  1. In lieu of a review I will highlight what I could have done differently or would do again if I ever go back on the Getaway..

Transportation:skip the Norwegian transfers. I let them book everything because I never cruised from Miami and was afraid I would mess something up. Besides cost it took an hour to go from airport to hotel because of all the stops it made dropping off so many other people. A cab would have been faster and more economical.

Stateroom: will definitely stick with the spa balcony or a spa suite. Without it, I would have never experienced the pool and in my opinion the tons of jets inside the pool and the body temp water was superior to what was on the upper deck. I loved the thermal spa suite. I also thought the balcony size was sufficient for spending alone time and enjoying the sights. And even though everyone raves about the Aft, whenever I was Aft, I noticed the ship more than when I was in my forward facing room. so I would do forward again for the benefit of the spa pass.

Food: keep UDP. skip the buffet. Food selection was plenty but I didn't like what was available. My daughter loved it. I didnt. Quality was average. for non specialty, O Sheehans tasted better and not crowded. I would have skipped Le Bistro and Ocean Blue. The food may have been good, but French is not my thing, it is small and it's location is so noisey. My daughter wanted to try it so we did. I ate as much as I could but it didn't do much for me.

I would have eaten at least 3 times at Cagneys, the food is outstanding, I had lamb chops one night and filet mignon another night and was in heaven and the noodle bar a second time, it was yummy. Problem with Shanghai is that you can miss it if not careful.

Entertainment:Overall was excellent, Howl at the moon was good but my least favorite out of everything I did which was Burn the floor, Illusionarium, and legally blond. I would have listened to the band at the Grammy experience nightly instead of once because they were dynamic. The timing of the band was interefering with other things I wanted to do. I could have skipped the comedy show. It was just not funny to me.

Nightlife: tried to stay up later to enjoy the parties. I would eat, have the flight mojito sampler which was 6 3 ounce mojitos in different flavors and that was like a tranquilizer for me...lol. They were so tasty I couldn't resist. I ended up falling asleep shortly after the parties started in spice H20. Also eating everything I saw just prior to that didn't help my cause either.

Upper Deck: Braved the rock wall, ropes course, and water slides. I am really afraid of heights and I walked up there yet couldn't overcome it so I didn't do them. Next time I won't spend time thinking about it because I regret being a chicken about it.

General: I found that pre planning my meals and shows hindered me from seeing some of the things I may have wanted to try so I feel like I missed a good chunk of stuff, the downside is if you didn't reserve and you weren't in Haven you run the risk of not getting into the restaurant you wanted when you wanted.

Excursions: keep the same. I rented ATV in St Marteens and had freedom to beach where I wanted away from many tourists and it was so much fun and I rented a catamaran in St Thomas With Other CC members and had the most memorable days, we boated to st John's and we're the only 6 people in this beach snorkeling. We could have customized this day any way we wanted to. So worth the price.

  2. I keep mine in a Ball Haul. It's a little holder that fits in...

Seriously, though... wife and I do the lanyard thing with a clear, rigid badge holder. I wear one all day long for work anyway so they don't seem silly to me. I'll wear it under my shirt from time to time. I like to carry NOTHING on the ship. I find the absence of anything whatsoever in my pockets to be a relief.

    Hee hee hee..

  3. I'm traveling solo on the 8-9-14 Getaway. I just booked this a few days ago and a booked a solo cabin. I'm super excited about the cruise, but having reservations about a solo cabin. Do you think it's possible I could get a nicer cabin without spending a fortune? If so, what process would you follow? I booked through an online travel agent and paid in full at the time on booking.

Horseworld, I will be on that cruise. Are you part of the roll call? We are having a meet and greet!!

  4. The first thing that came to mind was this story:

A hurricane caused us to overnight in Port. My friends and I decided to go out dancing at Senor Frogs nearby around midnight. I had on jeans, heels, and a white t shirt. The place was mobbed, the dance floor was packed, the music was great, and I remember dancing for hours on end. No matter my t-shirt was dripping wet from sweaty dancing...one could not tell with the type of material.

Amidst the humidity, the thick smoke, the pulsing dance beats, the strobe lights, was a short guy about 5' 1" dancing center on an almost empty staging with a couple other stragglers off to the side stage. Everyone else was on the dance floor, at the bar, on the bar, or wherever a space was found. My friends had returned to the ship about an hour earlier and I thought to myself, " I'm out of town...I do not know a soul in this joint...I am leaving port in the morning and will never see these locals ever again...it would be so funny if I jumped up on stage and danced with him...as I was about 6'1" in my heels. I also thought it would be a hoot because I was probably 42 and he was probably 22.

So up I went to dance with him and we just about brought the house down. It was post dirty dancing yet pre twerking with him. Within minutes It appeared everyone, and I do mean everyone had all eyes on us. The crowd went wild and I thought we were something special all right. Oh yeah, I could keep up with the young guy and show not only him but everyone else my cool dance moves. They (and he) loved it for sure. Yes, I am sure.

The whole dance show just about killed me so after the hooting, the laughter, the hollering, and the applause, I did not stick around to sign any autographs. I walked a long pier back to the ship thinking how great I was to have entertained the locals. I also figured the number of calories I had just burned. Once inside the stateroom, I caught myself in the mirror...all the upper body sweat had dripped into my jeans both front and back and it looked like I had peed my pants! A lot!

Once I got over the shock, and after checking if I actually had wet myself, I fell asleep laughing out loud while figuring bwahhh, I'll never see them all again!

The next two days at sea heading home all I heard was "I see you on stage..hahaha! "I see you in port dancing...hahaha!" "I see you dancing...hahaha!" "You dance at señor frogs yah...hahahah!" The entire crowd at that bar was 4/5 of the Ship employees and I could not go anywhere without an accented "Ha-ha-ha...aren't you...!" I suddenly had a crazy sister who was also on the ship with me.

The last night onboard I go to the restaurant with my friends for our farewell dinner. Of course by dessert time, my out of town nobody knows me dance show was brought up by some of the waitstaff. Since I was leaving ship in the morning, I answered yes, it was indeed me. They said it was too bad we were dining so late because waitress (insert name) was working an earlier shift there. I asked, "waitress (insert name)...why is it too bad...I do not know waitress (insert name).

The waitstaff replied, "You know! ...Waitress (insert name)! ...the petite little gal you were dancing with the other night!"...

  5. I went on the spirit the Boston to Bermuda, back in 2010. My first cruise. I enjoyed it alot. There were many things to do. Food and drinks were good. We mainly ate the buffets we ate 3 times at specialty restaurants. And they were fantastic. The entertainment was good too. I saw every show. In order to get a lounge chair by the pool you had to get there early and place items there to reserve it otherwise you couldnt find one. I went to the spa once for a massage that was out of this world I got bored on the ship on the way back from bermuda. We spent 4-5 days at sea having just the one port. The comedy shows were very funny too. Overall I enjoyed myself and my daughters who were 11 and 16 did too.
