Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I can't speak about the Ruby, but on the Crown last September I was able to pull up any day's menu in advance to determine when we might want to book a specialty dinner.
  2. I think the OP was really just fed up with the lack of response and sympathy from Guest Services. I know I would have been. They would be happy with a refund but as many have noted that is not going to happen. There are many irritants in life and on cruises and each of us responds to them differently and in our own way. Just because some of us may not agree does not mean that the OP is wrong in not wanting to sail with Princess again.
  3. It is not generally enforced. As long as you are "presentable" there should not be any problems eating in the main dining room. Torn jeans and shorts would typically not qualify. I now just wear dockers and a polo or button-down shirt and am fine. The days of truly formal nights are a thing of the past.
  4. Just a word of caution about the main dining room breakfast - It can tend to be very slow. On our last cruise we waited probably 15 minutes to place our order with a waiter and another 45 minutes before the food was delivered to our table.
  5. There is typically a gathering of singles on the first or 2nd day of each cruise. Maybe other days afterwards but I can't say for sure. They will always be listed in the daily Patter. You might also consider joining your roll call although the vast majority of folks attending an on-ship get-together will be couples. But it will still provide an opportunity to meet others on your ship.
  6. Depending upon the arrival time at the pier and also the number of people picking up their medallion it could be a real pain. We waited in a check-in line at Vancouver in August close to 50 minutes just to get our medallion. All to save the $10 shipping charge. That will certainly teach me to be cheap. But then the shipping cost is nothing more than what I term "revenue enhancement" for Princess.
  7. Often is not true. It is only likely to have maybe 10 or days maximum per year of temperatures above 90 degrees. and there clearly is fog/overcast way more than 30 days per year, particularly along the coast. Now if you go inland, it can be very different weather with a variance from San Francisco to the far East Bay of up to 30 or more degrees
  8. We sailed on the Crown in late August/early September to Alaska. The crew were great. I thought the food in the MDR was the worst we have ever had on 25+ Princess cruises. Breakfast in the buffet was the exact same thing every morning with no variation at all. We had a mini-suite. The mattress was very broken down. And I would bet that the couch was probably original to when the ship was first launched many years ago. While food and entertainment are subjective, the entertainment on that cruise we felt was lacking. In fact, so much so that for the first time in over 30 cruises we went back to our stateroom after dinner on several nights to watch a movie on the TV,
  9. I ordered the New York strip steak from the always available menu on the Crown in September. Basically it was pretty tasteless when ordered as medium rare. Would never order it again.
  10. Have you considered using free internet at any of your port stops?
  11. I just don't understand why all the fuss about internet. Certainly no one likes to see these kind of price increases. But for those of us that have cruised for many years, we certainly got by before all the smart phones and tablets proliferated our society. Yes, as elite we had "x" number of minutes to use in the internet cafe. I used it to check e-mails and that was about it. On our last cruise we did not have an internet package and survived with no problem. We did connect to free wi-fi in several ports but didn't feel that we missed out on anything. I guess it's just a case of "to each his own."
  12. Don't forget about the motion sensor lights at the bottom of the nightstands next to the bed. We just put one of the decorative bed pillows on the floor in front of them at night, so problem solved.
  13. Or you could always find free internet at most every port and log in from there.
  14. Bucket of 5 for the price of 4 beers was pretty much available at any time of the day at the outside bars.
  15. You'll need to ask for a double or triple thick cut in order to get a decent size slice of meat.
