princess Royal class ships (Majestic, Discovery, Regal, Royal) have somewhere around 3.1 acres of sail area (the amount of surface exposed to a wind blowing on the side of the vessel), and the Southeast Alaska Pilots Association were concerned about getting cruise ships through narrow parts of the Inside Passage. Also, the Provincial Government of British Columbia -- made the decision that they would not be allowed (Princess Royal class ships) to transit Seymour Narrows, which meant that ships had to sail west of Vancouver Island. Princess Cruise Line has had on and off discussions with the BC Government to lift any restrictions.
  9. I logged off the system. Two (2) minutes later I tried to log back in to see if my “new” password worked. I system would NOT allow access. HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!
  10. @DMRick Greetings, Yes, there is a problem. There’s another thread on this subject with multiple replays. Below is what I wrote on the other thread. As others have indicated – I’ve been having problems getting access to Princess web-site since last week. The system would not recognize my current password. The system would ask me to “register” for a new account -- which I did not. Today, I tried multiple times to access my original account. I requested my password to be “reset” several times today. Email sent by Princess each time. FINALLY -- I GOT ACCES TO THE WEB-SITE. Cruisers keep trying. I’m not a computer expert but something is going on. IT department get your act together! John

  12. OK folks -- there are many good ideas present in this thread. I can see why UK cruisers may have a problem with our acronyms. Rick & Jeannie I like the one about the TA (Travel Agent versus TransAtlantic) Also, I like the one using a TA to book a TA. I’ll give it my best shot on some definitions (or acronyms) people use: FCD - Future Cruise Deposit can only be purchased on previous cruises for $100 that will be charge to your credit card on file (not cruise portfolio). They are to be used as a deposit toward a future booking. By using a FCD you will also receive OBC dependent on cabin category. Expiration date: 1 year (this is new). FCC - Future Cruise Credit given by Princess for a cancelled cruise. Usually has an expiration date or book by date. It can be applied to cruise payment, EZ Air, port taxes and fees. OBC - Onboard Credit that you receive from a promotion or purchasing ahead (as in casino credits). (Includes Military OBC) Shareholder OBC - Requires ownership of 100 CCL stock. OBC is dependent on length of cruise. (Shareholder OBC and Military OBC are not combinable – this is new) Medallion Class App - mobile device app that lets you check in. Also, most (but not all) of it can be done on a Web Based link. Many cruisers have experience problems and consternation – IT Dept get your act together. Medallion - Little round thing a ma-jig that opens your cabin door and allows you to do a few other things like get you on/off the ship. How about ordering drinks or food – if it’s working. Some cruisers report drinks never an arrive in reasonable amount time or at all. So they walk up to the bar an order. MedallionNet - paid inTERnet service/wi-fi/surfing the internet for email, Google, etc Ocean Concierge - inTRAnet. Used for ordering and finding people. Ocean Navigator - the IT folks who are supposed to help you with the Medallion Class App. I know there are a lot of other definitions. OK I give up! What is SWAK? Maybe I’ll learn something. My favorite: A mini-suite is NOT a suite. It is a premium gloried deluxe balcony cabin. No suite perks, even with Club Class. John
  13. @moonjelly Agree -- very confusing. Please provide more detail information.
  14. I use this web site all the time for additional information over many years. Very helpful wed site.

This forum provides general info regarding tips, accessibility, mobility, wheelchair assistance, tour operators that accommodate persons with mobility issues, etc. In Addition: The Princess Cruise Tour uses Ultra dome cars. There are four (4) types of coach cars that Princess uses. Series II “A” Coaches – ADA compliant Series I “B” Coaches – Not ADA compliant Series I “C” Coaches – ADA compliant Series II “E” Coaches – ADA compliant If I remember correctly – B coaches are still not ADA accessible. They coaches were built in various years from 1988 to 1996. Please let Princess know your mobility needs. ADA features: Wheelchair life to lower level, 1 restroom, they added a lift to the upper level in 2006. Hope this helps planning your cruise. John
