Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. This is also my experience. I booked all of my excursions through Princess for once because, although this will be my 8th cruise to Alaska, it will be my first as a solo and I wanted assurance that Princess staff would know where I was at all times. I paid for my excursions last year. Since then, the prices have increased significantly. . $130 more for Ketchikan excursion . $100 more in Juneau . $260 more in Skagway . $40 more in Victoria The four excursions I booked last year, pricey enough, would cost me a total of $530 more now. For one person!
  2. This was my experience, so please take it or leave it. About eight years ago, my husband and I were sent a move-over offer. We accepted it and had no regrets because we were already on the ship for a back-to-back and agreed to give up our balcony cabin for an obstructed ocean-view. We did not regret our decision, but in our case, obstructed ocean view turned out to be fully obstructed by the tenders. Technically, we had an ocean view, but only when the life boats were out to sea. Save your money. I have followed your messages throughout this thread and you have given your all to the planning of this trip. Don't let the temptation to keep planning lead you astray. You are already golden.
  3. In 2014, my husband and I spent 34 days in an inside cabin on a B2B2B that visited 20 ports: Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy Naples, Italy Athens, Greece Mykonos, Greece Crete, Greece Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey Santorini, Greece Messina, Sicily (Italy) Valletta, Malta Cagliari, Sardinia Ajaccio, Corsica (France) Villefranche, France Palma, Mallorca Barcelona, Spain Valencia, Spain Malaga, Spain Gibraltar Cadiz, Spain Philipsburg, St. Maarten Fort Lauderdale, Florida An inside cabin was the only affordable option for us and I loved every minute of that trip, even the times spent in our cabin.
  4. You are on a difficult path and I wish you every blessing as you muster the strength to plan and take this cruise. Your husband deserves to achieve his goal of visiting all 50 states and I pray that he does.
  5. If your husband is mobile enough to get off the ship in Skagway, please look into the White Pass Railroad Luxury Car. It is very expensive, currently $429 per person on Princess, and can only be booked through a cruise line (Princess, HAL, Celebrity, Disney, and maybe some others), but it would be an excellent option for you and your husband to participate in a popular excursion and see some sights beyond the ship. The parlor car is limited to 12 adults and includes leather chairs, personal guide, private bathroom, and food and drinks. It is the same 3.5-hour trip as the standard excursion except in a first-class parlor car with comfortable seating. Unfortunately, since seating is limited, tickets for the luxury car sell out fast and you would need to book ASAP if there is availability. https://www.princess.com/ports-excursions/skagway-alaska-excursions/white-pass-scenic-railway-luxury-class/
  6. Because of your message, I just checked my four excursions and discovered that the White Pass Railway Luxury Car now costs $70 more than what I paid, an increase from $359.95 to $429.95 per person! Thank you for providing so much helpful and up-to-date information.
  7. Princess offers a private 4-hour van tour with driver for up to 14 passengers for $800 per van (not per passenger). https://www.princess.com/ports-excursions/juneau-alaska-excursions/private-van-tour-with-driver-14-passengers
  8. I took the tour the first year it was offered (maybe five years ago?) and really enjoyed it. Some of the stops are different now, but I would recommend it based on my experience.
