Hyatt Place has an option to check in early ($) but it's based on availability and it didn't work out for us this past May. The charge was credited back to the card I used.

Great location next to the Harbor shopping center...Publix market, shops and restaurants.

    thank you

  2. I'll be cruising in November.   My flight home is not until the next day so I'm looking for a reasonable hotel close to the airport, but that has things close by I can do

I'm hoping I can check in by 10am (willing to pay extra)

would prefer something close to airport if possible

    any recommendations?

  3. if you've never had a cabin steward your in for a treat, they will be your best friend for the cruise. They will do anything (within reason) to make your cruise better.   I always want to take them home with me.

I always tip the eve of dismemberment, in person

I have seen you ask this a couple of times.  I recommend you go on Princess.com and look at the Plus and Premier packages.  They are fully described, plus the terms & conditions.

I've only asked the one time, and it was not clear to me on the web site (I did look) sorry if my question upset you

We did this one January 2020 (our last cruise before covid) and yes, we definitely needed down coats, hats, scarf, and gloves.  We wore thermal underwear (Cuddleduds) which helped a lot on those Antarctic cruising days.  The scenery was so stunning that I wanted to be outside as much as possible and didn't want the cold to stop me.  I still got plenty cold but it was soooo worth it.  I would take a packable down coat since they don't weigh much and can pack down to nothing.

I was on this same cruise (wasn't it the best)  and it got cold. I had a down jacket a scarf and a hat when I was out on deck.

  6. I done Alaska twice in September (both last cruise to Alaska for the year) on one it was HOT (actually 80 in Ketichan       the other time very cold (35)

    don't go for the weather

The one good thing about going that late is merchandize is on sale as they don't want to carry stuff over from one season to the next

  7. I will be in Maui in November and would like to take a private tour that picks up and drops off at the cruise ship pier. (I've been to Maui many times so no set agenda)

    I am traveling solo

anyone know of any reliable companies?

I can relate to this, since I share the thought of our drive-by as having been quite amazing, but I also agree with the expeditionary guests in that, comparatively speaking, it probably really isn't "enough" in terms of what CAN be experienced down there relative to what we got. It worked for us, but if I'd go back again, now having been to SA, I'd want to focus more on Antarctica. I will add that a disadvantage of the drive-by is that you really have so little time in Antarctica, so if the weather is bad while there, you get what you get, whereas with a smaller ship experience you have several days - increasing the chance of getting some really good visibility. I'm pleased, but it does sort of pull at me to go back down there again sometime. With my luck, though, I'd probably get "Drake shake" next time around rather than the "lake"!

If I might ask, what were your ports of call on the Coral?

we started in Buenos Aires and ended in Santiago Chili...........stops in Uruguay, falkland islands, and Usisa

we had about 8 days in antarticia

Princess announced today that the January 2023 world cruise on the Island Princess will go on sale on February 10, 2021.

Does anyone know how long it typically takes before the world cruise “segments” are on sale on the Princess website?

I'm thinking of taking this cruise as a retirement present to myself.      111 days is a very long time.    Any advise comments from people who have done this

We were interested in this cruise and were hoping that they would use the Coral for this World Cruise.  The Island is now our least favorite ship remaining in the Princess Fleet and we will avoid it!.

Why don't you like island.   What changed.

We save our "little goodies" and eat them sparingly when we get home. Ran out a couple of weeks ago. I'll take 2.

I always bring mine home for the grand-kids

they are at the age now when I get home they count them to make sure I didn't take any! (brought 24 home just this January) I'm sure they eaten them all by now (even though my instructions are one a night)

I've only done Antarctica, I haven't done South Georgia or the Falklands.  In general, Lindblad is very good at offering a difficult hike and another option like an easier hike or a zodiac ride.  I can think of one stop we had where the hike was quite steep (they made everyone take walking sticks) and I don't remember if there was a second option, but the other stops with more difficult walks also offered an easier walk.

We had an 86 year old woman on our trip, she managed pretty well!

Let me know if you have any other questions.  I think Antarctica is definitely a worthwhile trip!

    Thank you

where did you go in Antarctica? I did a drive by cruise recently and want to see more

  12. I'm in my 70's and fairly fit- I would like to go to Antarctica in 2022- especially south Georgia and the Falklands

How fit to I need to be- (I could not to kayaking but don't think I'd have a problem getting in and out of a zodiac. I can walk several miles---but not necessarily uphill or rocky

    any suggestions? comments?

I appreciate your feedback!  The Coral seemed to be a bit of a strange bird, what with the buffet forward and the IC next to the casino.  Grew to love the lady as our September cruise went on with the great Wheelhouse Bar entertainment and a wonderful CD.  Looking forward to it.

May I ask what excursions you took, Princess or otherwise?

I love the Coral as well

I did not do many Princess excursions- I find the group size way to big and the tours so so

I booked Volunteer point with Patrick Watts in the Falklands (he may already be full for next year) to be honest- this (other than actual Antarctica )  was a real highlight of the cruise for me

for Montevedio and Ushuaia someone in our roll call planned some trips and I joined them (there was 20 of us I think total)

I did do the punta Arenas I did the Magdelena Island Penguin reserve. After volunteer point it was a let down- but if I hadn't been to volunteer point I would have loved it. (it also didn't help that is was cold and raining that day)

If you have other questions- I would be happy to answer them :  lois 1112 @ aol . com (no spaces)

  14. I was on the Coral Princess

East Falklands (where Stanley is) is not a large place. Tours sell out extremely quickly

Patrick Watts is usually booked 12-18 months prior to the cruise

The picture of the penguins above are from volunteer point and could have been my pictures.

it is a trip you will not forget

My wife and I are booked on the Coral for a Jan 3 Antarctic cruise which features several scenic cruising days in Cape Horn and the Antarctic Peninsula.  In talking with friends who have cruised this area before, wind speed and temperature were part of the discussion and we received a recommendation to try to find a balcony on the ship with as much protection as possible.

We are currently booked on the Dolphin deck in a mini-suite with exposed overhead.  I know that, wherever we are, to expect the possibility of wind and low temps but have a question for those of you that may have experienced both covered and uncovered locations on this itinerary.  Does the lack of overhead cover greatly increase the exposure to wind?  We do understand that temperatures and wind conditions can vary and will be properly dressed for the experience but am considering alternate locations.

We were on this deck last September on a repo cruise and noticed more impact due to sun than wind but September along the west coast is a far cry from Antarctica!  Every other Princess location has been on a balcony that did not have overhead exposure.

Thanks, looking forward to your comments and experiences!

I'm recently off the Coral that went to Antarctica. When the wind is at gale speed I don't think it matters whether your balcony is covered or not. I was on the Carribe deck (partially covered) and didn't not notice much difference between balcony and the uncovered front of the ship on the same deck.

You will love this trip. I've done over 30 cruises with Princess and by far this was my favorite.

Not picking on you at all but I've seen others say this and find it a little 'different.' When you cruise do you normally skip going ashore? We consider ourselves really lucky that we found out the treaty rules in advance.

I've thought about this, I do go ashore and see things, but you can see Antarctica without going ashore. would you tell people who saw glacier national park in Alaska from a ship they didn't see it. If you went to London and saw the London eye but didn't ride on it- would that be the same?
