  1. Yes, service is very gracious on SS and there’s plenty of staff to keep you comfortable. But, I don’t really agree that formal night on SS looks like a gala opening or gala event. I’ve never been to an actual gala that was such a mixed bag look. Sorry. What I have observed on formal night is some people do dress to the nines, more people make an attempt with cocktail attire and many others also make an attempt but they look like they’re attending a business function. All these levels of dress comply with the suggested attire but please don’t feel you have to dress for a gala event.
  2. Uh oh, here we go again. Which ship are you considering, Right now the attire suggestions vary. And BTW, there are plenty of threads on this topic if you use the search function.
  3. Nice place to be stuck. My favorite island on the planet after Bora Bora.
  4. Thanks for the reply. I’m understanding this better now. We’re planning to cancel the final hotel and do our own thing in Barcelona.which will include Virtuoso benefits. What I really don’t like is how SS waited until final payment was made to change to an inferior hotel.
  5. This just happened on the May Spirit F1 cruise. I’m hoping I can unwind the hotel and transfers at least on the backend. It was sneaky how they did it. Once I made final payment yesterday a different Barcelona hotel popped up on the documents . Last week there was no listing for a Barcelona Hotel and before that a perfectly acceptable hotel was listed. The new one is unacceptable and a much lower caliber property.
  6. I hope you do, too because we’re flying to Big Island the same day!
  7. At least it looks like another lovely day. An atmospheric river is coming soon though and hopefully you’ll be out of its impact zone when you sail out. Where to after SF?
  8. Just made final payment on a D2D cruise ending in Barcelona. When we booked the SS Barcelona hotel was not our typical level of lodging that we prefer but was quite acceptable and in a great location. We added on 2 nights. Now the hotel has been changed to a corporate business style hotel that has pretty bad reviews and is located next to the cruise terminal. Not desirable at all. Has anyone had luck maintaining the D2D for the outbound but cancelled or not booked the transportation and hotel on the return? We think we’d rather have our TA book something that has some perks.
  9. I would be interested in the details of your pre and post cruise experience but your review has not yet appeared. We have booked SS D2D for the first time and have never utilized SS hotels before. On an upcoming cruise the SS hotels are not in the category we would normally book and I am now a little bit concerned about SS ability to manage the logistics. Any info about that would be appreciated.
  10. I’ll be on the Monaco F1 cruise in May and am also interested in current conditions on board. Not that I would cancel, we definitely booked for the itinerary on this one, but I prefer adjusting my expectations and then being pleasantly surprised once on board. I’m planning to post my observations here after the cruise and will share details of the F1 experience as well.
  11. You will never see finer sculptures anywhere except possibly The David in Florence. The Bernini sculptures are stunning and there are usually a number of Caravaggio notable paintings as well. I always prefer an actual museum to a palace or mansion.
  12. That’s about 9.5 oz of alcohol if the shots were a Jigger size, That would probably, actually kill me.
  13. The issue is always the slamming door.
  14. Whew! Sounds so exhausting. Such a drag to end a nice trip on a low note.
  15. SS has added quite a few ships in the recent past. With Covid decreasing the available staff pool for hire and the veterans being spread too thinly among the ships just wondering if that’s part of the problem. Seems to be more than a few training issues at work here. Too rapid growth can certainly affect corporate culture.
  16. Appreciate you taking the time to post but there/s something wrong with the format. Did you paste it in? I’m not able to scroll through.
  17. I believe the Tauck Bridges sailings are geared more to include children, not necessarily Gen Z’ers. Scenic and Tauck have options for faster walkers on their excursions and bike, hike options. On board is where the Gen Z’ers will do some eye rolling…I know Tauck can have some very silly, annoying games more geared to nursing homes or pre-school. My last Tauck cruise had a cruise manager who treated everyone as though they had cognitive disabilities. I would suggest scrutiny of the itinerary more than other factors. Are the stops interesting to multi-generations and are there options to explore on your own?
  18. Yes, I guess my question still stands, is the OP comparing paid excursions on Crystal with included excursions on SS? Or apples to apples, included excursions on Regent to excluded excursions on SS.
  19. Would be helpful to know what other line you are comparing SS with.
  20. Same here. Seems a little shady.
  21. Can’t comment except to say you may want to check out the Ports of Call section here on CC. And just wondering, were the previous excursions you mentioned included excursions?
  22. Well, the mussels and frites really are amazing in Belgium. Yum! Interesting that people were left behind. That happened on our Tauck Rhône cruise as well. We were an hour outside of Roussillon when our guide realized they left someone. Luckily because Tauck used 3 busses we were able to consolidate into 2 while 1 went back for the poor woman in Roussillon. Both our Douro and Rhône cruises weren’t nearly as pulled together as our Danube-Main-Rhine cruise. Roz, hope the rest of your cruise goes well.
