  1. I think it might also depend on where you want to cruise, and time of year. Are the Ports of no importance to you, or is this "free" cruise limited to a specific area? I hope you are aware that you will have to pay for beverages, unless that is specifically included, as well as daily service charges/gratuities, port excursions, pre cruise hotels, airport transfers, and meals in specialty restaurants on board. From your first post, I would not recommend any of the lines you mentioned, although Princess might work. Virgin is adults only, but may not be an included option. Royal Caribbean and Norwegian have a younger vibe than the previous lines mentioned. And outside of school holidays would have fewer ankle biters running around.
  2. As Cruiser Bruce said, there is a (big) difference between delayed/misdirected luggage, and actually lost luggage. In over 50 years of travel, I've never had a bag lost. On only one cruise did I have a bag delayed by the airline. Fortunately we had arrived at our embarkation port several days early, and the airline delivered the bag to our hotel the next day. In any event, I had a change of clothes in my carry on, and had cross packed the checked bags with my husband.
  3. I doubt that any cruise ship is small enough, and would have been allowed, to sail up the Grand Canal. Despite its name, it's not that wide or deep. What you traversed would have been the Guidecca Canal.
  4. You still fail to grasp the definition of a mandate. If something is mandated, then it is obligatory. Buying a cruise in a specific cabin category is not obligatory. You have a choice with a GTY cabin- take it or don't take it. Book it or book a different category, or different sailing, or a different cruise line, or don't book at all. No one, including the person on the phone, was forcing you to take that cabin. Why would you be surprised a sales rep didn't want to take no for an answer- their job is to sell bookings.
  5. When looking for something on a specific ship make sure of your spelling - its the Ascent. In your online account, or app, the planner should show up if you are 2 weeks out, or less. If your cruise is further in the future, change the dates to next week's sailing. That will give you a general idea, although things may change if your itinerary differs.
  6. Why would you assume that playing your guitar would not disturb those within earshot? How is that different than someone spewing their music choices from their devices without ear buds?
  7. Is this your first cruise? Check in opens on a set number of days before embarkation, but you are not required to do it on that first day. If you are too busy on that day, then it's perfectly fine to wait for a few days. There's no reason to be upset.
  8. Next time you post about a cruise, specify the sailing dates; otherwise people have no idea of the time frame you are talking about.
  9. Can't help wondering why OP is posting on the Canadian forum when their location is given as West Virginia and they say their home is just north of St Louis. Can't see how a concert in Toronto affected flights in and out of St Louis. Or why they couldn't have flown into another airport and driven from there. And they were not, in fact, stranded in Mexico. Lots of exaggeration and hyperbole here, methinks, and a lack of understanding of the T&Cs of their cruise contract.
  10. It's about 200 km to Le Havre. You've been given the options of train, motor coach or rental car. A 4th option would be a private car and driver, which would probably set you back around €500. How many options did you think there would be?
  11. Take the train. Trains leave from Gare Saint Lazare. The SNCF website is here: https://www.sncf-connect.com/app/en-en/home/search/ It's likely too early to make reservations yet. From the Le Havre train station take a taxi to the cruise terminal.
  12. Yes they do. And because they are a sustained, slow release, don't even think of using one that is expired. You don't want to gamble with an improper rate of release or possible degradation of the drug itself.
  13. I thought that fad had faded away. I could see doing it on ships that could be expected to carry a fair number of children. After all, rubber ducks are a child's toy. But Celebrity rarely has many children outside of school holidays, so I don't see the point.
  14. The people to ask would be on the Princess forum: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/119-princess-cruises/
  15. The answers you received in your first thread were correct.
  16. There are different transdermal patches sold for motion sickness. Most that can be found online are so called natural remedies, and don't require a prescription. Their efficacy is questionable. The patch frequently mentioned for sea sickness is scopolomine ( brand name Transderm Scop) which is a very potent drug with a very long list of contraindications, adverse reactions and warnings. For that reason, anyone thinking of using this drug should first consult their family physician. Unless you have a history of refractory motion sickness ( motion sickness that doesn't respond to the usual antinauseant remedies or OTC meds), you might first try something less likely to cause serious side effects. Bonine or Dramamine tablets are 2 common examples. Others will likely add their favorite remedies. Any medication you take for the first time should be tried at home to make sure you can tolerate it, after first consulting your doctor or pharmacist.
  17. Didn't realize this was something I needed to keep track of. I don't even track the number of cruises we've taken.
  18. Not many is probably accurate. Since the majority of cruisers are savvy enough with their clothing choices that they don't need to press an outfit every day, if at all.
  19. All an adapter does is adapt the plug on your device to fit the electrical outlet you want to use. Any travel department will have simple UK to US or UK to EU adapters. However if you want a multi plug outlet extender, or a multiport USB hub, it would need to state that it was not surge protected. Be sure that any device is plugged into a voltage compatible outlet. You can't plug a 220v device into a 110 outlet, regardless of the adaptor used. Dual voltage devices can be plugged into either the North American or EU outlets. Eclipse cabins will have 2 US and one EU outlet at the desk area.
  20. Oh, please. Try again. Explain how cruise lines with guest laundry facilities still ban steamers. Go ahead. We're waiting.
  21. Just to add one more option: Holland America. Not really known as party ships.
  22. The ships doctor will not dispense routine prescribed meds; if that's what you mean by "suspend". And a prescription written in the US will not be filled in another country, unless your doctor is also licensed to practice there. You would need to see a physician in your first port of call, explain your situation, perhaps provide test results or doctors notes, get a prescription from that local doctor, and then get it filled at a local pharmacy. The pharmacy may or may not have the drug on hand for an immediate fill. Call th doctor who ordered the test and ask them to bump up the priority of the results. Explain why you would need any new prescription on Friday, so you could get it filled before embarkation.
  23. Since I rate them right up there with pink flamingos and garden gnomes on the front lawn .....no.
  24. There's a thread for that in the Ports of Call forum: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/148-british-isleswestern-europe/ It's a sticky at the top of the page.
