  1. Basically there is no dress code for women, except for the, not shorts ir swim wear rule, they can wear what they deem appropriate. This works . Perhaps cunard think men are inherently lazier (clothes wise) and scruffier, may be quite rightly
  2. One thing that have been argued about are very clear. Jackets are completely optional, and not included in dress code
  3. The Cunard dress code is absolutely clear Smart attire simply means a dress shirt and trousers
  4. Cunards dress code is clear. So I never understand these threads. And the dress code fanatics, who don't want to understand what is in black and white. By the way Saga has a more strict dress code, no polo shirts for smart casual. Also far less places where you can go if you don't want to adopt formal code on formal nights. So I don't understand Cunards reputation as a formal line.
  5. Just my answer to the jacket police.
  6. I think when walking, standing, or dancing a Jacket is elegant, but sitting down it looses it's elegance. So when going to dinner where 95% of time is sitting if you want leave it in cabin. However, Some people can be elegant without a jacket, for some a jacket is a must to make them slightly less inelegant. The NHS amongst others says that rather than BMI the better measure of healthiness (for men) is that your waist is less than half your height , so a 6ft man should have a 34" waist. The same rule applies to elegance, if you pass the waist test, you can look elegant without a jacket. If your XXL shirt is straining at the seams , then a jacket is a must. I know not a fashionable (PC) statement to make.
  7. It is not as comfortable as not wearing a jacket.
  8. I suggest you take it up with Cunard, jackets are optional, but best left in cabin if you don't want to wear one. If the dress code said women had to wear jackets, I expect there would be even more dissenters.
  9. Jackets are not required, so I completely agree is easiest and better if you don't want to wear one leave it in room. Jackets on the back of chairs are not good for the jacket and asking to be knocked off, or spilled upon. But to everyone who is nostalgic for jackets, or thinks that people who wear jackets are somehow better. Sorry its the CUNARD DRESS CODE, which is what it is, ie jackets optional.
  10. It's very easy to explicitly say that Polo shirts are not considered acceptable, Saga do this. As Cunard hasn't done this simple thing, one must presume that Polo shirts are within the dress code. Saga Therefore has the strictest dress code I know. Some thing is either within the dress code, eg no jacket and completely acceptable, or it is outside the dress code and shouldn't be allowed. Therefore Polo shirts are acceptable. The dress code is the standard , not the minimum. It's very easy to see the difference between a ready made bow tie and proper self tied one from yards away. Artificial ones are too perfect and often centre too small
  11. Glad you had a good time, Fred sounds better. What was the % premium of Fred vs similar cabin on P&O
  12. We did CMV once 6 years ago, it was the only ship going from Cape Town to UK when we wanted to come home in April. This was year after we'd done same journey on Aurora. CMV not in same league as Aurora, very basic , cheap and cheerful. Enjoyed the cruise but that was because of the fellow passengers not the ship. Ambassador cruise reviews are very mixed, some, about half the people think they are fine and good value, the other half think they are very basic, poor foodand don't live up to promise
  13. ..... in Brewery comes to mind. Any well done to those who managed to book , saves me staying up to midnight
  14. I could book pay for , but included coming soon
  15. Weird I can still book 10 minutes ago, but glad I have all I want, before they change things again
