  1. We spent some precruise time in Athens and through a tour company had a private driver take us on a day trip to Corinth. There were a few other interesting stops enroute. (sorry I don't have the details available) The same company arranged a private guide for the acropolis and the driver agreed to take us to the port the morning we departed. Price was reasonable. In Sorrento we used "Private Tours of Southern Italy" and a driver took 4 of us to Pompeii. There we were met by a private guide. After seeing Pompeii, we drove the coast and stopped at a lovely restaurant for lunch. Next he drove us to Positano where we had time to wander the town. We also spent some time in Sorrento when we got back before returning to the ship. We had a great time and the opportunity to see so much more than any of WS shore excursions. If you have the time in Barcelona, the monastery Montserrat is lovely. Everything else in Barcelona we did on our own.
  2. Thank you for your responses. WS has not posted the excursions for Israel as someone else pointed out. I am curious what they offer from those ports. Redtravel, if we decide to do this cruise I will check into Mickey and her driver. We frequently do private tours and have no problem with that. There are 2 full days in Haifa and one full day in Ashdod which it sounds like you had as well. Highlights for you?
  3. We are looking into the future (18mos out) at a WS cruise from Athens to Rome. The cruise includes ports in Egypt and Israel. We have been to Egypt so aren't really concerned about excursions in those ports. The Israel ports are what interest us the most and we wonder what type of excursions are offered and if the ports will be of interest. We won't be scheduling this for several months but thought I would reach out and see if any of you have an opinion.
  4. Thank you for that review. My husband and I are taking the March 12th cruise from Beijing to Tokyo and will be stopping at the same ports in Japan. Sounds like we are doing several of the same tours you did, should be a great cruise.
  5. My husband and I have done 4 WS cruises in the past 4 years and will be doing another in March. We had absolutely no complaints. Hope we see you on the Belles of the British Isles next September twoboys; we are planning to sign on to that one as well.
  6. NOOOO!!! My husband and I love to play blackjack on these cruises and we have met many people that way. I even won a blackjack tournament. This is disappointing
  7. I plan to call them tomorrow with another question so I will ask. This is one of those cruise/tours that is 14days but not all on ship. Just seems that in the past it was quite easy to just check off a box online.
  8. Since we're talking mundane questions...We are preparing for our 5th WS cruise, this time to Asia. I want to sign up for laundry service but it doesn't show up on the WS site. In the past we just checked a box. Am I missing something?
  9. Sailed to Southern Italy and Croatia in May. We also took the Taormina tour from Catania and loved it. We tacked on the tour to the Baron De Villagrande winery and although expensive we enjoyed it very much. Lipari was on our own, just a quaint little island to wander. Sorrento was probably our favorite stop. We hired a private company and drove to Pompeii where we toured with a private guide. From there we drove to a lovely little place for Lunch, then stopped in Positano and Sorrento. Had some lovely views of the Amalfi coast as well. We could not ave done Pompeii and these stops on a ships tour.
  10. We just returned from a wonderful cruise on the Surf. On our sea day we sat down with a Windstar trip planning assistant (not sure that was his actual title) to discuss future itineraries. We were told that the 2019 schedules are not full because each of the 6 ships will be out of commission for approx. 6wks to do renovations (mostly cosmetic). I was pretty surprised that they would do all of them in the same year but he said that is the plan.
  11. Hello, I think you are on the same cruise as my husband and I. This is our 4th WS cruise. Breakfast and lunch are as casual as you like. Shorts, capris, tees etc. Dinner is a little dressier but definitely not formal. Nice slacks or capris are fine, some women do skirts or dresses. No shorts or tees. Men do not need jackets but dockers or slacks (no jeans) and a collard shirt are fine. Hope that helps. Look forward to meeting everyone! ~ Teresa
