It is an incredibly beautiful place..and the views to the east towards the city and mountains are fabulous on a clear day. My DH Kenneth, who passed away last year, was a Docent on the USS Midway. It's considered the #1 tourist destination in SD by Trip Advisor and you can really spend the entire day there...if you want. I hope you enjoy your stay in SD...and you're so right..there is a lot to see and do!!
LuAnn - very sorry for the loss of your husband Kenneth. With the USS Midway considered as the #1 tourist destination in San Diego, I should try to spend the majority of our day there instead of running all over town. Will try to fit in the Petco Tour as it isn't too far from the Midway.

It's not really very far from the port to Ft Rosecrans. Maybe you could have someone drop you off and then request a ride back on a taxi app or call them ? Most of the older memorials are all in one place..on the oldest side of the cemetery facing SD Bay and if you want to visit a specific grave site there is a map in the visitor's center. I'm not sure but they might have a golf cart or something like that to get you to the spot. I think you can contact them directly if questions.
LuAnn...Thank you for your suggestions and info about the location of the older memorials. Fort Rosecrans looks like a beautiful place to visit. I'm trying to fit this into our itinerary as we plan to visit the USS Midway first thing in the morning. So many things to see with so little time.

I worked on Point Loma as a contractor supporting the Navy/Marine Corps for many years and occasionally ate my lunch there near the cemetery. It really is a beautiful area. Recommend you Google "San Diego private tours". There are many folks who will take you to all the places you'd like to see.
Thank you. Will look at the 'San Diego private tours' to see what's offered.

It is easy to get a cab and I'm sure you'd find someone willing to drive you around and back, but it won't be cheap since cabs charge by time and distance.
Yes, I agree. Most likely the cab option will not be cheap, especially when our Canadian dollar is so low compared to the US Dollar. Thank you.

Wondering if anyone has taken a taxi from San Diego cruise terminal to Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. Is it easy to get to by taxi and how much would the round trip cost? I hoping to hire a taxi to give us a tour. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Hubby and I usually walk from the ballpark to Market Street after a game—getting Muni is sometimes pretty busy in front of the park! And I don’t like to ride in a packed bus! There are usually a number of people walking as well so it never feels unsafe. Once we’re at Market St, we catch Muni/BART/UBER to where we’re heading.
May I make some suggestions on what to eat while at the game? We go often enough (15-20 games a season) that we don’t normally indulge in these offerings but, as we have been to a number of different stadiums around the country, these are unique to Oracle Park: garlic fries, sourdough-crust pizza, clam chowder in a sourdough bowl, Ghirardelli ice cream.
Enjoy, and go Giants!
Mmmm.. I love your suggestions on what to eat at Oracle Park, especially the clam chowder in a sourdough bowl. As for my husband, he will try to eat everything listed here. This will probably be our one and only visit to Oracle Park, so for sure we will indulge.
If we feel safe enough after the game, maybe we can walk back to our cruise terminal.
Thanks so much for your suggestions.

The schedule means little, because around the end of the game they will usually load extra trains on the route. But the route, where the trains stop, is important.
Noted.

Muni Metro train, stations almost right in front of the pier (Brannan) and the stadium (4th& King). Only one stop in between.
I'll check out the Muni Metro train schedule. This will probably work for us (to and from the game). Thank you.

Just looked at the Pier schedule and no ships are showing on June 19th. What ship are you on?
If going from the main cruise terminal try this to start. How good a walker are you? 2.2 miles one way. Uber will be surge pricing. Someone else with recent experience can offer better details. I love Oracle Park. It's a good baseball stadium!
Pier 27 to Oracle Park - Google Maps
We will be on the Emerald Princess and staying overnight in SF. I'm a very good walker and 2.2 miles one way won't be much of a problem to head over to Oracle Park. I'm more concerned about getting back to the ship after the game (eg. will there be enough cabs available at the stadium). Was planning to do the stadium tour until we found out about game night on June 19th. Appreciate your help.

Our cruise ship will be in San Francisco overnight on June 19th and we would love to take in the San Francisco Giants game. What is the best mode of transportation to and from the game? We can probably take a taxi to the game but just wondering how it easy it would be get a taxi after the game. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Download the App before you go just make sure when using the app to select a vehicle that will seat 4 and accommodate your luggage. We had 4 bags after a 30 day cruise and ended up with a minivan which was perfect.Completely your choice to tip or not but I always tip in cash and the drivers seem to really appreciate it.
Thanks for the tip to download the App before we get to LAX. We've never used Uber or any ride share programs so this will be a first for us.
-
Thank you lx200GPS for the information and the hyperlink to Uber. I've never used Uber before so I will be a 'newbie' to this. And yes we will be flying in via Air Canada so good to know that we can't catch a taxi or Uber at our terminal.
Thank you ruready for your reply too! Great to know that we'll have no problem getting an Uber or Lyft ride at LAX and that we don't need to book ahead of time.
-
We're flying into LAX a day before our cruise therefore no Princess Shuttle transfers available. Do we need to book ahead for UBER or Lyft from LAX? Or will we able to find one when we arrive at LAX? We need transportation for 4 to the Crowne Plaza in San Pedro. Thanks in advance.

Hotels in downtown Vancouver are quite pricey. You might want to consider staying at the Hampton Inn by Hilton Vancouver-Airport/Richmond Hampton Inn. There is a airport shuttle to transport you to the hotel. The hotel is within walking distance to the Skytrain station. The Skytrain will bring you directly to downtown Vancouver and also to the cruise ship terminal.

Here are a few hotels within Richmond, BC that you might want to look at:
River Rock Casino Hotel - you can take the Skytrain directly from Vancouver airport to the hotel
Hilton Vancouver Airport Hotel - I think there is an airport shuttle for this hotel. This hotel is about 4 blocks away from the Skytrain station. Lots of restaurants in this area. Also across the street from the Richmond Centre Shopping mall.

Executive Hotel Vancouver Airport - Airport shuttle for this hotel. Distance to the Skytrain station a bit further than the Hilton Vancouver Airport.

Good luck. Hope you'll find a hotel that works for your schedule.

For 2 people we paid USD$10 each way total for both the GZ in Mazatlán and to/from Secrets Resort in PV. In PV we exited the cruise terminal and took a non-white, regular cab. We did have to negotiate the price though in both ports.
Taxi drivers were asking USD$20 one way for wife and I and we just stuck with telling them USD$10. After they asked three times for more, both drivers agreed on $10. We tipped the drivers in addition.
This was March 2019.
Thank you everyone for your replies. We must remember to negotiate a set fare before getting into the cabs. Now I have a better idea of the going rate for the cab rides.
-
It's been a few years since we visited Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta. Just wondering what are the cab fares from the cruise terminal to the Golden Zone in Mazatlan and the Malecon in PV.
-
ShipFish, this is wonderful; extremely helpful.
We are pretty good walkers, so sounds like we can do a lot without too many forms of transportation.
Thanks.
Hi Lumpkin8 - if you are pretty good walkers you should have no problem walking around Kobe. We just returned from our RCL cruise yesterday. In Kobe, there were free shuttles available for the passengers to take to Nankin-Machi (Chinatown). Great place to shop and lots of eateries around. From there we walked about 20 minutes to the Minatogawa Shrine. Beautiful and peaceful place to visit if you're into Shrines. Free admission too. And from Minatogawa Shrine we walked to Merikan Park to look at the Port Tower and the earthquake memorial site. Finally walked back to Nankin-Machi to catch the shuttle back to the ship. We did all this within our 6 hours in port.
In Okinawa - there were no free shuttles but plenty of taxis available. Due to the tropical cyclone Yagi, we were late arriving to Okinawa and had to wait 1.5 hours to clear immigration so we had less than 6 hours in port. We took a taxi to Shurijo Castle (25 minutes ride) for $1600 yen which is not bad at all for the 4 of us. After that we hopped back onto a taxi to Kokusai-Dori street for souvenir shopping and eating. You will enjoy walking along Kokusai-dori street.
You will have a great time without worrying about transportation!

Thank you everyone for your quick replies. I filed my claim on Chargerback.com and will sit back and wait for an answer from RCL.
Bama_girl1 -- happy to hear your success story that they found your key fob!

Hello.. we just got off the Voyager of the Seas on August 19th. Returned home and my husband thinks he might have lost his sunglass shade clip on the ship. Called RCL and the customer representative referred me to Chargerback.com to file a claim.
Does anyone have any recent experience in using this site? Is it a legitimate site?
Thanks in advance for any answers.

Thank you everyone for your replies. Since we're flying Economy, most likely no access to any Air Canada lounge at HKIA. Will look further into the Plaza Premium lounges or depending on the weather, just might take mk8288's suggestion to dropped our luggage off at the Kowloon Airport Express Station and enjoy Tsim Sha Tsui for a few hours before heading out to the airport for our flight home.

Will disembark from the Voyager of the Seas on August 19th and have a long wait at Hong Kong International airport prior to our 5:30 pm flight back to Canada. Does anyone have any information on the airport lounges offered at the airport. We're flying Air Canada but I don't see any lounge for AC passengers. I see a Plaza premium lounge on the airport website. Is this lounge for all passengers? Do you need to make reservations to get in? Seems like shower facilities are also available? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much' date=' we are joining Voyager of the Seas in August out of Hong Kong, our first cruise, we are so excited and confused by all the different comments.[/quote']
Thanks for the picture of the Voyager of the Seas (daytime and nighttime photos). Speaking of sailing on the VOS in August out of Hong Kong, are you going on the 9 day Okinawa cruise? Just wondering, as we're sailing on that itinerary on out of Hong Kong on August 10, 2018!
-
Must admit, we had not looked at the likelihood of cyclones. But we have sailed in heavy weather before, so it will be what it will be. We will make the best of it. Looking forward to it. This will be our first time sailing from Hong Kong on an Asian cruise, done a few out of Singapore, mainly Westerners aboard. Looking forward to the culture change.
FYI - A Roll Call has been set up for this cruise. Hope to get more fellow cruisers to sign up.
-
Do you feel the trip could be spoilt due to Typhoons both in HK and/or Japan. Would hate to spend all the cruise stuck inside a rocking ship sheltering from the rain.
I guess that is the risk we must take. Mother Nature is difficult to predict. It's like sailing the Caribbean in August and hoping to avoid the hurricanes!

Your advice is well noted! Will definitely take my time to appreciate the USS Midway tour. By the way, do we need to purchase the tickets online or can we purchase the tickets on the day of?
